This news with Temple moving up to the SEC signifies great times for such a fine university.

Sounds like great momentum as they head into their bowl game.

for a guy that went  0-12 vs. MAC teams with winning records inspite of having the largest salary, largest budget, and some of the best recruiting classes in the MAC I'm sure he'll do just swell in the ACC. They don't call him Big GAme Al for nothing.

I hope Solich calls Hocutt and sets up a 1x1 with Miami, Frank would out coach Al even if he spotted him ACC level talent.

0-12 vs winning MAC teams, 4-27 vs. bowl eligible teams.

I hope Temple enjoyed its brief rise to mediocrity.

It will be interesting to see if the new Temple coach remains the MAC's highest paid.  If Nova accepts and moves up it could spell real trouble for Temple football.

Wow are you way off
Two rape charges this year
Team quit in last two games
Winless against MAC teams with winning records
Can't game day coach
I hate losing him but this is reality

That says it all perimeter! 2 jock sniffers trying to defend the sad situation that is Temple. They are who we thought they are

I will pull for them in their bowl game.

Fake Edit: correction - they are not in a bowl game.

I tried to tell you all about joke-cutt....but you just tore me down each time.

Now he makes this absurd hire to set the program back eons. Golden is going to make them yearn for Larry Coker again.

Kirby Joke-cutt....the gift that keeps giving and giving.

No, some of us just don't care what an ex-employee is doing at his new place of employment.  That said, now that he has hired from within the MAC, it is relevant...and makes no sense.  Not sure why Golden is considered such a hot name.  Especially when they could have gotten Edsel from UConn.  Guess they like the "swagger" as "55" talks about - lol.

Me either. Unless there is 'potential', I don't know what any bigger conference would see in Golden. Then again, it doesn't much matter to me who is coaching Temple, as long as we're beating them every year.

Terrible terrible hire by Kirby.  Does this mean the Cane players will be bouncing around the sidelines annoyingly?

I'm not convinced that Edsel is really on the market, at least not for anything shy of a (good) Big10/11/12 or SEC job. His name keeps coming up, but he doesn't leave. It is of course possible that he's a horrible interview. Its also possible that he realizes (a) he's at a basketball school in a fairly weak football conference and (b) he went 8-4 and is being hailed as a god (average 8-4 at Miami and see how long you last...for the record, Randy  Shannon averaged 7-5.5 over his 4 seasons while Larry Coker averaged 10-2.5 over his 6 seasons, with 6 of his 15 losses coming in the final season).

I don't think its really Golden so much as Miami Florida. Is Miami going to be able to recruit away an ACC or SEC coach? The answer is probably no. They don't sound like they are interested in spending the 5-6 million dollars for a top tier coach. At least with Golden he has head coaching experience at the FBS level. This reminds me kind of Grobe's hire by Wake Forest. He never dominated the MAC but put Ohio on another level in the short time that he was here.

The ceiling on the Temple job is lower than some think. By virtue of playing MAC ball Temple has turned out some 8+ win seasons. Temple in the Big East the past 2 years and 2009-2010 would be 4 win seasons like what was engineered by Bobby Wallace a decade ago with the one glorious upset of Virginia Tech (kind of like the UConn win this year).

Hard to tell what's going on at South Beach. By firing Shannon, it leads one to believe they want better than above-average, as in being a yearly contender in the conference/BCS game/national title. So you'd think they would go after a big fish. So there seems to be a contradiction here. Unless the guys on the 'A' list weren't available or weren't interested.

Not knocking Golden. He brought up Temple from the dregs. But if I were looking at him, I'd be wondering about their late-season fade the last two seasons. Their tank job in Oxford would be especially troubling. OK, I guess I am knocking him.

The winner here:  Penn State.  You get to have one of the apparent top candidates go to another school and test his credentials.

Of course, still roaming the sidelines....

I am stunned.  I figured Golden would make a Grobe type move.  End up getting paid big at a second tier school in a big conference.  Somehwere like Vanderbuilt or Kentucky or Indiana and etc.

Then again, maybe that's exactly what just happened.....

The State of Florida is ripe for recruiting raiding right now.  Any head coach in that state impress you?

And it's not like he brings with him some huge pipeline to southern talent.  Temps' roster has four kids from FL and one from GA.  Otherwise, it's almost exclusively from VA north and PA east.  And I doubt that kids and HS coaches in FL were paying much attention to any of those Temps' games on ESPN.  He'll have to start recruiting right away just to get his name known south of the Mason-Dixon.  They'd've been better off hiring Jim Leavitt, even tho (or maybe because) he's still suing South Florida.

I see you quoted me... am I wrong?
I hate losing Golden but can't understand why the U would hire him.  I agree with the previous poster who said that alot of Temple's success has to do with dropping down to the MAC.

Anyway.. I'm  hoping our D Coordinator takes over and we can advance the program even more.
