Looks to me like you have a problem with the headline, not the article. And guess what? Writers don't write their own headlines.
Way to launch into an attack on someone without even knowing how a newsroom operates.
My criticisms were, a) hold off on the article until more facts shake out and the mourning of a great guy and player Marcellis had a chance to happen; b) the headline; c) the parts about them saying everything was resolved; and d) not asking some hard questions. About half of that's on the reporter, maybe more.
Tim, reporters often drive what's happening with an article, whereas the editor frequently OKs the initial idea, reads it when it's more or less done, fixes a couple of things (perhaps collaboratively with the reporter) and finally says, "Yeah, that works" and puts it on a page. Reporters also frequently suggest headlines and/or help to write them and
de facto help determine the content of the publication.
How many newsrooms have you worked in?
