No MAC teams in the bottom three, although CUSA's Memphis comes in at 118.

Wasn't Miami in the bottom 10 or so last year of this ranking?  If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure the MAC had 3 of the bottom 5, but can't think of who they were...I'd assume EMU and Akron.

And the Cats' first opponent weighs in at 114:

That's two on the schedule in the bottom six.

My, my, seven, count them, 7 opponents in the writer's opinion of the "20 worst" teams in college football--they are only missing Temple!

CMU at 103:

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college/2011/05/c...

BSU at 101:

That means six MAC teams and seven teams on OU's schedule are in the bottom 20.

(Sorry MC, I didn't see your post before I added mine.)

Based upon this writers prediction Ohio should beat these bottom 7 teams, and has all the makings of a 10 win season. How sweet would that be?

Looks like we are going to be ranked above that storied Hoosier football program that some of us would like to see play in Peden.

And Jerry Kill has just about nowhere to go but up:

Terd comes in at 92:

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college/2011/05/c...

That really surprised me.  They were 5-7 last year, mostly due to their D.  They have nine D starters coming back this year, and I expect the offense to catch up some this year.  I think they'll win 7-8 games this year; they might even beat WVU, now that moonshine will be sold in the stadium.  I expect them to beat L'ville, and maybe five or six CUSA games.  To have them this far down doesn't make sense to me.

Marshall should be better (assuming their QB situation gets settled and their DBs learn how to play defense), but they have an absolute murderous front-half of their schedule. A 3-3 start is a best-case scenario; 1-5 or 0-6 is probable. The second half of their schedule is better, but they're probably looking at road losses to Houston and Tulsa.

An understatement.  No mention of Franshaw as a "key loss"; no mention of the injuries to Keller and Brazill or that they are among the returnees; no mention of Hershey and Weller who add to the arsenal.  I guess they don't take strength of schedule into account -- ten of the 12 teams on the schedule are either ranked lower than OU or 1AA.  By the way, they left Ball State off the schedule.  I wasn't expecting the Cats to be much higher (maybe mid-60s) but I thought the author would do more than look at the stat sheet.

Most of these early reports are based on last years performance and to a lesser degree returning players. I basically think most of these writers don't spend a lot of time on mid majors and therefore don't really offer any key insights and facts.
As long as we continue to have marginal play out of the QB position we will not see our ratings improving anytime soon. For as long as Frank has been here we still haven't seen any good play from the QB position, not to mention having 1 be the starters for more than 1 year. We have encountered too many injuries in this position and it's time for us to find that 1 guy who can play for more than 1 year straight and be injury free. We need to find that QB who can be a real leader, like CMU had for 4 years. I don't think Bates is that guy and it's time to see if 1 of the 2 sophmores can be that guy.
I do think we will have another winning season and a good chance for another bowl game. We have developed what I would call a very good infrastructure which has given us good success these last few years. We need to build on this and go from 7-9 wins to 10 wins, conference champions, and bowl winners. When we accomplish this we will be taken more serious as a football team and one that has turned their program around.
