Truly a generational challenge here - up to the Ohio sports department to overcome. As soon as the bowl was announced, I asked my son what to do. He immediately checked to downloaded the app on our smart TV. We watched the official announcement. Per above, Barstool will promote the hell out of it, have interviews with our key players and coaches, and expect Logan Paul (has Barstool relationship) to be involved. They will do their part. The lost eyeballs that would have wandered onto the game on ESPNwhatever on a Friday afternoon will more than be overcome by the Barstool crowd.

It is up to the athletic department to educate folks/alumni on how to access the game - download the app, connect computer via HDMI, watch on their phone (gasp!), etc. No reason for alumni not to know we are on and how to access (every student currently enrolled or who has recently graduated knows how to access the game). If "older" alumni don't know about the game or how to access it - blame the lax athletic department. Prospective recruits will all know about it - easy to link via social media posts.

I don't watch a lot of T.V., and I don't stream ,so forgive me if this may sound uninformed.

If I'm reading correctly, only people intending to watch out game, will find it.

Its not like cable where, if you're not an O.U. fan, but are surfing, you might see the game and and decide to watch ,at least part of the game.

I remember someone from the the Athletic Department, might have been Schaus talking about having a game on T.V. provides 3 hours of free publicity, just by someone seeing the "Attack Cat" when they're surfing through stations.

Am I wrong or can that that can happen with Barstool ?

No APP, no game. Surfing won't get you there without the APP and then you'd have to click on the icon like you do with any other APP.

So, unless you're a fan of O.U. or Wyoming and looking for it, you won't be
watching the game.

Doesn't seem like that's a way to generate "millions of dollars in publicity".

There seems to be a generational disconnect between digital exposure and traditional TV exposure, and the importance of digital engagement with younger demographics.

Gen Z (and even millennials) aren't sitting around flipping through channels on TV looking for something to watch. Most of us (myself included) don't even have cable. This is the generation OU needs to focus on finding and engaging to continue to grow the program and university as a whole.

This generation has already seen more about our bowl game than any of the other non NY6 bowls. This generation will know exactly how to find and watch the game, regardless if they're fans of us or Wyoming. Barstool will keep hyping it far more than ESPN will promote any of the non NY6 bowls.

So yes, a random Gen X or boomer with no affiliation with either school isn't going to stumble on this game on a Friday afternoon like they would any of the ESPN bowls. But those aren't the eyes the athletic department should be focusing on anyway.

I follow Barstool closely and listen to PMT regularly, especially during football season, which is what I would consider their sweet spot. It's great entertainment if you understand the brand.

Others have pointed out, and I agree, that Barstool promotes the s*** out of Maction, however, its mostly sarcastic and for betting purposes and I think the audience understands this.

I also agree that Barstool will continue to promote the s*** out of Maction and will generate more real "views" than ESPN most likely would on social.

My concern is that the views (hype) that social media posts generate are not going to translate to viewership of the actual game. And by streaming only on the Barstool app, they are sacrificing (at least some) traditional views via cable that I know many Bobcat fans are used to.

Its quite possible that they will blow away the viewing numbers from prior years bowl games, we'll have to wait and see.

All that being said, I really hope Portnoy spoils the players with swag. Merch seems to be their thing so I would expect a lot of gear to be given out.

ARIZONA STADIUM CLEAR BAG POLICY

Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl is instituting a new clear bag policy for all of its venues. The policy limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into our venues. The following is a list of bags that will be accepted for entry:

Bags that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″

One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)

Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, after being searched

Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection, including but not limited to oxygen tanks, diabetes kits, allergy pens, etc.

Prohibited bags include but are not limited to:

Purses larger than a clutch

Briefcases

Backpacks

Fanny packs

Diaper bags

Cinch bags

Luggage of any kind

Long golf umbrellas

Cooler bags

Computer bags

Camera bags

Non-approved seat cushions including large traditional seat cushions that have pockets, zippers, compartments, or covers

Any bag larger than the permissible size, unless credentialed personnel carrying such belonging have been thoroughly searched

This is not a restriction on items that have been allowed into our venues; it is only a restriction on the type of container used to carry items. Souvenir cups, unopened water, Kleenex, and personal items will all be permitted into the arena if carried in one bag that meets the criteria listed above.

Personal items may be enclosed in a small clutch bag, approximately the size of a hand. These small bags will be searched.

The no food and beverage policy will remain in effect, however, medically necessary items will be permitted after proper inspection.

I'm of the generation that is quite ignorant of Barstool and its like. In fact, my only knowledge stems from downloading Barstool for a college basketball doubleheader about a month ago involving 2 MAC teams (perhaps giving me an edge on some of my peers). I remember posting somewhere that while listening to the broadcast I thought it was a cross between frat boys hanging out and a sports betting advice show. Not my cup of tea but maybe of interest to younger generations of sports fans.

To anyone who is confused about how to watch, yes, there is an app, but you can also just go to barstool.tv on your phone, laptop, or iPad/tablet and watch it directly from the browser. You don’t have to download anything.

And smart TVs. And if you don't have a smart TV, Amazon Fire sticks are $40 and you can get the Barstool app on those.

The biggest thing for me is it's a free stream. Better than ESPN where you need a some sort of cable or streaming subscription to watch

Our quarterback, Kurtis Rourke, who was MAC player of the Year in spite of missing the last game and a half, is out with a torn ACL. We gave up 40 points per game through the first 6 games under a new defensive system. We were 3-3 by just outscoring people. The defense played better and better as the season went on but Toledo held what was a prolific offense by G5 standards to 7 points. We are a very different team right now than the stats indicate for that reason. Our offense is probably a lot worse that it looks at first glance and our defense a lot better.
