According to a source, former 4-star star Kentucky recruit Alex Smith has committed to Ohio University. Smith is a tight-end from Cincinnati and was listed as 11th best tight-end in the class of 2010 according to rivals.

Not sure whose blog it is, but if it is, I thought I'd give you a correction about one part.  It's mentioned that he will "have to sit out a year due to Football Championship Series transfer rules," however the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) is actually to former D 1-AA.  He actually has to sit out a year due to the Football Bowl Subdivision Rules, (former D1-A).

Sounds like a super addition to the team.  Hope he follows the rules in Athens better than he did in Lexington.

Does anyone know what exactly the issue was that he was disciplined for.
I can't believe it was something major cause Frank would not take this kid if it was.
Question 1: What was the infraction?
It appears that he was not as good initially to challange for PT and consquently was moved down the depth chart.
However, the school redshirted him and just didn't give up on the kid.
The 2nd question is; Did he reach his peak in high school and was over rated by Rivals based on potential?
Question 3; Who was the contact that brought Frank & Alex togther?
Finding out the answers to these 3 questions would be interesting.

Why not? He's done it before.

Question 1. Between him and his coaches. None of my business. Clean slate at Ohio, though, I suspect he starts with strikes against him, however you want to say it, might be probationary.

Question 2. OUr staff would not have reached out if he were not a player.

Question 3. Kentucky coaches Phillips and Minter would easily contact the Ohio staff if they wanted to help a player. Alex's old high school coach at Lakota West has status enough to contact the Ohio staff on Alex's behalf. Sure would be great to establish a LWHS pipeline.

The fact he was catching passes with Bakari Bussey a few years ago probably didn't hurt.

At a minimum he adds depth to the team at the TE position. If you look at the depth chart, Ohio looks thin at TE going into the 2013. I'm glad we are getting this guy, he is the type of guy that used to end up at a place like Marshall on the back of their football reputation.

Im not sure of the reason he was kicked off, but the kid can play.
I also know he struggled in the spring and was listed as #7 on the depth chart. Either way its a HUGE pick up for us.
I also dont know what kind of impact he had but one time OL coach at Ohio- MIke Summers is at UK now.

Old news here but here's a small story of Smith transferring to Ohio University from a Kentucky website.

some interesting comments from kentucky fans at the bottom of the screen. seems like the rumor is that he partied and smoked a little too much weed and that may be why he was kicked off UK.

I am NOT pointing fingers at this particular kid.  Don't know a thing about him.  But as some coach said decades ago, in most cases transferring schools means transferring problems.  I call it the Armon Bassett postulate...

I hope that I'm wrong, but it sounds like the second coming of Michael Hinton to me.

And based on his Twitter content, it's a good thing he's going somewhere else.  Though he did apparently attend 8Fest and PalmerFest.

I'm guessing Frank and company didn't like what they saw and decided not to offer him a scholly.  Multiple mentions of hard partying in his tweets...

I was just going to say give the guy the benefit of the doubt but I guess not.

Thank god we took a pass on this character. I haven't seen so many Kush/Pot/Weed/Smoke references since a certain rapper with 49 you tube views made his way into town from Florida. This kid is an accident waiting to happen.

Perhaps the dude should just give up on football and enjoy his youth and return to school when he's more mature.

Yea, I agree with you guys. Smith seems to be a good talent but his focus is on other things. The Bobcats don't need players like that in our program. I'm happy he's going somewhere else after all.

Here's hoping he gets his priorities straight...I can't imagine Bill Curry would be tolerant of that kind of thing either...

Well....if you look at the "Official" video, he's got over 200!  Bootlegging be damned.
