I hope, and suspect, that we'll keep 2% of the option in our offense.  With the line and receivers we have and some running backs and qb's who want to prove themselves, just that little bit of option can make us even more o-ffensive.

Agreed there, and agreed on needing a QB who can throw the ball better than Bates was able to last Fall.  But a bit of option with Bates in the mix can surely be a deadly weapon.

Bates was 14 of 24 as a sophomore at Iowa State. Sure it was for only 137 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT, but he ran for 167 yards. If he could be even that sucessful passing, he would be quite an overall threat with his running ability. I wonder what the difference is between that and last year when he was 9 of 23 with 1 TD and 3 INTs. Accuracy has always been a struggle, but it seems he's regressed in that area. Is it injury-related?

Not sure if it was injury-related, but that was part of why I worded my post carefully the way I did.  "a QB who can throw the ball better than Bates was able to last Fall" could quite easily be a healthier Bates this Fall.

Arkley said that Bates did not look so good yesterday throwing the ball. Maybe things will improve, but if he had all off-season to improve and heal and he still doesn't look good...I think it's time to just settle in to the wildcat.

Some of you guys are still uncertain about the QB's.

In my opinion, there is no doubt in my mind that Tettleton will be the starting quarterback september 3rd at New Mexico State.

He was great during spring ball and was lighting it up in the 2nd spring scrimmage before the spring game.

I think Frank already has his mind set on who the starter will be and is just waiting to say that its Tettleton.

Bates is just too inaccurate and didn't show up in the opportunities provided to him last year as a passer and I haven't seen enough out of Snyder yet to give him the nod over Tettleton.

The old option offense is a thing of the past, so please give me the guy who can actually throw the ball like a real quarterback should be able to (and not just bubble screens and dump offs).  Time for this offense to evolve a little and be able to move the ball downfield quickly.

Some of us hope for the same thing. But the majority seem to get all giggety over the pistol or whatever offense is devised to hide our (continuous) offensive deficiencies... Hey, if it works against Gardner-Webb...

Here's hoping that Son of Diamond King can throw the ball like the QBs that appear on national TV do. Most likely we'll see the D1AA-pleasing type of passing ability showcased on MAC Access and other fine Web 1.5 platforms...

Thank you for that dose of genuine country ill-informed pessimism.

Why don't you come back.  In about eight weeks.

I think based on Frank's time here, he will make an evaluation at the end of our fall practices, and determine who will start based on how they've practiced.  If their performance isn't up to snuff, they'll be replaced.  Simple.  With the pieces we have, I can truly say I have no idea who will be the one in a month.

One thing I can almost guarantee is that Frank will not go with just one QB. QB injuries can and do happen. He will want the backup to have some experience, should he be needed. That will not just be mop-up experience at the end of games. Look for one QB to start the NMSU game, and another to come in at some point in Q2 for at least a drive or two.  That way the backup will get some experience with the first team offense. Also, the backup will get a chance to make his case why he should be "the man", and we can endlessly debate here who was the better.

Other stuff:  From the pieces on him in the first Relentless video, it looks like Keller has premier, quick reaction.  Snap!  He's on it.

A big problem that we gotta overcome:  blocked kicks.  I believe that Weller was 11-14 on FG's with the three misses being kicks that were blocked.  Totally unacceptable.

What's the latest from camp on the performance of the d-line?  When's the first practice in pads with hitting?

Sounds like the starting QB job is Tettleton's.

Looks like your wish was granted.

Tettleton to start at QB.

Bates to lineup some at WR.

I can't lie. I'm excited about this combination. Tettleton throwing to Brazil, Dunlop, Bates, Bussey, et. al. behind a Veteran line.
