EDITED TO REFLECT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (through August 17):

Wow, No. 17 on August 17! Could it just be coincidence? Doesn't matter. If you are of a mind similar to my own, this is a day of celebration--when one pundit, at least, prognosticates the topple of Ohio State University, The from among the mightiest of college football! You can relish Paul Myerberg's words about the Buckeyes by clicking on Evil Empire below.

Since the post of OUr Bobcats at No. 52, PreSnapRead.com has posted No. 51 to No. 17 in its count-up to No. 1. Here's who has joined the count-up:

In his post about Ohio, New York Times football writer Paul Myerberg suggests there may be reason to toast "double digits" in Athens in 2011.

As the No. 52 team in the PreSnapRead count-up to No. 1, OUr 'Cats are:
  • regarded ahead of the other 12 MAC teams (#56 Toledo, #59 NIU, #71 WMU, #75 Temple, #83 Miami, #98 Ball State, #101 Bowling Green, #108 EMU, #111 Buffalo, #113 Kent, #115 CMU and #119 Akron)
  • regarded ahead of 39 percent (26 of 66) BCS-conference teams
  • regarded among the "Top 12" of non-BCS conference teams (others are Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Central Florida, Hawaii, Houston, Notre Dame, San Diego State, Southern Methodist, TCU and Tulsa.

In 2010, PreSnapRead.com had Ohio at No. 60 in the summer and at No. 56 at season's end.

You can read all the posts at www.presnapread.com.

I think we will have a great year with this team and the schedule. I think this could be our first 10 win season since 1968.  We should atleast contenders to win the east title.  Is this the year we win the MAC and crack the top 25?  I'm sure the national media will snicker at our schedule, but If Craig James is talking about our strength of schedule come November then things will have gone very well for the Bobcats. We can a schedule that allows us to compete in every game.  If we can get lucky on the injury front for once we have a chance to have a special year. O-line is the strength of this team and if they can run the football and take the pressure off the QB and keep our defense rested we should be. fine. Special teams should be outstanding this year.  Gotta love that kicking game.

Sporting News has its ranking out: NIU 34; Temps 53; WMU 65; Toledo 75; OHIO 78; Fiami 80.  No reasoning for any of them; guess they want us to buy the preview edition.

This is pretty neat. Let's see how far up the list we can get.

Ohio cracking the top 50 of any football-related list was a pipe dream just a few years ago. We've come a loooooong way!

Who is No. 52? Tomorrow’s program plays its home games at a stadium that shares its name with a famous Scottish Presbyterian figure from the 17th century.

Phil Steele has the Cats #34 with a picture of Eric Herman in a 3 pt. stance along the margins of his top 40 list as one of the few special players featured. I don't think anything less than top 40 preseason is an honor.

Uncle Wes,
When I think where we were regarded so very few years ago, I'm puffed with pride and joy with anything "north" of No. 80 :)

Ohio has a good team for a while. They've won against Miami 5 straight years.

Uncle Wes,

You have pointed to the single most important date of each football season! And I sing your praises for that!

After all, who says we've never won a "bowl game"? In a way, we've won five in the last five seasons: by defeating Miami (or Fiami if you prefer ... or MiamiSucks).

So that is a great point you have made.

However, I look back to pre-Frank and pre-Jim Grobe and we were horrible; to not be regarded among the bottom third of teams would have been a dream rating ... and a pipe dream.

To be where some regard us now would have been cause for a fatal heart attack (at the very least).

If we can play our way to where you'd hope we can be, I'll buy :)

We've probably only been regarded in the two-thirds of teams perhaps three times in the past 10 years (including the last two years in a row). We still need to make this a more regular occurence.

Totally agree with you, USB!
The progress we are seeing in terms of the caliber of  program is heartening for those of us who believe it is important to the overall college experience.

That was a very good, well-informed preview of the team. It features a lot of details that most writers would not be able to give about the Bobcats. Whether his prediction of how good the team might be is correct or not, he is not make an uneducated guess.

He even got this right.

How does thisublication call Notre Dame a non-BCS School? They have the sweetest deal of the bunch.

BC,
You are correct (in a way). I was referring to teams associated with BCS (Big Conference Scam ... or SHAM) conferences. Notre Dame's invitation is conditional. Nevertheless, your point is well-taken.

BTW, I assume "thisublication" is a conjunction for "this publication" (?)

If that is correct, please realize that my opinions do not necessarily reflect those of BobcatAttack.com administration ... nor those of any reasonably sane person :)l

Give the man a cigar ... or half a cigar, MC.  Paul delayed fulfillment of your prophesy from "tomorrow" to "the day after the day after tomorrow."

Not anymore. They changed the rules in that Notre Dame has to finish in the top 8 of the BCS standings to automatically qualify up from a top 12 ranking. The money ND earns from the BCS was cut to 1.5 million a year (the average for BCS schools) down from 4.5 million. The Irish have gone from a key part of the BCS upon its formation to just another BCS school.

Yeah, and they still have the sweetest deal in that they are guaranteed a spot if they get a certain ranking or a certain win total, with their schedule the coming years they will be pushing the TCU's and Boisie's right out the door.

But point taken on them not being in one of those conferences.

These previews are REALLY good. The fact that he knows about the Kozak incident, who looked good in the spring game, etc. is really impressive. It's nice to see a "national" person who knows what they're talking about, for once.
