Interesting indeed...
“Well, I’ve always said that if I tried this at Ohio State, I’d be pumping gas in my hometown of Vernal, Utah. Indeed, I think that it’d be much more difficult, because of the long history and tradition.”
Told to ABC News in 2003, after he introduced athletic reform at Vanderbilt.
Wanny,
I'm not saying the AD decides what dept receives more research funding than another, nor that they decide how to form a curriculum for a given major. I don't think anyone read it that way either. What I'm saying, is that they quite obviously have FAR too much power at O$U and that they've been provided FAR too much latitude and that issue sits directly on Gee's shoulders.
The man is an ego maniac (something to which anyone associated with Brown University can attest) and the attention the football program brings to O$U only feeds that weakness. The way he and Smith have handled this whole deal from day one is flat out insulting.
His decision making has either been driven by an effort to protect his salary or by pure arrogance. Either way, I personally find it amusing (and ironic) that the A&M hordes embrace him so willingly.
