Hello Bobcat fans!
NMSU Aggie football fan here from the Rivals.com web site, CrimsonIllustrated.com. Just getting things ramped-up for the upcoming football season at my web site
so please stop by and post on my message board(s). I'd appreciate it!
Don't let the preseason college football magazines and rankings fool you about NMSU. Yes, NMSU football doesn't send shivers down the spines of their opponents, but things are looking up in Las Cruces. Coach DeWayne Walker (CDW) is slowly but surely building a solid football program and if not this year, maybe in a year or two more. I know...I know..."Next year", right?
With all the analysis I've done between both teams and taking into account home field advantage for NMSU, this game will pretty much be a toss-up with a slight 1-point favorite going to NMSU.
NMSU will be starting sophomore QB, Andrew Manley. He's a 3-star recruit out of Hawaii and comes to NMSU with some promise of delivering wins. He needs time on the field and he'll get it this season. Rifle arm, decent strength, and decent scrambling ability. I think he was taken back by the speed of Div-I football last season, but I'm sure he's made up for it in the offseason and will be ready to go.
NMSU also has a new O.C. This will be NMSU's third O.C. in three years. Now you know why so many publications have the Aggie ranked so low; new QB, O.C., WR's, Dline and Oline.
CDW went out and brought in some JUCO's on NLI day to help plug some holes on both sides of the ball, namely the linemen, LB's, and DB's. Some impressive WR's are on roster as well (don't be fooled by their short heights). Speedy, play makers, and have "football smarts" on the field. If the Oline can give QB Manley some time to throw, ...WATCH OUT! Big "IF".
As for the RB position, that's kind of tricky. Kenny Turner hopes to have that break-out season he's been promising for two years now, hampered each previous year with knee injuries. He came to NMSU as "damaged goods", but has healed up nicely. In my opinion, he lacks proper fundamentals, but in the open field, he's a play maker.
NMSU and it's fans will be ready to welcome the Bobcats to Aggie Memorial Stadium on 9/3/11. AMS seats 30,000 and even though it won't be a sold out game, I expect about 15,000-20,000 for that game. Stadium parking is a breeze, cheap, and tailgating is decent. Not what I would call SEC tailgating by any means, but it's a good time!
The Aggies will be ready. They are so starved for a winner here in Las Cruces and NMSU that they're ready to explode! We're talking NMSU hasn't been to a bowl game since 1960, the longest streak in Div-I football. Four or five wins in a season is considered a miracle in these parts. Six wins and eligibility for a bowl game, and Aggie fans will be besides themselves! This place is ready to errupt in Aggie football madness! 51 years is too long to keep the lid on Aggie football. And it all starts with the Ohio Bobcats on 9/3/11.
Good luck and here's to a good game with no major injuries on both sides!
Go Aggies!
Go Bobcats!
