Wonder if one of the classy Marshall fans is going to bring his whistle with him again this year to try to whistle plays to a stop when we're on defense, as he did at Ford Field.

It's game week, and I'm fired up as a fan.   If my fairly innocent banter has bothered any of you I apologize.  I will not apologize however for the beating that your team is going to take on Saturday......

Due solely to the fact that you won't have to...

REALLY???

You are bringing up a game from several years back and posting excuses?

I am pretty sure a whistle would effect both teams not just one. Why would anybody do that?

You honestly think there was a MU fan in the stands that left his house with a whistle thinking, "I'll confuse OU's defense by blowing my whistle during the game". Yea that will work

Maybe it was on OU fan whistling to make noise to confuse the offense

I know a lot of Marshall fans who take the same attitude towards WVU fans (although the fires can be more than metaphors). Like when Marshall fans get upset when a store sells WVU merchandise but not Marshall. BOYCOTT!!!! RABBLE!!!!

But hey, that's WVU. Completely different situation, right?

So you're comparing real situations to message board banter?

You need some fresh air my man...

Point is with WVU, I don't mind them coming over and talking smack DURING GAME WEEK.

It's the crap they insist on posting whenever it's offseason that gets under my skin.

We'll be gone after Sunday, and you 5 OU fans can go back to talking about your 3 players in the NFL that hope to scratch the surface of the NFL and your next "big game" against Western Michigan in front of 4,000 fans.

I tried to be nice, but you wouldn't allow it.

I really don't see much problems in a little smack talk; that's where the fun is in rivalries!  It shows we're passionate about this game and our teams.

Unacceptable talk would be for somebody to make a plane crash joke or something like that.  Saying you're going to win, well isn't that what everybody hopes for from their team?

But the number 1 rule of smack talk:  if you lose, you should stay for the serving of crow you are deserving of.

It was 2 years ago, and I was there at the bowl game and heard it on more than one occaision. It was very distracting and bush league

I get it now....it's because Marshall fans bring whistles.....yep that's it.....that's the reason your team has beaten us exactly one time since 1987.....

Even if that was true you do not know who it was. It could have easily been an OU fan.

It would be distracting to both teams not just OU.

Unless it was a higher pitched whistle that only bobcats can hear. LOL

See all this B***S*** posted up here ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ?     Thats why they play the game on the field instead of on message boards, Marshall and their fans think they have this game all wrapped up. Just like they thought they had the CIB Basketball Game against us in Huntington all wrapped up and we all know how that turned out.

Every rational Marshall fan feels that this will be a close game and that it could go either way so please stop acting like we are overlooking this game. That concept is brought up more by your fans than it is by ours.

You are correct in the fact that the game is played on the field. However, if it was not for talking about games then the entire concept of an athletic message board would cease to exist. Taking about a game prior to kickoff is more than half the fun.

Nobody cares about any tourney other than the NCAA and the NIT. It was obvious that our players lacked effort in the crap tournaments and I support them in not caring. You do not gain anything with those tournaments. If you win nobody knows that you did and as a player it only means more weeks of practice. I watched our players walk up and down the court in last years tournament when we had a higher RPI than every #1 seed in the NIT. Trash talk regarding the CBI or CIT is completely ridiculous because winning it means nothing. I think I would care more if the two teams played in a cornhole tournament than the tournaments that decide 101st place.

Well I have posted and mine isn't bs..I really feel our colors are cooler (unless your a hunter the I guess Ohio is fine) but that game showed lack of effort but Ohio did win.. I do not support that the team played like they didn't care because as a fan I want my team to play every game the best they can.. I think it will be close and I think it will be one of the best atmospheres I have been in since last year but I will be cheering on the herd and hoping for that drive home to be a phone one..

Oh ok, I get it now. A store doesn't sell Marshall stuff, and that's just a travesty, because that store, man, THAT'S REAL. REAL REAL. But typing on a computer isn't really REAL. I mean, yeah, my computer is real. And my keyboard is real. And my fingers are real. But the product that comes out of those three combined, so totally not real. And Home Depot selling WVU merchandise is horrible. Absolutely horrible. And disrespectful. And boycottable. Because it's REAL. But anything on the internets, well that's completely innocent and fine and excusable. Because it's not real. Just the internets.

Except....What if you can buy WVU merchandise on the Home Depot website? That's real, because you can really buy it. But it's not real, because it's the internets. But...wait...huh? What just happened? My mind is sufficiently blown. I think I need to make a stop in Meigs County Saturday morning so I can contemplate this real versus non-real thing some more at the game. Maybe I'll join you guys at Chipotle afterwards.

Woooo now leave me and my chipotle out of this...I just want to eat a burrito and enjoy a gas free game, but if I do have gas I want it to be loud and proud so bobcat fans think its thunder...but if you want to join me leave the negativity behind because you will ruin my bliss and I might turn mike tyson-hollyfield on ya.. but seriously why so hostile to me and my burrito cravings.

Please do not go out of your way to try to insult my intelligence. That generally shows that the poster has no better response than to attack something completely off topic.

I would love for us both to list our academic achievements for comparison as I am sure it would be humorous , but that is beyond the topic that we are currently on.

Hate to say it but Carl set himself up for the criticism.  It was certainly a tragic event but quite honestly, there was no need to invoke it on this board under the pretense of asking for civility.

If there is one thing that this board is it's civil.  It's generally fairly moderated and very few posters result to juvenile name calling and the like.

As for Herd fans vs. OU fans, both groups have obnoxious ones.  Beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder.  If I was a betting man though I'd take OU and the points.  I guess we'll know by 10:30 Saturday night.

No hostility intended. I might genuinely join you in a burrito. One thing on which I will agree with any Marshall fan is that Huntington needs a Chipotle. Qdoba is nice, but getting there from downtown is such a hassle. And I was never as high (no pun intended) on Moe's or Faux Moe's as a lot of people.

I hate qdoba they have no flavor.. but join in for a burrito its a tradition sadly because whenever I go to a game by chipotle (mostly bluejacket games in Columbus) I have to stop there and eat mostly to keep the girlfriend from complaining about never doing what she wants to do...women.

I was at the game.  There was no doubt the whistle was coming from amidst the Marshall fans opposite the Ohio side.  The first time it was heard occurred when Ohio was on defense, and it did cause Ohio defenders to hesitate.  Subsequently it was heard - coming from the same location - a few more times.

Did it affect the game's outcome?  Not sure.  What I am sure of is that the loss can be attributed to Ohio's sleepwalking through the first one and a half quarters and falling behind 21-0.

What I find interesting is pondering the mentality of a fan who would bring a whistle to a game, intending to try to disrupt the opponent's defense.
