Wow Bobcat, pretty low blow there.......considering Troy Evans was released and is completely innocent.   My take on all this is simple.....it won't matter who you guys have playing or not playing.   Vinny Curry is going to destroy your QB, and Rakeem Cato is going to embarrass your defense.    I mean really,  you guys have beat us 1 time in something like 20 yrs......

...... Which means we're due.

I'm on the Cato bandwagon, but come on now.  He's a freshman and he's due to struggle.  I hope not.  But he won't embarrass that defense.  They are very good.  Their problem is that we will be forcing int's and fumbles all game long.  The 7-8 sacks we will get will also help.  These will give Cato a short field all day.  He throws 4 TD's to 2 picks....but he won't embarras them until next year in our house.

Arkley tweeted a Solich comment that Keller is "nearly 100%" so it sounds like he'll be ready to go.

Lets hope.  It's always more fun to play against the best players.  I really ought to get back to work.  Yes, OU fans, I have a job...unlike the jerks who wear blue and piss yeller on Saturdays.

First off I never mentioned Troy's name...I'm talking about the list that earned the Herd the nickname "3 yards and a cloud of misdemeanors"

Out of respect for those kids I won't post names but let's be honest...The list is long and filled with starters names (past and present).

I'm not sure exactly what difference past records makes when discussing Saturday's games but one thing's for sure.  Herd Nation better get used to competing on an even playing field.  The wins you racked up against Ohio (or anyone for that matter) while under the "watchful" eye of Bob Pruett are a thing of the past.  Your program was an abomination.  You finally reached out to a WVU product to help you get control and I applaud that.  There's a reason though, that Coach Holliday could barely field enough players to put on a Spring Camp.  I have no doubt he'll get it cleaned up, but the end result is that you're going to have to play football with actual student athletes moving forward.

I have no doubt Curry's presence will be known but he's only 1 player and Cato might have a hard time "embarrassing" our defense from the ground.

See you Saturday assuming your team isn't using the same travel agent they did when they missed the CUSA Media Day...

Better special teams?  Not so fast!!!  Whitehead punted 8 times last week, pinning 5 of them inside the 7 yard line, two on the goal line, leading to a safety on the next play.  Even with the short field punting, he averaged 43.

Sounds like we both have excellent punters. One can make a case for Hershey being the best in the nation, but your guy sounds like he's right there with him. We also have a top-notch kicker.

I am very disappointed at the level of game week discussion on both sides.  Really?  Calling Ohio a "terrible program" (not true) and criticizing the city of Athens (uh...really?) from Marshall fans and calling Marshall "three yards and a cloud of misdemeanors" (just weak) and saying we were not playing with student athletes all of those years were were owning the MAC (stupid).  Is this the best the game week discussions are going to get?  This is worse than WVU week.

The reality is that Marshall owned the MAC during a time when Ohio was pretty far down.  Marshall was knocked to the cellar after being put on probation for the scandal involving players making too much money for minimum wage type work.  We made a bad coaching hire.  In the meantime, Ohio became much better after making a great coaching hire, and is now the lead program in the MAC East.  Marshall is coming out of the probation cloud slowly and has made what he hope is a good coaching hire.  We have played twice since the MAC days with Marshall winning each game close.  Athens is a smaller (but cleaner and safer) city than Huntington.  Ohio does not have the fan base of Marshall (especially with regard to traveling), but Marshall does not exactly pack our stadium and is in the same boat in terms of fighting for fans in a state dominated by another program.  We both have rising programs with the potential to greatly increase our fan bases.

All of that out of the way - we have 2 teams that seem evenly matched this season.  Our strengths play against each other on both sides of the ball.  We are going to meet in a big game on a day where the weather is predicted to be good and settle the "who is better" debate in a beautiful setting for college football.  I think the "let's talk football" ship has sailed on this board for the week.  So...good luck everyone.  I look forward to tailgating and the game in Athens (very nice city).  Go Herd!

I think I speak for virtually everyone on this board in saying we'd love and prefer to talk football.  I agree with your evenly matched statement -- particularly last year's game was an exceptionally close game and emotional rollercoaster on both sides, and I expect nothing less on Saturday.

You're right and I'll apologize for that comment.  I have very little tolerance for obnoxious, entitled sidewalk alumni (due mostly to living too near to Columbus) but that doesn't excuse the comment...

Here's to a truly great game about to take place in Athens...

Glad to see this thread has gotten back on track.  Some of the other threads seem to have been possessed by MuttonHead's ghost.

Marshall is probably the third or fourth best team on OU's schedule (Fiami, Temps and Rutgers are the other three possibles).  OU is probably the fifth or sixth best team on Marshall's (WVU, Tech, UCF, Tulsa and maybe ECU, if they get their 2nd half together; L'ville sucks -- didn't score in the last three quarters vs. Austin Peay and lost to FIU at home -- and may be down there with Memphis).  Two plays separated them in the last two games: Brazill missed McCrae by inches on the option pass in Detroit; and the two-pointer in Huntington last year.  Four of the last five games have been decided by four points or less.  OU's offense is about even with Marshall's D; Marshall's offense is about even with OU's D.  It'll come down to special teams and turnovers.  First team to 30 wins.

First off, Marshall2004, THANK YOU!

I honestly don't really care about the other threads, go complain about whatever you want over there, but this one is the Game Thread, so let's keep stick to Game related posts.

Everything that you said in your post, 2004, was spot on.  I wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I argued that Marshall wasn't a dominant force while they were members of the MAC.  Also the majority of those years, Ohio was a very weak football team.  You should've beaten us year in and year out, and you did.  However a lot has changed since you went to C-USA.  We have brought in a veteran coach who has stabilized our program and taken it to new heights.  Each year that Solich has coached, the quality of players brought into the program has improved.  I will admit, I haven't really followed Marshall extensively since they left the MAC, but it's obvious that your team hasn't had the same success that they had while MAC members.  As a result you cleaned house, and brought in Doc Holliday who has the job of rebuilding a once proud program, that has obviously overcome a lot of adversity in the past.  Which leads us into Saturday...

Ohio is coming into the game 2-0, by beating 2 teams that they should have beaten easily, which they did.  Marshall is entering 1-1, losing to a very good WVU as many expected, and defeating a tough conference opponent in USM.  Some Marshall fans are arguing that you will defeat us handily as you have in the past.  I will make the argument against that.  Since Solich came in, these two programs have met twice, with Marshall getting the upper hand 21-17, and 24-23 following a missed 2 point conversion which would've won the game.  Based on these two scores, I hardly think it will be a blow out.  Both teams have relatively young QB's in Cato and Tettleton (Rr and R-SO), who have a combined 4 collegiate starts between them.  With young starters, limiting turnovers is key, and could be the determining factor.

I can't wait for Saturday!  As I'm sure you are aware the Ohio Football community lost a great friend with the passing of Marcellis Williamson this past summer.  There will be a brief memorial for him pre-game and I'm sure that Marshall fans and players will be extremely respectful during this.  Following that I expect a great hard fought game between 2 schools.  I hope that you guys enjoy your time in Athens, however I am hoping that it ends on a sour note.  Go CATS!

Best post from the Herd alum/fanbase of all the load of smack crap from either side! I like building the "Hype"/"Smack" - but at the end of the day - Marshall is in the shadow of WVU, OU is in the shadow of OSU - and the better we both become = the better for the "underdogs" Everywhere! I'm looking forward to a Full House Peden - and Great & Exciting Football to the last Second of the Game - Go Cats!

I, for one, hope the series continues indefinitely.  MU/OU is one of my favorite games every year.  Love going to Athens and it's good scheduling for both programs.  Here's hoping they just pummel the hell out of each other, strengthening both programs to the point that OUS/WVU eventually fall.  Since OSU is so much more blatantly a "professional" team, I think WVU falls first (next year).   But you never know.

I am glad we are winning, but these uniforms are so high school.  Our colors are not black and keeping the white helmets is like you can't quite afford to put the entire package together.  The numbers look oversized, but yet you can't see them on TV / ESPN3.  With no names on the Jersey's and the website not offering a numerical roster, it is hard to figure out who many of the players are.
