LOL just saw this at the end of SI's Steward Mandel's mailbag column:

Stewart, I hope this e-mail finds you well. I do not have a question for you per se. Rather, I have a prediction which I want on the record. This Saturday, in front of at least 3,000 home fans, Temple University will beat Joe Pa's Penn State team. When it happens, I'd appreciate it if you posted this e-mail in your column as proof that at least one Temple alum knew this would happen.
-- Chris Sorsi, Medford, N.J.

Why wait if it's as inevitable as you say? You're on the record. May Steve Addazio and Bernard Pierce be with you.

The 3,000 home fans is the funniest part...Penn State's gonna own that rent-a-stadium...

I won't be shocked by an upset. A healthy Bernard Pierce makes that a different team. They are better and Penn State may be worse than last year, and it was close in happy valley. Temple can throw it better this year as well. This is a very very dangerous game for the Blue and White.

They are a much better team with a healthy Bernard Pierce, but 35 Pierce carries latter this will be a case of winning the battle to lose the war: I hope he stays healthy (not gonna lie, I'd prefer he not take the field at Peden this year, but I'd rather it be because he's interviewing to be a Rhodes scholar than because he's hurt) but he tends to get dinged up over the course of a season. As a result, his early season preformance outweighs his work down the stretch. Running into the teeth of Penn State's defense (even weaker than past year's squads) is going to take a toll in terms of health and fatigue.

Yes, just like Akron was on ESPN in week 1.

Temple's Mike Gerardi was 7 of 17 last week for 93 yards against Akron. No reason for Penn State not to sell out against the run. Gerardi will have to be better.

No, because UConn would not have won the MAC last year.

These guys from Philly.  Must be something in the liquor.  Yes, we probably won't get 30,000+ in Peden because the fire marshals probably won't allow it.  But check the demographics, guys.  You're in one of the ten largest cities in the US and got only 30,000 or so to come out and see your game with another school from the same city.  Face the fact, in a market your size, you had a stadium that was maybe half full.  And this week, more people will be wearing blue than red in that stadium.  OU is in one of the most rural and most impoverished areas in the country, and still drew 23,000 green-clad fans in a 25,000-seat stadium (92%) for a game against a 1AA school from NC, about 400 miles away.  We'll top that this week against the Terd, although too many of those will be wearing the wrong shade of green.

And so you're on ESPN.  B-F-D.  They've been here lots of times, and not because of the opposition.  It it weren't Joe Pa's team, you'd likely be back on ESPN3.  (Was the Nova game on a real ESPN channel or the Internet-only service? All the schedules I've seen show that it was Internet-only.)

I wish you guys from Philly would take your attitude to Uranus.  You once were in a big-time basketball league that wants to be a big-time football league (but still hasn't made it), and got kicked out of there.  We know you have plans beyond the MAC, but unless you can beat a MAC team that has a winning record, that won't happen.  And CUSA isn't that much better; see how many you get for East Carolina, Southern Mississippi or Rice.  So accept your fate and don't be such schmucks.

Temple fans' constant need for validation is cute. They're like a girl with low self esteem- I'm not fan am I? I'm prettier than her right? right?!

poor little temple.

Penn state is looking just horrible. They are going to have a hard year in the big ten. Im surprised Temple has not scored more.

We can make fun of the Temple fans all we want, but their defense looks stout. Pretty impressive today.

Temple offense, not impressed.

Penn State special teams, what are you doing?

Temple has done just enough thus far. The real story of the game though is the fact that Penn State has just totally shot themselves in the foot all day. If Temple comes out of this it will be more to the credit of Penn State overlooking Temple than anything Temple really did.

I thought we would see a psyched up Penn State, ready to lay a beating on a much smaller opponent. Apparently Penn State is still in shell shock mode from their Alabama game.
