The line opened with Temple being 5 point favorites, but now it's up to 7.5.  I know Temple blew out Maryland, but I think Toledo is a darn good team as well.  I don't see how they don't keep it within 7, or win outright.    Where's my bookie?

Oh wait, I see Toledo has a bunch of players out for the game including their running back.  Maybe I won't call the bookie after all.

The risk you run playing a schedule that's too big for your depth...Now they're in danger of losing ownership of their own destiny right out of the gate...

Still...GO ROCKETS!

i got an email from Temple Athletics (I will say, even though I am a Bobcat fan, I do occasionally go to a Temple basketball game when i'm home for the holidays. Judge me as you want.)  And they're really trying to get a big crowd for this game.

Temple Employees, anyone who wears pink, people who have a ticket for the Eagles game tomorrow or a Phillies play off ticket, and people wearing a pink shirt can buy tickets for $5.

It's pretty interesting they're trying to get the Eagles and Phillies fans to come out to the game.  But hey, Philly is a pro sport city.

Honestly, who do you guys think will win this game? Is this the first time Temple beats a good MAC team or will Toledo finally pick up a much deserved quality win?

I'm going to go with Toledo on this one. Why? First, they are DESPERATE for a win and this would give them an opportunity to hit the reset button on their season. Second, like us last week, Temple is coming off a huge win and there will be some amount of let-down for this one.

I go with Toledo, too, for many of the reasons specified.  I also think they'll pay the officials a stipend a little more on par with the national norm this week!   (JSF, that's a joke.)

Temple wins and they still don't beat a MAC team with a winning record when played! Toledo, 1-4 after Saturday.

btw, I am accepting resumes for the New and Improved Big East. I suspect our conference will be taking a serious look around qualified Indy, MAC and C-USA teams. Get your curriculum vitae together Ohio, dreams could come true

Or pinkeye?

The Phils and Eagles fans might come to the game, but they wouldn't know who to cheer for.  Same problem with Nova and St. Joe.  If a team doesn't start with "Philadelphia," they don't give a tinker's damn.

Hey, Pitno, is our friend, too  He once signed a contract to have the UK basketball team play a game in Athens because he was so impressed with our basketball program.  The man's got class.  Unfortunately, by the time the Wildcats showed up in Athens, he was no longer the coach.  Perhaps, he wants OHIO in the BE for all sports and Temple for sports board posting only!

Well, JSF, I think you are taking me "out of context."  I didn't mean to say that he has "class" in all that he has said and done in his professional and personal life.  I was being sarcastic in saying that this one act makes him a "class" act in the context of Temple.  It's all in the context, man.  You don't seem to be on the same wavelength as my humor on some occasions. Hey, I know I'm strange . .  . so you are not alone in this predicament.

I think that maybe we don't receive the necessary context to get the joke. I am guilty of that myself on occasion.

Ok MH55, I'm kind of intrigued. I really do think that Temple is Big East bound and rightfully so. You guys are definitely moving in the right direction, and obviously have facilities (playing at Lincoln) to do so. I am just wondering possibly what other teams from the MAC possibly moving up? Or perhaps even better, who would you like to see possibly there. Unfortunately, I don't see Ohio leaving the MAC, as much as some of the fanbase (myself included) would like to see. I think the concept for the MAC is a great one, however certain schools should not be in it, due to various reasons and water down the conference as a whole.

I think it's more of a case of the Big East moving in the "right" direction.

The Big East is imploding.. not sure if I want to be a member.

I still like the idea of Memphis and  Cincy joining the MAC

I would be all for UC and Memphis joining, it would increase basketball competition big time. Especially if it involves dropping some teams. Unfortunately, I think theres a better chance of Ohio joining the SEC. It will be interesting to see how all of the conferences shake out though.

If the Big East does end up imploding (which I think we'll see within the next couple years) I still like the idea of a completely new conference involving the following:

Ohio
Fiami
Temple
Marshall
Cincinnati
Memphis
Rutgers
U Mass
Louisville
WVU

That would be a great 10 team league already.  It may look slightly crazy now, but where will some of these teams go if the BE does implode?  I can't really see the ACC adding anymore of the current BE teams if they expand further.  I would think they might go after a USF or someone of that nature.  Rutgers is pretty much the only BE school I could see the B10 going after.  Maybe take these teams and try to go after someone like a Navy, or retain two other MAC teams (not entirely sure who that'd be).

To stay on topic...I get that Temple's win over Maryland was impressive, but is Maryland really any good this year?  By no means am I trying to say Syracuse and OSU are great this year, but Toledo could easily be 3-1 with two wins over BCS schools.  Should definitely be a good game, but I think Toledo takes this one.

LOVE that conference suggestion with the exception of WVU...I can't see a scenerio where they don't end up in one of the "Big 4"...They're just too solid in regards to finances, following and facilities not to make that cut...Maybe replace them with Toledo?  Same colors...No one would know the difference right?

There you go...could set up West/East divisions of:

West:
Cincinnati
Louisville
Memphis
Miami
Toledo

East:
Rutgers
Temple
Ohio
Marshall
U Mass

West would be a much stronger division in basketball, but with only 10 teams, you might not have to even worry about divisions for basketball.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ohio, Buffalo or Toledo invited to the Big East but frankly, I dont see that happening. If the BE needs to go beyond two teams more than Navy and Air Force, I suspect it will implode completely.

You will never hear any argument from me, Temple deserved to be kicked out of the BE. I feel we also warrant another chance now, given the changes. Villanova helped block Temple from becoming a BE Basketball member when we petitioned for all sports in the mid 90's  and also has a say in our admission this time around. In our favor is our readiness, our Lincoln Financial Field contract and Nova's fumbling their own FBS plans and no stadium to play a BE Schedule
