Though I'm getting static from my wife, I'm going to try to be there. For the benefit of SBH and bobcatsquared, I have some paternal cousins who live in the San Diego area, and I can work in a little bit of a family reunion, if I can pull this off. Then I can make a side trip up to San Luis Obispo to visit my daughter.
The PCH is a trip anyone should take at least once in their lifetime.

No kin south of the border? Tijuana? Ensanada?
Well, since I can tell that you really want to know: the cousins in San Diego are first cousins, my father's sister's kids. However, I recently found in Athens a 5th cousin, 3 times removed who is half Mexican, but we relate on his maternal, non-Mexican side. That's as close to a Mexican relative as I've found.

Móðir mín var frá Hóli í Dalasýslu í Hörtþúfa, sem er norður af Reykjavík; Móðurafi minn var frá Másseli, cotterbýli við hliðina á Sleðbrjóti í Jökulsárhéraði í Nordur Mölasysla, sem er austan megin í eynni. Ég hef heimsótt Hól, þar sem amma fór með foreldrum sínum árið 1884, þegar hún var um fimm ára gömul. Þau fluttu til Gimli, norður af Winnipeg.

Þriðji frændi minn, Kristinn Jónsson, fór með okkur í heimsókn á Hól. Við kynntumst honum fyrst þegar dóttir okkar, Jenny, varð hluti af Snorranáminu, sem er fyrir krakka á háskólaaldri af íslenskum uppruna.

Ég hef ekki haft tækifæri til að heimsækja svæðið sem afi minn kom frá. Móðir mín talaði reiprennandi íslensku. Ég kann nokkur orð og orðasambönd, en ég held að Google translate sé mikil hjálp til að bæta við litla skilning minn á móðurmálinu.

Til að koma þessu aftur í íþróttina þá býst ég við að þú vitir að Ísland dró það sem sumir kalla mesta uppnám í fótboltasögunni þegar þeir sigruðu England á Evrópuleikunum árið 2016.

Einnig, þó að þetta sé fótboltavettvangurinn, þá ætti ég að nefna að Íslendingur -- Thelma Dís Agustsdottir -- er enn á lista kvenna í körfuknattleik í ár.

Pretty much every conference schedule is out, but not the MAC!

Watch the MAC leave BG and Ohio idle in Week 4 but have them play each other on a November weeknight. Like Ohio, BG does not have a non conference game slated for 9/23.

Send the 110 too, letting each group practice the final week out in California. Heck by announcing it you might even get a portal guy that is on the fence.
O.U. sent only 96 out of 240 members of the 110 to the Arizona Bowl.
They flew out on December 28 and back on December 31.
I'd bet the farm that the university only paid for a few to show up. That's often been the case in the past. Sad.

Because traditionally most schools not named OHIO like to pick a weak opponent for Homecoming. Returning alumni like to see Ws.

If it’s CMU again, or another nemesis, I’ll doubt that, unless we really are stupid, which is a distinct possibility, since we sometimes schedule ESPN+ games, where presumably we call the shots, at the same time as a big O$U game.

my personal experience is there is considerable dialogue between the schools and conference. so it’s not like we get an email one day unveiling the schedule. we have three options that day (western is not that day. they will be at miss state). all three offer a good storyline. central is a tough history (but not played them much recently) let’s overcome it. kent is the revenge game and miami is miami. that game is generally not sought for homecoming. too good of a gate to use up at homecoming. so guessing central or kent. either works. i’m just pleased that ohio is no longer the sought out homecoming game for opponents like we were back in my days on campus.

A band parent told me that OU paid for all upper class band members to attend. Freshmen & sophomores could go if they paid their own way.

The point is that the University shared information they had about when Homecoming is. People want to make plans, especially if they have any hope regarding getting a hotel that weekend. Opponents probably won't be announced until Christmas. If they held this info waiting for an opponent, the other side would complain about that.

If all this is true than it's the MAC that is stupid beyond words. So, we pick a date without knowning the opponent and then the MAC gets to shaft us by giving us CMU or whoever again for Homecoming? Does any other conference work like this? Where is LeaveMACnow when we need him? ;-)
