What ever happened to good old fashioned yelling?

The best sound those things made all night was at the end of the game when people started popping them. The rest of these abominations need to die the same quick, but painful death. and never return!

There is only one place these things make sense - at a basketball game, behind opposing team basket, as irritating distraction from the clapping them en masse (not "thunder" - what "thunder"?) when foul shooting. Where did the "thunder" part of the name come from anyway?????

I am in favor of the sticks as they make more noise than the few students who would yell. Untill the students remain in the stadium we need the sticks

What happened to yelling? It has to be there before you ask where it went. I love the thunder sticks this was loudest game I can recall in a long while. I am all for yelling thunderstix and jumping to your feet on big downs, kickoffs when ever crowd support is needed.

I'm rewatching the game on ESPN3 with headphones on and the game day sounds have been really good. Lots of cheering to go with the thundersticks. When we ran the reverse to Bates and he stops to throw it to a wide open Tettleton the crowd sees whats about to happen and goes absolutely insane. Sure, we can complain about the students leaving after half time but they really brought it in the first half. Our game was the only game where the ESPN crew could come back from commercials with wide establishing shots. The field level long shots with the students in the background looked incredible.

If you are going to question thundersticks, do it after a game where the students aren't loud.  The O Zone was straight ROWDY for the Temple game.  If you're doubting this, reference any of the pictures available on Burke's twitter feed.

I agree with DFC.  There is absolutely no reason to give our fans anything to make noise with.  They already do such a great job yelling, especially on 3rd down.

Bush league.

Then again, we are in the MAC.

Hmmm. Well, I guess when in Rome (or Athens)...

...so those orange plastic tubes filled with air that thousands of people were slamming together at T.Boone Pickens stadium on ESPN2 2 hours ago were an illusion? Or #3 Oklahoma State is bush league?

most of the people with the sticks left after halftime. Too bad we had 4 fans kicked out in section 104 for being loud and rowdy. They were fine just had a few blue hairs who were not used to folks actually cheering in front of them.

I saw the cops come over and talk to some people (surprisingly, not me) - what was that about? It couldn't have just been "loud and rowdy".

Or the 102,000 Alabama fans with their pompom things are bush league...wow some of the things that get posted on this site SMH. The thundersticks look and sound GREAT and the uniform changes including the helmet are phenomenal. Recruits and even players at Big 10,SEC schools have commented on facebook and twitter about how GREAT OHIO looks now. You guys should get behind the program and stopyerbutchin ,Ohio is being talked about as a very good up and coming program with talks being made of stadium upgrades, beer sales at Peden even a conference upgrade... the next few seasons are crucial.

Pompoms are not artificial noisemakers, and neither are rally towels/homer hankies/terrible towels. thundersticks make an annoying sound. If people are talking about us, that's great, but I'm sure they're talking about the student support we received, and the fact that we have performed well on National TV. Do you really think they're saying "Wow, look at Ohio, they have thundersticks! They're totally an up and coming program!"?

Edit/addition: and while we're at it... Toledo fans need to get rid of the freaking cowbells. Horrible.

the thunderstix help show how excited the fans are as the video board and cheerleaders say MAKE SOME NOISE. I can't understand why you want to come to game just to sit there and complain ohh the thunderstix are too loud ohh the cowbells are annoying sit down in front of me. Heaven forbid you show how much you love the team or have fun. I REFUSE TO SIT DOWN ON EVERYPLAY I LOVE IT WHEN THE FANS GET ROWDY. If you don't like it too bad. What  the thunderstix say on tv is these fans or into the game and haveing fun. If you want to sit in the quiet then get you some ear plugs and earphones because the Ohio fans are going to get LOUD.

You are completely (COMPLETELY!) missing the point. I'm as loud as they come and I stand most of the game. I'd rather hear the sound of thousands of VOICES, and not that annoying boing sound that those balloons make.

Oh my God, King...

Sorry if my "butchin" is impeding the program. But I don't think it is. I butched alot about how a majority of our fan base fully supported some jerk in our mascot costume assaulting another team's mascot. Doesn't seem to have impeded the program much. Though I guess it's possible the coaches could have been discussing it on the sidelines during the Ball State loss.

The Thundersticks are bush league. Doesn't matter if it's paupers or kings using them. Even if either (or both) President Bushes used them in the World Series, they'd still be bush league with a lower-case b.

Thundersticks are basically in the same neighborhood (or hollow, if one prefers) as the guy from Marshall who did the whistling thing at the Pizza Bowl (or whatever bowl it was). While his efforts at "getting behind his program" were more disruptive and and contradictory to the spirit of the game, at least he did it (reportedly) using his own God given talents and not using some inflatable imported plastic novelties.

As the preacher man once said, "leave those inflatable, imported plastic novelties at the marital aids store."

I get the point you want everyone and everything to be just the way you want it to be. Well guess what most people love them. You can complain all you want but thunderstix and such items can help make the game fun for fans and get the crowd loud and rowdy. The game was louder than any this year and you could clearly see how into it most fans were.

Thunderstix say "our fans can't make enough noise on their own without using some sort of crowd performance enhancer. Maybe it's because they are not really all that rowdy and need special assistance. Kind of sad when you think of it."

You know what told me that are fans of into the game and having a good time? The guy in the panda suit.

What is more bush league fans sitting being quiet or fans makeing noise showing how excited they are? I am guessing you would rather the seats be empty like most of the other MAC games on tv than give the fans something to make noise and have fun with. Somebody get a hold of marketing tell them no more promotions no changeing uniforms. A few people are annoyed so let us stop the rest of the fans from haveing fun. I THINK NOT get over yours join in have fun or whine about I will not be able to hear you over my new thunderstix with cowbells on them.

I like thurnderstcks because they remind me of the first time I used them, which was at the Pitt game.  I like the intensity of the sound that permeates the stadium when you've got thousands of people using them at the correct time -- like on defensive third downs.  It's not that I'm not also a yeller.  I frequently come home with a hoarse voice because I've yelled so much.  For the Temple game I was doubly glad to have the thundersticks because I was just getting over a cold and my championship caliber yelling ability was not up to usual standards, so the thundersticks allowed me to participate where I otherwise might have had to be unusually subdued.  I stood up on every third down and made as much noise as I could with them until the snap.  I think early in the game we disrupted several of their plays with our thunderstick noise.

Uh... did anyone in this thread make a comment about the uniforms? Or the blackout T-shirts?

My problem is with Thundersticks. Please don't try to lump in everything together to help bolster your argument.

For the record:

I like the black unis. No, not traditional, but they looked cool.

I like the blackout T-shirts. I really was proud of how the blackout looked. I said to myself, "wow, they actually pulled it off. This school's fan base has made alot of great progress. Thanks to Solich, McDavis, Russ, Rob, the marketing team, TT... wait, what are those things in their hands. Uh oh..."

I don't like Thundersticks (read previous posts).
