Wow, now that's just a bizarre ranking of helmets, but it does show that there is a wide disagreement. If you reversed the order, I'd have been closer to agreeing with it.

L.C.: How would the Nebraska fans react to a more modern "N" on the helmet like the actual logo?

Going to school during the paw print years, I love the PAW. I would rather have a paw ripped off and changed slightly from another school by a local artist, then the clip art attack cat we had to buy and every high school whos mascot is bobcat or wildcat also uses.  most schools have several logos for their sports teams and it gets boring to see the attack cat on everything put out for OHIO

Maybe I've missed it but I haven't seen any other school on any level that uses the attack logo that Ohio uses. I tried to do a google search to find one and all of the bobat logos I found were quite different.

Now I'm not saying I dislike it, but the paw print, on the other hand, can be seen on college and high school helmets all over the place. Clemsen's logo is the most well known. But just in my area, the Kenton Wildcats, Ada Bulldogs, Seneca East Tigers, Gibsonburg Golden Bears, Ottawa Hills Green Bears and Galion Tigers all use paw print logos at least some of the time. There probably are many other schools in the area with animal names that do, but those are the ones I know for sure do. The pawprint, while its simplicity is cool, most certainly is generic.

And for what it's worth, you can still buy officially-licensed items with the pawprint logo, so  it's not completely phased out. Here's one example: https://cbsohiou.3dcartstores.com/Oxford-Rayon-Tee-Block-Ohio-over-Paw-14121_p_74-1956.html

You missed one. The Cambridge High School Bobcats use the attack cat logo in their blue/white/black color scheme.

Granted that website is a little old, but I'm still pretty sure they use that logo and have or a while.

The Paw Print as a secondary logo for OHIO athletics is no more generic than Miami's block M, or Marshall's block M, or Missouri's block M, or Michigan's block M, or...

It still is, I just checked the schools main website.  Funny how I never noticed that and I'm about half an hour from Cambridge....

Pete:

Considering you are "The Iceman", I was hoping for the Ohio Paw in the form of ice sculpture.

For the record, that shirt is absolutely 100% licensed without any doubt or question.

(Personally, I'm not a fan of the all-black look. But obviously my opinion doesn't matter.)

Well, maybe they just don't follow their own rules then, which isn't necessarily surprising.

Definitely never have seen that one, but the attack cat logo looks pretty cool in blue, too.

Still, I have to think the paw print is far more used across the state.

Case in point: logo on the football field versus the bball court. Branding inconsistency drives me nuts because it's just not that hard to get it right.

The Waterford Wildcats also use the Attack Cat logo. They are a school that is 45 min away from Athens.

High schools have borrowed college and pro logos since the beginning of time. Why is this an issue?

The Dispatch ran an article during the early season of HS football pointing out the "borrowed" logos, nicknames and fight songs.  Very entertaining reading.  There aren't a lot of truly original HS mascots out there.

Precisely!  Like insisting on using the moniker "OU" instead of using the Athletic's Departments expressed preference of "Ohio". (looks in Elton Alexander's and many poster's direction)

I agree with SBH about consistency with branding.  The main difference/consideration may be the green field for football as a background and blending with the green Arched Ohio which shows up better on the basketball court.

When I brought that up in my news editing class, I got laughed at by my professor (he told us that you never have to listen to what people want to be called).

I call it OU because myself and 99.9% of the rest of students on campus right now call it OU.  It is what it is.

Looks like there is a "Relentless" sticker along the bottom of the helmet.  Looks cool.

What are the bets that we go with the attack cat on the side of the helmet with two green stripes and a white stripe in the middle?

I think they will go with the Ohio Arch outlined in white!

I wonder if Bert will paint the rest of his head in "Matte Black"?
