- You can't beat Ohio since you weren't playing them. OHIO was busy beating Miami for the sixth straight time on its way to another MAC East title this week, and therefore was unable to provide an opponent to your Wolverines this weekend. You should at least have some awareness of the school since you used to coach in the same conference and your memory can't be that short.

This sounds perfect to me.  Print, sign and send.

In general, I think our current administration from the Pres, to the AD is getting very lax with keeping up any momentum we gained in the late 90's or early 2000's. We don't have to be a football power to respect ourselves enough to protect our name.

I don't know how lax the current administration has been in protecting the OHIO trademark.  But I do know that it is imperative for a tradmark holder to zealously protect the trademark if it wants to maintain its integrity.

When I worked for TRW, a multi-billion global company, we learned that a New York City towing company was using the TRW name.  We sent the towing firm a polite but firm letter recommending that it change its name - which it did. Did we overreach or overreact?  We acted on our knowledge that  It is that kind of zealous protection that is required to maintain trademark integrity.

. . . .I don't like the michigan coach calling that team in columbus OHIO - he needs to find another name for them.  To call them OHIO is disrespectful to the BOBCAT NATION.  GO CATS!!!

I agree.  I think all of us individually should write a letter to Coach HokemPokum, with a copy to the ADs of Michigan, Ohio State and Ohio, saying that we are offended by this incorrect reference and mentioning that it violates the out-of-court settlement between Ohio and Ohio State about a decade ago.  I'm sure if they get a few of these letters that Coach HokemPokum will be put in his place by his AD and told to cease and desist.  How many are willing to write such letters?  I'll compose one this weekend.  If anyone has the addresses for these three, please post as it will make it easier on on all.  OK, who's on board for this letter writing campaign?

Here are the addresses:

Brady Hoke, Head Football Coach
University of Michigan
1000 South State Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2201

David Brandon, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
University of Michigan
1000 South State Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2201

Gene Smith, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics
Ohio State University
1022 Fawcett Center for Tomorrow
2400 Olentangy River Road
Columbus, OH 43210

James Schaus, Director of Athletics
Ohio University
Convocation Center
Athens, OH 45701

When you write your letter it's important that you use your own wording. Don't use the examples that others have posted here, unless you are that poster.

Thanks OhioCatFan.  I do plan to send coach Hoke a very respectful request.   I know that legally he can call osu  "Ohio" or whatever he wishes.   However, I would  like to make a point as a BOBCAT fan that  he neds to find a name that does not reflect toward OHIO UNIVERSITY  ( yes, I know fullwell what my diplomas say).

I think we should steal every chant, cheer, etc. from A&M that uses the word Ohio without the word State just to make them accuse us of stealing their tradition of bogarting OUr school's name.

Great!  Mine are all printed out and ready to go to the post office.  Don't forget to send copies to the various ADs.  I suspect that that's where the "action" will occur.

While listening to the lunch time talk show on 97.1 The Fan today, I heard Dimitrious Stanley refer to the O$U basketball team as "Ohio" not one but twice.  Not sure if he just tripped on himself or not (which he does frequently) but to hear that out of a former player's mouth is disturbing at best.

I need a shower...
