In general, I think our current administration from the Pres, to the AD is getting very lax with keeping up any momentum we gained in the late 90's or early 2000's. We don't have to be a football power to respect ourselves enough to protect our name.
I don't know how lax the current administration has been in protecting the OHIO trademark. But I do know that it is imperative for a tradmark holder to zealously protect the trademark if it wants to maintain its integrity.
When I worked for TRW, a multi-billion global company, we learned that a New York City towing company was using the TRW name. We sent the towing firm a polite but firm letter recommending that it change its name - which it did. Did we overreach or overreact? We acted on our knowledge that It is that kind of zealous protection that is required to maintain trademark integrity.
