Same guy also said we haven't received votes in a poll in years (we did last year).  Not to mention almost every subscription number in their C-USA/MAC TV deal article was wrong.  My slack has become taut.

The Posties' done fall off this year. The writing is very bad and there seems to be a lack of effort when compared to last seasons crew.

I emailed the reporter right away about this error as soon as I saw it on Friday.  He said that I was the second do so.  He said he'd make a correction.  It sounded like he was just going to make the correction on the online version.  I wrote him back indicating that a correction needed to be made in Monday's paper.  We'll see what happens. 

No. You're not.

And you're an optimist!  Just think how us cynics feel.

The inaccuracy in the article "Bobcats to put flawless record on the line against Scarlet Knights" was corrected days ago. 

However, as this was his first time dealing with an online correction (and as he drove overnight to NJ) our sports editor did not initially append an editor's note disclosing that change. Once that was brought to our attention, an editor's note was immediately added. A correction will appear on page 3 of tomorrow's newspaper. 

As for assertions of a lack of effort on behalf of our sports staff, those are absurd. Pick up the paper anyday and you'll see more coverage of more Ohio University sports than any other outlet on campus. Football has run on our front page everyday for more than a week and our sports editor's have worked above and beyond. Friday's paper included staff picks from Sports Illustrated's Peter King and ESPN's Jon Greenberg and previous weeks have included picks from former Bobcats currently in the NFL. We've posted more than 100 sports photos already, as well as podcasts, high quality video and solid high school football coverage.

For editors in their third week on the job, I think our guys are doing just fine.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but do us a favor and read the paper every once and awhile before bashing it.

Wes, you're in with a tough crowd here.  Lots of ex Post Toasties and j-school graduates frequent this place.  We are probably the only sports board in the country that regularly critiques other posters' grammar, syntax and word usage.  So, the bottom line is that you shouldn't take any of this personally.  Just be glad you're not on an Ohio A&M board where profane language substitutes for reasoned discussion!

I'd also like to note that the student newspaper at Delaware only publishes once a week and makes The Post look like the freakin' New York Times.

Today's football story in the print edition features the attendance and scoring summary of last week's game against Marshall.

I realize compared to many student papers it is quite good.  I also realize it could be a lot better with a bit more time and care (and perhaps warm bodies).

Believe me, I get how hard it is to turn things out on a deadline while juggling classwork, and I also realize this kind of thing happens a lot at (especially small-town) commercial papers, too.  I hope no offense is taken to my pointing out of error -- I truly mean it only to bring awareness, and hopefully, learning.

I read almost daily for four years as a student, and probably read 3-4 times a week the PDF having graduated -- I think that's proof positive that I think you and your crew are doing a large number of things right.

Lets not forget that famous Boo Jackson lede:

"But since hanging up his cleats it’s been the Athens County Municipal Court — not opposing defensive lineman — that he’s been evading..."

If Lowery and crew are quite comfortable destroying a fellow student's reputation in public, then they should be held accountable for their frequent screw-ups. 

Writing an article about a football team is not a terribly complex task. And getting names and numbers right seems straightforward, right? Yet so many times this Summer and Spring, I saw a picture caption on the Post's website that attributed some play to the wrong player. Hey guys, JUST MAYBE that isn't Chase Cochran (WR) making the tackle on defense!

It's not just factual errors.  The Post has also misquoted people, I being one of them.  In an interview last year they quoted me but paraphrased what I said and printed in quotations what they thought I meant.  I was furious as what I was reading in the quotations was not at all what I said, wasn't even close.  Some friends of mine have also had this happen to them where the quote wasn't even what they said or changed around.  I could elaborate more but I'm not going to because my list of errors is long and would embarrass the editor, I am sure (especially if he was one last year as well).

So if you are still reading, editor, I suggest you tell all your reporters that if they are quoting someone, they CANNOT paraphrase it and change it around and still put it in quotations.  That is just poor journalism that is on the level of Fox News.
