There are lot of factors working against us attendance wise for the Miami game- 2 days before Thanksgiving, weekday, evening, end of finals/students leaving for break, weather, MAC East already wrapped up, etc. But I haven't seen any mention of any special efforts by the university to get people to the game, have we given up on trying to fill the stands?

I realize there's a lot working against us but it would be nice if we could have another blackout sized crowd to furter seperate us from the other MAC schools.

I thought I saw something about $10 tickets the other day.  I was thinking about taking the family because my son doesn't have school the next day, but work might get in the way.

Senior night.  Last home game of the year.  MAC East champs.  National TV.

It is absolutely imperative that all OHIO turn out for this game.  Your employer does not care if you do not show up for work on the blow-off Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

If anyone needs a valid excuse note, any of we CPAs who lurk here will be happy to write you a legitimate absence excuse.  The ability to do this is part of our licensing.

I have, sadly, traded my opportunity to go to the Miami game for an opportunity to go to Detroit.

I'm sending 695 a throat lozenge to cover for me.

That's funny Ted, but it's really not.  I got the same mailer a week or two ago.  If Jim is serious about raising money, he's got to quit shooting himself in the foot by wasting money on mailers that make no sense.

I'll be there.  No lozenge necessary.  I'll try to be as loud as possible as your substitute so I will be picked up by the TV microphones.

I came home this evening and my wife was watching the Ole Miss/LSU game on ESPN.  For a brief moment I thought she was watching a midweek MAC came on ESPN3.  Why, because there were less fans in the stands then when EMU plays home games.  Seriously, here was the No. 1 team in the nation playing a Saturday night game on ESPN and the stadium in Oxford, Mississippi looked about 90% empty.  It actually made OUr MAC stadiums look like sell-outs.  I guess MAC teams are not the only ones who have a hard time filling a stadium or to keep the fans in the stands after halftime.  Actually, the place was empty by the end of the 1st quarter.  Go figure, Saturday night game, ESPN, No. 1 team in nation and you can not put any more people in the stands then Eastern Michigan does when it plays the Sisters of the Blind at home on a Tuesday.

Well it was full at the beginning, but everyone left after the rebs started getting their ass kicked. But whatever helps you sleep at night....

The mass exodus started towards the end of the 1st quarter when LSU went-up 21-0.  By the start of the second half almost everyone except for a large LSU contingent and some Ole Miss students remained.  I guess the Ole Miss people just come to hear the band then leave.  And again, it is a Saturday night game on national tv and they are hosting the No. 1 team in the nation.

Gotta pick up the daughter from campus Tuesday.  I have a feeling my car will "break down" mysteriously while parked in Athens, won't restart until Wednesday, am forced to stay overnight Tuesday so that I can see the game.  Sounds like a plan....

as nice as it is to have strong student turnout and a solid return to campus of alums its the full time residents of SEO that make up the base of our attendance. what's the prevailing perception of OU and OU athletics amongst the locals?

When I was there 20yrs ago it felt like there was apathy with a bit of a rift between town and gown, has that changed for the better? Best case scenario, if we continue to build a winning tradition what's the top end for attendance, could it ever get to a point to warrant an addition to, or rebuilding of, Peden?

The attendance of "locals" is slowing building.  The number of folks who are taking advantage of the "family packs" and sitting in the end zone seats opposite the visitors areas has grown in recent years.  There is, however, a long way to go.

This will be something that is of great interest to me. I prayed for this situation to be an option while a student in 80's. 8-3 Team, Miami Game and huge break ahead of me going into the quarter end. How could a student not be at this game? I'll be there so I will wait and see before I pass judgement. I was never in that big of a hurry to get home given it was just one day difference.

I'm bringing 2 redchickens with me for the overnight party. We better win this game so I don't have to listen to them on the 2+ hours back to The Nati.

Nice post OCF! I love the combo of federalism and Frank's signature catchphrase.

How can a student not be at this game?  It'll happen because the university wants everyone out when their done with their exams and the dorms have to be emptied by 6 pm that day and I don't see parents wanting to stay a few more hours for a game (it's nice to think that they would, but in reality I just don't see that happening)

I will say this. Atleast this is the last season that the Miami game will be relegated to low student attendance. With the switch to quarters next year, students will be around for that Tuesday and hopefully show up to the game. While the attendance may never be huge due to Thanksgiving, the University will not be closed to the point where students will not be allowed in their dorm rooms.

As a rivalry game, this game should never be on a weeknight.  This should always be an October Saturday afternoon game whether it's in Athens or Oxford.

Actual attendance Tuesday night - less than 10,000.

well if the students are not there then we should occupy the seats behind the team instead. Love being there when possible and will look good for tv as well. Anyone else in?
