What is it about OHIO youtube videos and the Germans? Apparently "Awful Weatherman" is also huge over there.

I wonder how much money the submitter of this video has made in advertising.  Saw an article recently on how easily it is for someone to make good money on youTube videos that get pretty popular.

If you set it up right video ad rates are solid because the user is more likely to stay on the video longer as video keeps more attention than standard web page ads which pay out much lower.

As an alumnus of The Ohio University and the Marching 110, this video is awesome. Is the performance the best in the 110's history? Probably not (but top 5% IMO) given no marching, but the sound of this group as opposed to when I arrived in Athens in 1996 (the same year Dr. Suk took over) is leaps and bounds ahead of 15 years ago. The old arguments made by Buckeye and Miami fans is that the 110 didn't have the musicality or march with the same cleanliness, but those arguments have been outdated for a decade now. The great combination of an awesome performance coupled with an insanely popular song all in a world where sharing video is as easy as a click likely have brought more attention to the Ohio University Marching 110 than any other event/performance in the 45 year history of the current band. To me, that is incredibly awesome. Hi-o!

I don't think that the 110 parent who recorded the video has activated the Google ads, so I don't think they've earned any money on the 110 videos.  I say that because when you watch the videos, no "ads" appear in the video frame.

I have a couple videos on YT that I have made about $620 on a combined views of about 1,450,000.  However, I wasn't invited into Adsense until I had 500,000 views.  So, I only got paid on about 950,000 views.  At that rate, the payment equals about 1 penny for every 15 views (or 1,500 views = $1).

IF the owner had activated Adsense, with over 4.8 Million views of all his videos, he would have probably earned around $3,200 (maybe more if Google pays based on length viewing time of video, as mine are about 1/2 the length of the 110 videos).  Of course, $3,200 would have bought 4 new band uniforms .  The reason I don't think he's earned any money is because when my videos play, ads pop-up on the bottom 1/3rd of the video screen.  You can close the ads by clicking the "x" in the upper right hand corner of the ad box.  His videos do not have ads displayed during the viewing.

Yeah I wondered if they hadn't turned them on.  Though I think the rate you get on ads might also vary on the amount of clicks and not just views.  One of the people in the article I mentioned made like 300K for around the same amount of views this one had.

I do think clicking on the ads generates more money for the video.  $300,000 would be awesome.  They could buy two sets of uniforms, or maybe start a nice fund for their Europe tour.  Maybe the band needs to do their own video channel.

When I heard the Marching 110 this year had 29 freshmen trombones coming in to tryout and 19 returning old men, I thought "Good God, 48 trombones?  I would have been an alternate until my junior year."  I can think of 7 trombones, including myself, trying out my freshman year and 2 were actually sophomores who didn't join the band their first year at OU.

It's great for the band though.  The internal competition is really making the band better than the best ever.  However, they still respect the history and tradition built up through prior years.  I was impressed to find out that they show the "Risk and Respect" video at sectional dinners.

It's a documentary done in 1992 on the 110.  Think it was done by an alum of the 110.  I haven't personally viewed it, but know it has some interviews and footage of the band.  I imagine the big draw is that it has footage from the 1992 homecoming when the alumni band fought the Miami football team.

The band really enjoys old footage of the band. I'm sure they'd love having more footage from 60's - early '80s, but really not much out there.

Imagine if the 110 got the Evan Shaw and co. treatement in regards to videography. That would be one hell of a marketing piece for Ohio University.

There might be a little archived from ABC's infrequent visits to Peden, back in the day when they actually showed some of the band at halftime instead of ad nauseum analysis of "the game of the week."  (When OU grad Dave Diles hosted the postgame scoreboard show and would proudly proclaim that "they're celebrating at Court and Union" after an OU win.)  I never heard whether Gene Thrailkill filmed any halftime shows, but may have.

It has been a great run for the 110 and this video.  I have two sons in the band.  I will not do the advertising thing because it is not my material 100% and I do not think people want to see ads when they watch a video.   Although maybe a tuition reduction could be in order for all of the positve press for the University.  Go 110!

Ringo, perhaps you can get an invite to join them and give demos to the Irish on the proper methods of face painting in green and white!

I hope they are able to accept.  That would be awesome considering all the attention the Party Rock Anthem has gathered from Europe.  I could see making that trip to see them perform.

Ah, the Shamrock Bowl.  Remember it well.   My wife and I had reservations to it -- we ended up gong to Germany instead.   You are too long in the tooth, Old Man!

Is there anyone in admissions on the thread that may share the answer with us? Reading comments on Youtube that many have said, "I want to be in that band" or that "I found my new school" and the stats  appear to show that most viewers are teen girls and high school boys followed by college aged men--has there been any unexplained increase in applications---especially from non-Ohio areas? Internationally?

At least some people who read the comments are now understanding that there is a non-State in Ohio--our loyal viewers and posters set them straight quickly when a fool makes the mistake.
