Classy!!

I imagine if we don't see the shanked punt then maybe we don't end up in Boise.

Caleb Troop has a nice synopsis that I read via twitter of this episode.  I have to say I chuckled reading through the tweets and replies.  And quite frankly, I agree with Hershey, although I have enough gray on the temples to know not to voice such opinions in such a manner.

Yikes, don't be so quick to defend our own guy. Firstly, I agree you can't tweet any opinion these days without offending someone. However, he said 'Who wants to play in Idaho in December?' If he meant 'Who wants to play in Idaho?' he would have said that. If that's what Idaho interpreted from his statement, that's on them. We're from Ohio. We should know what it's like to have an inferiority complex.

As a guy who is sick of boilerplate comments by coaches and players, I enjoy honesty by athletes. I don't rip them for having opinions because I want more of them. You know how great sports would be if we actually got real opinions from athletes and they weren't in fear of being jumped on by fans and certain shrieking members of the media? (Like Bob Costas using his halftime time on NBC to sound like an old man sitting on his porch screaming at toddlers for laughing too loud while playing).

Hershey didn't say he wouldn't play there. He didn't say he hated Idahoians. He did not disparage all starches. He simply implied Idaho in December is not what you think of when you think of a bowl game.

And I agree wholeheartedly with him.

Better than getting a "We're honored to be playing in the PRESTIGIOUS Potato Bowl and this is a highlight of my young adult life" (glazed-over look in eyes as player awkwardly holds Proust upside down) comment.

Mr. Hershey's performance has been less than stellar in recent weeks.  He needs to keep his mouth shut.

Paul Hershey is a good guy and valuable asset to the team..very valuable. I dont see the big fuss other than a bunch of couch potatoes who more than likely never played past grade school making a big deal out of his opinion

The last thing OUr team needs to do is to provide billboard material to the opposing team or host city, however weak or flimsy that material might be.

If Ohio doesn't get it's head out of it's rear-end Utah State could very well beat us on national TV and I really don't want to see that happen.

This is like the Rufus attack of Brutus, 90% upset/concerned, 10% LMAO!

After an adult beverage, those numbers will probably change to 70% - 30%!

He might get thoroughly booed when he steps on the blue turf, but I have a feeling that the Idahoans will go out of their way to show him a fantastic time.

Anyway, given what happened last year in a fun city, maybe a little boredom will keep them focused on football.

Maybe if the dude could punt the ball farther than 11 yds. he'd be playing somewhere other than Idaho in December. I might be a couch potato but I can punt a football 11 yards.

Real classy move...always good to insult your hosts...brilliant!

If Mr. Hershey has a free hour or two perhaps he could see if Ohio offers "maturity 101" next quarter.

Wow look at these comments.Iits pretty obvious he was saying that its going to be cold in boise in december....thats it...How is this a big deal? Everyone needs to calm down. People on this very board have been slamming the bowl game, but when our own player says something everyone jumps on him like he is a horrible person. Come on now.

Utah State can absolutely beat us.  They've played as good of schedule as we have.  They should have beaten Auburn on the road, should have beaten BYU on the road.  It's virtually a home game for them and if Mr. Hershey is any indication of the team's attitude they're going to get their rear ends handed to them.

Because you can only have an opinion when you're playing well.

No, but at the same time his shank had a direct impact on why he is going to play in Idaho in December.

Works both ways, just as easy to say he has had a direct impact on why we were in the MAC Championship and are going to a bowl in the first place.

What he said is true, it is obvious from this board that most agree with the sentiment, as I don't see nearly the people clamoring to make the trip as we have in recent years, and it sheds light on the question of why we (the MAC) have an agreement with them.  Obviously, the answer seems to be that we have no other options, and neither did the game.

Hershey's only error here is that he put the comment on a public-facing account in an era where such things can blow up.  When it is the 110 and black jerseys, it is great.  Rufus on Brutus and this, not so much.

I think the point is to be thankful you're even going to a bowl especially after laying a GIANT egg on national television last week. During the 5 years I attended Ohio when we won 9 games I would have been happy to see us playing a bowl game in freaking China!

He is a paid representative of the school and the program.  He embarrassed both.  I am certain that each player has been warned about their use of Twitter and FB to broadcast any opinion relating to Ohio football.

I will never understand why people need to know what other people are thinking 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Agree.  But this ain't far from it and as Mr. Swank will remind us all, on Twitter at least you know who the offensive donkey is most of the time.
