I'll be there so only 198 more to go. Trip is no more expenseive for us then when we go to Athens and hotels are very cheap. Feedback from fans has always been positive concerning Boise. The Utah State fans are known for being a rowdy crew I'm sure they'll invade Boise and provide excitement.

We may finally win OUr first bowl game EVER and there will probably be less than 200 fans there to witness it live.  What a shame.

We may do better than what you think. Ohio has about 15,000 alumni living in western states where the flight cost and length of time flying are more reasonable from a western staging point. There are 20,000 OHIO alumni in the Southeast so if we brought 2,500+ to Mobile I see no reason why a 1,000 Ohio fans couldn't show up in Boise. There are a lot of Bobcat fans out West that couldn't afford the bowl games out East or haven't watched the Bobcats in a bowl before that will be interested.

Make that 196... I'm dragging the wife along.

This game is winnable, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss us winning our first bowl game.

We're all Bobcats here... Man up and get there. Fly into SLC and drive! Or Portland... Whatever works for you.. But GET THERE.

You CAN do it, if you want it badly enough. FIND A WAY.

GO BOBCATS!

In the past, this Bowl has paid out more actual cash than the other MAC tie-in Bowls. Hopefully, that will take the financial sting out of it. I can't imagine more than 50 people go to this.

Is that before the MAC got the tie-in or after? Because some of these past games have some pretty solid national programs in it. I can't imagine the last two have produced as much coin.

I found this article regarding last year's game: http://www.rrstar.com/updates/x493348591/College-football...

It says the guaranteed portion is $450,000. My guess is you'd have to sell 10,000 tickets to get to the full $750,000. Ohio received $300K guaranteed for the New Orleans Bowl last year, sold $16K in tickets and had expenses of $412K. If they keep expenses around the same level, they could come close to breaking even.

This is exactly why Ohio wanted this Bowl Game and why the Swankster has no idea what he is talking about.  Also, the MAC helps subsidize part of the trip.  This bowl game is the best bowl game for us cost wise because of a bigger guarantee.  It doesn't matter where we go, we aren't clearing $100k in tickets.

You have to be kidding me. Man up and go to Boise? How the hell will you get there? It will take you a full travel day, if you're lucky to make all the connections. These kinds of bowl games are just plain silly. We had a nice year, let's be happy with it. If we can't even fill up Peden Stadium when the MAC is on the line vs Temple, we're going to fly in droves to Boise?

Does anyone know if we are the home or visiting team.  I noticed last year that NIU was wearing white?  I wonder if they switch year to year or is it based on overall record...

What goes good with a Blue field.. Green, White, Black???? ha ha...

Fan unhappiness with a chosen bowl game can be universal. Like someone else on the board (I forget who), since the then GMAC Bowl years ago I've been casually following the Southern Miss program to see how they're doing, how we stack up with them since that bowl game, etc. I was looking at one of their message boards this morning and their fans are livid and pissed off!(our board Friday night was nothing compared to what Southern Miss' fans were writing) They're going to Hawaii to play Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl and they think their coach screwed them. For whatever reason the Liberty Bowl rejected Southern Miss to be the Conference USA rep. so Coach Fedora choose the Hawaii Bowl. Think getting to Boise's expensive? Try Honolulu! Even though they get a great location, none of their fans are going and for how they finished the season by beating Houston, they thought they could've played a more prominent opponent in a bigger bowl and they might be right. So it's also not just Ohio fans unhappy with their bowl selection.

if you want to talk about unhappy fans, check out the Rutgers boards.
All of my friends are ticked off that they got stuck in the Pinstripe Bowl.

At least its only an hour drive from their campus.

That just shows you that most of the bowls are a sham. About 30 teams tops should be bowling.

Yep. A full travel day. That's what vacation time is for, right?  I mean, it took me 28 hours or something like that to get to Seoul.  12 hours shoudl be cake!

Airfare from Cincy to Portland is $489... I can probably do better flying out of dayton or columbus...

Then it's a six hour drive from Portland to Boise.

Yes, it's sub-optimal.  Direct from Cincy to Boise is 779, so i'm weighing the additional $400 versus the drive...

$400 for 12 hours in a car... hmmm

As for Southern Miss, they win the league and they go to Hawaii and play 7-5 Nevada. The team they beat, Houston, goes to Dallas and plays Penn State of the Big 10 in the Cotton Bowl stadium.

Yep. The Golden Eagle fans sure are mad. One press writer said the bowl game in Hawaii would have been a good reward had Southern Miss finsihed fourth or fifth in the league with the same 7-5 record as their opponent.

Maybe I'm missing something but doesn't  $779 - $489 = $290  ?

In your estimation here you've got to allow at least one day for flying there back and then at a minimum 1 day of car travel on either side if you are flying into Portland or Salt Lake City. I started to factor all of that in and it looked like I would need to leave on Thursday and return on Monday. By doing that it greatly reduced the price of a ticket on priceline to about 400 from my local airport. Then I decided to plug in Boise as a Thursday-Monday flight and found I could get that for 400 dollars too! With name your own price you could maybe do it for 300 dollars. Airline cards are not accepted with name your own price but I have double miles set up on my credit card. Price really isn't a factor if you can be flexible on the departure date.

Edit: My thousandth post and I've just saved everybody a 1,000 dollars.

Having jettisoned the disappointment of not going to Mobile, this bowl is actually growing on me.  In trying to rationalize dropping significant coin to make the trip, I spent a little time on the bowl website, and the title sponsor and bowl committee actually really have their stuff together, and are taking a tongue in cheek approach to the promotion.

From the commercial for the game to the game t's featuring a huge cartoon baked potato on the back, I don't think they are taking themselves too seriously, and I like that.  I think they are viewing it much the same way that the original bowls did when they came into existence: an opportunity to drive some vacation traffic into their market in an otherwise down tourist season.

I completely agree that the MAC tie in is not optimal, not for the MAC or for the bowl, but they are certainly doing their part to promote the event in creative ways, and I think they should be admired for it.

Plus, I hold Pete accountable.  After all, he was the smarty pants who used their logo as his avatar long before we ever learned there was an opportunity for us to actually land there.  Talk about self fulfilling prophecy!

It looks like they've dropped the tickets to $40 now.  I guess they weren't selling so well.

Tix to the SuperDome last year were also $40, but scalpers had them outside for $10-$20.
