Though I still think this unlikely, I do know that Akron has more money than brains (given some deep pocket alumni and local corporate sponsors).

I can tell you that Akron can offer every last dollar it can, and it will have little impact.  JT and his wife are very, very, very well off.   If anyone thinks that a very proud, national championship winning coach would go to the dregs of  the Bowl Championship Subdivision, I would urge him to think again...

maybe they'll settle for his brother, Doc Tressel...

Tressel to Akron a Long Shot

Key Quote: The NCAA has yet to rule on the OSU scandal, but it appears likely Tressel will be hit with a show-cause penalty, meaning the sanctions levied against the coach will follow him to his next coaching stop. If the school wishes to avoid the NCAA penalties, it must appear before the NCAA and "show cause" as to why it should not be penalized for hiring him.

I can find a reason for Akron.  It is a punishment itself for someone as prestigious (tongue in cheek) as Tressel to coach the dreg of the dregs of college football.

Didn't Kent hire Senderoff as an assistant before a show cause was levied against him?

Did that change anything once he was entrenched on a staff?

No. I'm serious. This time.

You really have to question any university's integrity that would hire a leader of men that has lied openly and in written form like Tressel has.
His only coaching stop might be the pros.

This is AKRON. You could have questioned their integrity when they held onto the Hipsher family, or hired Dambrot, or fired Ianello on the way to his mother's funeral.

Akron is the biggest piece of human garbage masquerading as a university in the MAC or state of Ohio. They would hire Jerry Sandusky if they could.

And to beat the horse dead:  Akron probably isn't going to have 'em lining up to grab this gem of a job (Infocision be damned).  This job isn't a waystop along the road to something better.  It's the last stop before oblivion.

If the position winds up on the Akron job board (not sure if they have to post it), I think I might apply, just for schlitz and giggles. My cover letter will stress the following reasons why I am the right coach for the job:

1. Back in high school, I was an assistant coach for a 9 & 10 year-old team that won the local league's championship. PROVEN WINNER.
2. I have a JD and have zero college football playing experience, just like Mike Leach, and he's the guy that all the big-time programs want. So, really, I'm like the second best option available.
3. I will accept a base salary salary that is lower than any other FBS head football coach in America. In tough economic times like today, we all need to be willing to cut back.
4. I am a true student of the game, because I watch waaaaaaaaaay too much college football. Or at least that's what my wife tells me.

If OSU didn't have to post the job, I can't see why Akron would have to.

They may not (and probably don't). Some friends and I were joking once about a CFB head coach job being posted on a job board (can't remember the school.....Marshall maybe....but I don't think that's right....) and what our pitches would be if we applied. As you most excellently stated above, Kron is worthless, and the thought of some dude off the street just sending in an application strikes me as hilarious, because part of me thinks (or at least wants to think) that said dude might get 12 seconds of consideration by the athletic department.

NCAA:  As you are aware, your hiring of Jim Tressel comes with a show-cause penalty. Please explain why we should not levy penalties against Akron as part of this hire.

Akron: Because we're Akron and that is penalty enough.

Urban. Meyer was saying the same thing. :-)
Doubt it'll happen, but bottom line is you can't trust these guys as a general rule. Again, I agree that this is virtually a lock not to happen, but you can't base that on public denials when you're dealing with the coaching fraternity.

And you can't trust Tressel as a specific rule.

The last time Depaul fired their basketball coach they posted the position on their employment website.  Some people pointed out that it just showed how desperate they were to even get applicants.

Mangino would help to fill up the usually empty Infocision Stadium!

Posting a job opening does not necessarily mean you are "desperate."  It's usually a case of sticking with procedures established by the institution, often to be in compliance with affirmative action/eeo requirements.  UNC Chapel Hill posted their FB HC position and I know they are not desperate.  I am also almost certain that TOSU did not post the FB HC position, despite saying on official website TOSU is "committed to affirmative action and equal employment opportunity..."

Well I didn't know wayne states coach was being considered for akron but I did see wayne state in action this year. If he comes to akron it will he will certainly bring a different attitude with him. Wayne State is by far the dirtiest football team I have ever seen in 48 years of watching football, even more they don't care what you think about it. Maybe this is just what the zips need to finally get their program going.

Tressel going to akron is like getting dumped by kim kardashian and going out on a date with paula dean immediately afterwards. Just isn't going to happen.
