Just in time for some other coach to deal with the NCAA problems that are likely to develop.
Why do people say this? Bowden has been a coach at four universities and as far as I know there have been no major NCAA violations.
Bowden told a reporter in 2003 that his players were receiving 12 to 15k to sign with the Tigers during his first two years as head coach in 1993 and 1994. Bowden claims he stopped the practice. He did not report the violations at the time. More interestingly, he left the program because of a spat with Auburn's lead booster.
At the least, Bowden didn't self report major violations. I'm suspicious of his story because Auburn has persistently had a pay for play that stretches from the 1950s to Cam Newton. I don't think Bowden miraculously made that program lily white during his stay.
As he said in his 2003 interview, as Auburn's head coach, you look the other way and thank the booster for supporting the program.
Auburn gave Bowden a 1.5m settlement to go quietly.Iin exchange for the cash, he was given a gag order.
The SEC is one gooey, sticky, foul mess.
