I think it’s informative when one of our own players tweets about the transfer portal that there’s no sense of commitment any more and it’s become a mini-pro league

I mean he's not wrong whoever said that. It's the sad world we live in.

Let’s be honest though, but where is the legal commitment on the side of the institution? I mean seriously, scholarships are ONE YEAR commitments! Only 1 league (I may be off by 1) has a 4 year scholarship. Until schools have to make commitments, why do kids? I mean, realistically thinking, Kid signs a 1 SEASON deal when they sign their papers! ONE season at a time.

I wish Vakos well but wonder if he will beat out the incumbent who was RS Freshman. With both place kickers and punters one can get to the NFL from smaller schools, like Ohio. Going way back to Dave Green and then Zastudil later.

Shay Taylor. He just tweeted “no offense to those that do”. Probably had some feedback or second thoughts

Curious, did Luke recruit Vakos at all at Cincinnati?

Pretty good choice for potentially playing in a big game at the end of next season. While not Athens, it has the campus hills and a hippie liberal pedigree with some State Street/Court Street action.

Makes me wonder coming to OHIO and now a Badger if he is not a fan of the OSU like many on these pages and dreams of whipping them with a few pressure kicks!

I think it’s because BarStool blew his cover that he isn’t the QB. ;)

There is a picture on his instagram in UC attire... so perhaps? Believe he was PWO status there and a couple other P5.

But it is a bit weird he would leave success at OU to go compete with redshirt freshman Nate Van Zelst, who had a solid 2022 campaign as well. Van Zelst went 11-of-14 on field goal attempts, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from 40 yards or longer, and made all 35 extra point attempts.

Did he delete? Can't find it.

Only see him saying he will miss Blauser and KK.

It looks like it was deleted. I saw it yesterday. The LB depth will be tested.

Gonna need a massive year from the kid who flipped from Kent State to OU before signing.

This is all most puzzling to me. Next year the offense is going to be awesome, with most key people returning. Next year the defense may be iffy, especially at the start of the season, with 10 Senior starters on the 2022 team (though some have a Covid year left). You would think that here should be lots of opportunity for defensive players who didn't play a lot last year to get increased playing time.

So, who is in the portal? There are no offensive players at aLL in the portal. Other than Vakos, it's all defensive players. What about players declaring for the draft? Again, it's mostly defensive players

DL
Portal - Kylen McCracken (9 games, 6 tackles)
Portal - Denzel Daxon - (8 games, 2 tackles)
Draft - Kai Ceaser

LB
Portal - Cannon Blauser - (116 career tackles, 1 sack)
Portal - Kyle Kelly - (45 career tackles, .5 sacks)
Portal - CJ Hankins - (DNP)

DB
Portal - Jamison Collier
Portal - Tyler Mullins - S (5 games, 3 Tackles)
Draft - Alvin Floyd
Draft - Zach Sanders

Offensive players
Draft - James Bostic

The 4-2 has to have some LB’s reevaluate their situations. Essentially only four Lb’s saw and time now two are transferring out. They never had three LB’s on the field and moved McCrory, Johnson and Quinn to other spots during the season. Limited spots. I assume Quinn moves back to defense.
DT is more of a mystery. You have to wonder if they are looking at the portal after the McCracken announcement.

You would have to think we are looking at DL in the portal when you lose a starter and two backups.

Does Rodney Mathews have one more year? Dude was a stud on the D-line this year.

Mathews and Dugan both came on strong at the end of the year. Both are DL seniors. Not sure of their eligibility.

Shane Bonner at DE is in the same boat.

He was a monster at the Arizona Bowl.

Former Missouri and Indiana starting QB Connor Bazelak is transferring to Bowling Green. While he has regressed over his years, he was still a starting QB at 2 P5 schools. He'll have 2 years of eligibility left.

A Dayton boy, Archbishop Alter HS grad.

He's got 2 years of eligibility left and he's transferred twice?

Wow. That man left greener grass for uncut, dried-up, yellow-shriveled weeds.

Better than Fiami I guess.

No loyalty!

Usually coaches say in transfer meetings that "you can't go in conference and to a rival." Guess Marshall isn't a rival like it use to be.

While we are on that subject, that game needs to be scheduled before or after the Miami game every year. Imagine 2 home games back to back in Athens. Business would be nice those two weekends!
