The game will be on but for some reason if its called off I'm sure we could get an FCS team in and make a petition to the NCAA to allow 2 FCS wins this year.

As we sit here in July, I don't think we'll need to count any 1AA wins toward bowl eligibility this year.  Penn St was 9-4, Norfolk St. was very good last year (9-3) and Terd was 7-6, but beyond that there isn't a team on the schedule with a winning record, and only one (BSU) that had a .500 record vs. 1A opponents (EMU had two 1AA wins).  Barring a complete breakdown or major injury problems, this team -- with the current schedule -- should win 9-10 games this season at least.

I for one am not about to get over-confident. As it stands now, we've got zero wins. Maybe it stems from my undergrad years perfectly matching the dark times of Knorr, maybe it stems from watching us lose 2 games in person in buffalo, but until the game clock reads 00:00 I'm not taking any games for granted.

Just in case PSU's season is cancelled I checked out on line to see which D1 programs are idle the first week.   This is what I found...

TCU
UL-Monroe (plus a stale pretzel for Love)
Cincinnati (game on the following Thursday, however)

I don't think you have to worry about any cancellations. All indications are an absurd amount of scholarship reductions/years of bowl bans that will absolutely kill them down the road.

I just hope the NCAA doesn't dust off the television ban, because then we get screwed out of watching it

That would be great to schedule, however all of those teams already have 12 games scheduled. The only way the NCAA allows you to play a 13 game schedule is if one of your games is at Hawaii. So the only way we could play a replacement game is of someone was on penn states schedule and now only plays 11 games, like someone said, Iowa.

I guess we find out tmrw at 9 a.m.

side note - I think the Paterno family should stop sending out press releases - not helping...

As a student the last 4 years, witnessing OUr first bowl win and 3 NCAA tourney victories, I think it's safe to say we're going undefeated.

It looks like the game will be played, but could the TV be cancelled?  Could something like a 3 year TV ban be an option in this day and time?  Then could every game be streamed online?  There are some questions as to how that would work, but I see there is an announcement scheduled for 9am tomorrow and the penalties will be announced at that time.  We shall find out soon enough.

In the unlikely event they cancel the game or PSU's season, I think a forfeit win is a realistic possibility.

My bet is a 5 year postseason ban, and a loss of 50 scholarships years 1 and 2, 30 for year 3, 25 for year 4, and 20 for year 5.

No losses in schedules or TV games, because it then becomes unfair for opponents they scheduled, like us and other big ten opponents.

I'd be very surprised if they have to give up that many scholarships.  How do you give up 50 in one year?  Aren't schools only allowed to give out 85--such that most schools only give out 20-25 per year?

I hate the fact that OUr Cats are the team that has to walk into this circus. Of all year's to go into Penn State with a legit shot to win and it has to be under these circumstances. Focus is going to be so important.
I wonder about the NCAA letting PSU players transfer immediately. What will that team look like? Too many unknowns.

we'll see what is actually announced tomorrow morning.  But with the reports of huge fines and other penalties that are out there this evening, it almost appears the NCAA, without issuing a death penalty,  may be attempting to make it impossible for Penn St. to continue the program.

And 47 is USF (the hint was correctly solved in a comment). So we are at least 46th

I'll honestly be very surprised if they actually get that many scholarships taken away, but some inside sources say that the death penalty may have been a better out than what they're getting, so I'm imagining an absolute decimation in scholarship and fines.

If we want to show some support for victims of child abuse, I'm all for it.  But I think that our support should have nothing to do with the fact that Penn State is on our schedule, because then it looks as if we're just wanting to ride the publicity that this horrible event has caused.  Sexual abuse isn't something that is done in the state of Pennsylvania, but everywhere in the country.

We're going into State College to kick the crap out of a football team, not for a publicity stunt.

We should have a great chance to win. If they get a 3 year bowl ban any Sophs, Juniors, and Seniors can transfer without sitting out a year. It could be max exodus and we're left playing against the 2nd and 3rd stringers.

They got a 4 year bowl ban....pretty sure it won't happen but can you imagine playing your 1st game against your former penn st. teammates.

Per CBS, a 4 year bowl ban, $60 million fine (equivalent to 1 year's revenue), loss of 40 scholarships (total) over 4 years, and all wins from 1998-2011 vacated.

So, any current player can transfer immediately, and Bobby Bowden is again the winningest coach in I-A history. This in addition to whatever the B1G decides to do (if anything). Penn State is a zombie program for the next few years.

And congratulations to our friends at Temple for becoming the best football team in the state of Pennsylvania.

Don't discount Villanova so quickly.  We all know Temple is overrated.

Watching the press conference right now. I believe it was said that every student athlete under scholarship at Penn State can remain under scholarship if they meet academic requirements.

The only reason to transfer would to have the experience in playing in a bowl game.

Furthermore, it was asked about if vacating wins would take away Paterno's title as the winningest coach in I-A history. The answer was, "I'll leave that up to you (the media) to speculate." Obviously, it will at least have an asterisk by his name or maybe the record book will move him down.

Or you don't want to be associated with the program anymore, given what has happened off the field and what probably is going to happen on the field. The exodus won't come from juniors and seniors. It'll be the freshmen and sophomores (and new recruits).

That is true. But if that is the reason you are transferring, than you have already made up your mind to your team or privately. I assume going through summer practice that you might not be thinking that way.

I was just saying what was directly related to the penalties announced just now.

It will be interesting to know how many players will transfer.

Considering this isn't what the recruits signed up for - it would be a reason to transfer. There is a reason they picked Penn State in the first place - they wanted tradition, they wanted to be with a winning program - they didn't go to Indiana for a reason... Not saying its a good reason, but if Penn State is now a lower tier Big Ten program - maybe they want to move on.

it would appear that #46 will be Baylor from the clue given." The mascots are both judges". They have a tradition of naming their mascots judge. It will be interesting to see how long we last before being named and if Penn State's ranking might be revised in all of these preseason polls.
