Driving back to Athens, I saw a billboard that advertised OUInTheHouse.com. The website said it is a new store (First of Its kind!) going in on Court. Anyone know anything about this?

Looks like College Bookstore is behind that new site, wonder if it'll be a new store front/location.

I was thinking possibly new location meaning setting up shop in Peden and the Convo replacing Follett's, but it states coming to Uptown Athens, so I'm thinking it has to be on Court Street.  Anybody in Athens see any renovations or construction on Court?

"Cross Court Cards and Gifts", across the street from the College Book Store, which may still be owned by the women who owns the book store, is under renovation.

And the former Gator, now owned by John Wharton, is putting student apartments on the upper floor(s), but hasn't said anything about the street level.

Also, it appears the university will be moving into the former Woolworth building which may still have the same owner as the bookstore. I believe they will be using the street and possibly ground floors levels, but they haven't said what use they will have for it. Given the classroom space issues they are having, my hunch is at least part of it may be used for that purpose.

Heard that the bookstore signed an exclusive agreement with Under Armor and will be opening a new store that just features Under Armor gear in the old Cross Court store.

My guess is that the slogan is a play off of Under Armor's "we must protect this house" ads.

Did we resign with Russell? Has the decision been made public yet? If your theory is true, then my dream scenario is that we signed with UA and the new store will feature authentic jerseys/on-field clothing/everything else UA provides the teams.

Please don't get my hopes up!

Also, does anybody know what is going to happen to the space that Specialty Books used to occupy? When I went to Athens recently I noticed that Specialty was gone.

This does make sense.  I know that they sell "Cross Court" shirts on the College Bookstore website, and it makes sense if they're the same owner.  Would be awesome if we did sign with Under Armour.

Under Armour's history from their Wikipedia page:

"The company was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, a 23-year old former University of Maryland special teams captain for the university American football team. Plank began the business from his grandmother's basement in Washington, D.C.

Plank, who got tired of having to change out of the sweat-soaked T-shirts he wore under his jersey, noticed that his compression shorts stayed dry, which inspired him to make a T-shirt using moisture-wicking fabric for athletic performance. Major competing brands including Nike, Adidas and Reebok soon followed in Plank's footsteps with their own version of Under Armour's moisture-wicking apparel.[6]

By the end of 1996, Under Armour had generated $17,000 in revenue purely by word of mouth. In 1997, Plank had $100,000 in orders to fill and found a factory in Ohio to make the shirts. People began to take notice of the brand when a front page photo of USA Today featured Oakland Raiders quarterback Jeff George wearing an Under Armour mock turtleneck. Following that front page, Under Armour's first major sale came when an equipment manager from Georgia Tech asked Plank for 10 shirts. The deal with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets opened the door to a contract with North Carolina State. With positive reviews from players, word began to spread and orders began to increase. Under Armour first made a profit in 1998 and received its first big break in the 1999 Oliver Stone movie Any Given Sunday, in which Willie Beamen, played by Jamie Foxx, wore an Under Armour jockstrap. Plank sent samples of his products to the costume designer. Leveraging the release of Any Given Sunday, Plank purchased an ad in ESPN The Magazine. The ad generated close to $750,000 in sales, and nine years after starting the company, Plank finally put himself on the payroll."

Oh now you got my hopes all way way up.  This does make perfect sense, however.

Pretty sure we did re-sign with Russell. I think this is just something the bookstore is doing on their own...

You're probably right, but until I see an official statement I'm going to keep dreaming

Is everyone forgetting that there is already a church at the corner of Court & Washington?

Although I would rather see another retail space there than another church.

My college friends could tell you that any time I patronized any of the fine establishments on Court Street, there would be a 25% chance of street preachin' happening. There was also a 25% chance of air guitaring.

what I don't understand is the tagline on the website-

"an exciting new store that will be the first of its kind anywhere in the nation"

is it an apparel store with a full service bar? I can't figure out the angle on another apparel store that makes it one of a kind.

So, my 1977 Bobcat friend received the $33 then standard fine from the kind policeman for pretending to be an airplane going down the sidewalk--did your preachin or geetarin get you a later day inflated fine?

His friends were always good enough to make sure the police didn't take notice of his preachin or geetarin

Yes, but that is a REAL church, both historic and beautiful. Retail spaces converted to churches are the worst.
