I was just thinking the other day about how cool it would be to have green helmets. I'd even like to see them worn in an occasional home game with the green jersey.

If we added green helmets, we'd have 27 different uniform combinations! Although a lot of those combinations would probably look awful.

In the for what it's worth department: During at least part of Bill Hess' tenure, the helmets were white on the sides with a very large green stripe that covered all of the top of the helmet.

below is the white helmet used in '78 and the green helmet used from '79-'90. It would be the same concept with the current design, just swap all the white with green and vice versa. We've had the same helmet since '96, an alternate wouldn't hurt.








side note- regardless of the record during those years I think the paw print helmets were dope.

I believe Hess brought the design with him from O$U which also included the foam padding that Jim Otis and Willie Lanier of Kansas City wore.  My understanding is that they figured out the foam actually made things worse because the helmets kind of stuck together instead of sliding off each other and actually increased the impact sometimes.  Willie lives here in Richmond so maybe I can get his opinion the next time I see him.

+1.  Granted, I know our record stunk with the green helmet, but let's face it, up until Coach Solich our record stunk for 40 years, with an exception or two, and I have to think there were several different helmets during that time. 

While we're at it, bring back the white PAW on the green helmet!


I'd like to see the Ohio state flag.  That would drive home the "OHIO" message, and would be a nice alternate visual besides just featuring the arch OHIO.

How about this for a thought..... The Columbus Crew sells flags that look like the state of Ohio's flag but is in black, white and yellow. What if the book store started selling flags like that with two different shades of green, white and with the attack cat where the circle should be, basically taking owner ship of the state flag and putting it in our colors. Of course there are two sides to the argument, some might view is as disrespectful to the original flag, where as others might like the idea of "claiming ownership" Thoughts?

I'd view it as disrespectful to the flag. I'd prefer putting the state flag (the real state flag, the one that flies throughout the state, rather than one that would only fly sporadically throughout south east OHIO) on uniforms, helmets, etc.

ask and ye shall receive!!!! ho-lee-crap those are awesome. the thin white stripe is perfect, I thought a white facemask might give it a nice throwback look but I can't argue with the green, its fantastic too.

I hope these are our new every game helmets and not just for special occasions. well done!
