My check is in the mail. Great defense
That QB started at Texas and Nebraska. He looked like an Akron QB against this defense.
Maybe it's because former Akron QB Charlie Frye is his OC.

Third straight great game by the D. Last year at this time it was a dumpster fire but it certainly has carried the team so far. They'll need help from the offense vs ISU next week.

I'm hoping that this this is the game where Kurtis got his sea legs. He hit 60% of his passes for 203 yds and a TD. The first INT was definitely on him but the second was an unlucky bouce off a mishandled throw. No TOs in the second half.

Play calling at crucial times was iffy. There was a fourth down play where the te ran a route short of sticks (by design?) and the three UTM runs on our last possession almost turned into a prevent offense.

Kudos to the KO return team for not trying run any of FAU's kickoffs out of the end zone.

Anybody know what started all the chippiness at the beginning of the game? The announcers said it began during warmups.

Not gonna lie, FAU seemed a little dirty.

Love how Tom Herman wants to say the refs were against them. He might wanna watch the film first.

Via Arkley on Twitter…

Since taking the lead, OU had 13 dives on 17 plays.

3 min left.

I counted 8 more on 9 plays. (Missed some?)

21 / 26.

We won, but I’ve never seen anyone try harder to not lose - what a horrific gameplan. Gutless.

Hahaha.

I definitely think that wasn't Herman's best moments. It was hilarious in the second quarter when they showed him on the sideline having a nuclear meltdown about something. Hilarious.

I think there is something to this given Ohio's QB-Rourke will rarely let you down with a bad decision. That being said, I think that Ohio's defense was so good tonight that i would consider excusing that offensive play calling.

The downside to that kind of conservative play calling is the Owls still had a chance at the end to tie the game. After the great game the defense had, amazing game, it had to stop a final drive at its own 42 to win.

Thanks, Ted. Another good reason why Ohio always tries to bring in two kickers to compete for the job, rather than only one.

I've got to say that I'm impressed with the defense. If they D keeps playing like this, those predictions of 10+ wins are looking good.

I agree and am very encouraged about the season after last night's game. We know how the offense is capable of performing. I believe that it's a matter of (a short) time until Rourke and our playmakers knock the rust off and return to form. The fact that the Allison and the tight ends played well indicates to me that our offense will be special when that happens.

The defense has played well this season and continues to improve. Their play significantly exceeded my expectations last night. Barring injuries, I believe Ohio is well positioned for a very special season, and Iowa State is facing a dangerous team next week.

Pass the green Kool-aid.

ISU, unfortunately, is probably not the team where the offense is poised to suddenly find itself. However, I am starting to side with the optimists and wondering if we might have had a shot at a NY6 bowl if Rourke hadn't had to be taken out against SDSU.

Don’t like the run there
When you have the chance to take the ball out of the MAC player of the years hands in a must convert 3rd down you just gotta do it.
Brutal to watch wasn't it?

Don't understand it either.

A great win and sets the stage for Iowa State at home. Good turnout at the Bobcat Bash (about 200) and an impressive win. One thing I have not seen discussed is how physical our defense was. These guys literally shut down the FAU run game at the line of scrimmage.
If you get a chance watch Tom Herman's presser. You will see the respect he has for our defense and our program.

Wow, gutless? Seems pretty gutsy to put the game in the hands of your defense - a strategy that worked.

Man. What a painful game production with hard to process refereeing. Rourke just a little rusty. No worries from me there. FAU is a dirty squad.

I mean this D is something man. Depth is there as well. Reynolds played some ball in there for Williams.

F-i-v-e yards rushing from FAU. 5.

Exactly, you win with defense, and the offense was not clicking, so lean on what is working!!!

I suppose the answer is somewhere in the middle.I thought the approach was way too conservative but some execution errors were at fault too (the screen pass that could have been a td but at least would have been a big gainer but no receiver looked for the ball). It's great to have faith in your defense, but f*ing around when you're only up by one score is a good way to find out how one fluke play can erase four quarters of dominance... in a game where we already handed them 10 points with turnovers. Losing a game you dominated statistically was a very real possibility (again). What if ty Walton doesn't recover his own muffed punt?

This is as good of a defense (so far) as I’ve seen Ohio have since I started following the program in 2003.

I actually agree with this point. If they had lost everyone would have pointed the blame at Albin. Clearly Albin was thinking the most likely way to lose this game is to make a mistake on offense. It was the only reason that FAU was in the game in the first place.

I’m really surprised that there wasn’t a larger crowd last night. New coach, blowout last week, revenge game, etc and the place looked more than half empty to me. Announced attendance at 17,934. Looked pretty empty.

Fully endorse Albin’s choice. Keep the clock ticking… our D was dominating FAU. Great win!

On the FAU message board, their write up of the game included the following: “ In a game where FAU won the tackling battle 75-52, their linebackers combined for 30 total”.

This may be a whole new way of looking at a loss, I never thought of that.

Interesting comment from an administrator on the FAU fan board:

"I don't know where Ohio's defensive front ranks overall, but honestly they may be one of the best we face all season. Solid."

BTW, their next two games are against Clemson and Illinois.
