Can anyone tell me the purpose of the foam things being given out at the gates? I thought they were purporting them to be Thunder Sticks but they made no noise when banged together. Didn't really see them being waved during the game so I guess they were just souvenirs.

Uh Oh - reminds me of OUr own Thunder Stick controversy thread last year

They are worthless, Anywhere. Might as well everybody clap with one hand. Nothing but extra garbage around the stadiums after the game................

I love our game day atmosphere, and would put it up against anyone in C-USA with maybe the exception of ECU. It has been much improved with the addition of the two video boards in 2010. The Thunderclap and the motorcycle are relics of the old Southern Conference days. The motorcycle may have been a MAC thing, but regardless I wish they would both go away. While we're at it I wish we would ditch the inflatable tunnel too... it looks like it belongs at a county fair instead of a FBS football game.

Marshall and Ohio have now combined for the #12 (11/15/97- 32,012) and #6 (09/15/12- 33,436) highest attended games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. It was 102 people shy of being the fifth highest attended game behind both WVU games, Kansas St and the Virginia Tech game.

I like the Thundersticks, not to be confused with the Thunderclap.

Thunderclap was...uhhh....bad. Seems way too contrived.

I love the general enthusiasm of their fans (great noise on 3rd downs too), but there was a lot left to be desired with the atmosphere. Anyone else think they play waaaaay too many commercials on the videoboard? Felt like I was watching my TV...

Where it's a newer board, I think we're obligated to basically be a whore for advertisements for a little while.

I honestly wish we had the "too many commercials" problem.

Frankly, people need to understand where REVENUE comes from.

It's not coming from some un-named "rich donor", or from some $4.50 season tickets.  It's not even coming from my approximately $150ish season tickets.

It comes from companies latching on to the marketing potential of the crowd.  WE NEED THIS.

I hope we get to the point where we have SO MANY corporate partnerships, that the problem is availability, so we can increase the rates.

For some of the older BA folks  perhaps they will remember Thunderclap Newman and the great song "Something in the Air"..also performed later by Tom Petty
