On one Saturday afternoon MAC schools have beaten a Big Ten School, a Big 12 school and a Big East school. In years past we were lucky if this ever took place within a combined season let alone on a given Saturday afternoon. Too bad we couldn't have swapped a Norfolk State for a Iowa State, Kansas, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Virginia, UConn, Syracuse etc. Imagine where we would be in the polls and the type of attention we would have garnered with that type of win, in addition to beating Penn State and Marshall.

Could be two Big Least schools.  BSU has a lead at home vs. USF midway through the 4th.

AMAZING catch by Ball State in the back corner of the endzone. Cards drive the length of the field and take the lead with about a minute left.

It would've been interesting to see what happened in East Lansing if that Eastern WR didn't drop that touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.

Craziest thing I noticed while looking at some of these scores...how AWFUL the crowds were for these supposedly "marquee" home games....

UCONN @ WMU - 10,328 (really, WMU?)
Kansas @ NIU - 18,374
USF @ Ball State - 16,397
UMASS @ Miami - 15,159 (not a big-time opponent, but it was Homecoming)

If you're a MAC school and get a Big East or Big 12 opponent at home...it should be a sellout. No questions asked. Those crowds are dreadfully small.

It's been great to see our first two crowds be just unbelievable. I was worried about today's crowd being a major disappointment, but it was quite the opposite. When's the last time we had 2 virtual sellouts back-to-back? None that I can remember....

Numbers-wise, it was a big crowd today, but it was a really lame crowd.  Very quiet.  typical for parents weekend I suppose, but a little disappointing nonetheless.  No comparison with the noise level vs. NMSU.

And, oh, Akron trails Tenn by only 7 midway through the 2nd.  No full moon tonight, but maybe the autumnal equinox has something to do with it.

What would they have even gotten loud for? The game was over within 10 minutes. NMSU was competitive for far longer, and I think folks saw them as at least a somewhat reputable opponent. Many fans around me were spending half of the game laughing at or making fun of Norfolk State. Loved the mock applause when they finally scored a TD...

Maybe it was the sedatives the DFC kids had pre-game.

Most of that applause was from NSU fans.  Russ and Rob talked about how a couple busloads made the trip from Va.  Probably parents.

The students will show up as long as we are undefeated.  I am not the only one spewing BCS hype in the student section.  The culture has completely changed for students...  They are leaving early because it is a blowout not because the band is done.  I stayed the entire game today for those wondering, had to get me some Daz.

The band applauded the NSU TD.

In what would be almost as surprisingly bad as Akron winning would be surprisingly good - Toledo is trading the lead with Coastal Carolina.

It's becoming apparent that Terry Bowden knows what he's doing and Akron is progressing pretty fast.  This team can score points.

That may be true, but seriously, more decibels were shed on the first defensive stand two weeks ago than the entire game today.  Again, I understand the parents weekend crowds tend to be more sedate, but it was a bit disappointing.

Agree on the lameness of the crowd.  I liked the size of the crowd, though.

Let's relax just a bit. Interception return for one TD, 1 of the 3 FGs was a result of getting 1 yard in three plays. They broke a running play for a long TD.

Defense is getting shredded to the tune of nearly 400 yards in the first 30 minutes.

That is all well and good but going from a week 1 complete whitewash at home at the hands of UCF to hanging with the VOLS deep into the game in Rocky Top in game 4 is a pretty good indication of significant progress.

We have the same conversation every dad's weekend in the Convo. It is what it is. They're lame, but they buy pricey tickets.

TN 47 - Akr 26.  Akron has now given up 600+ yards of offense so far...

I am, quite happily, hoarse from singing "Stand up and Cheer" and the obligatory "O.. H.. I.. O" that follows.

However, I didn't have much to yell about, until the 3rd Quarter, when the NS defense decided to get 3 15 yard personal foul penalties in a row.. (yes, I know the one in the middle was "offsetting", but they still got it).

That got me yelling a bit, and my wife made me shut up.

Other than that, though, the game was well in hand 4 minutes after the kickoff.

GO BOBCATS!

Given how the MAC played today and how the Big10 (excepting Nebraska and Northwetern) played today, there's an outside chance the Big10 champ will be ranked lower than the big-east champ
