Norfolking way Ohio loses this game.

  Very well done!

A long-time friend, Laura, is a grad of Norfolk State where she was a cheerleader.  A decade or so ago at a dinner, we all agreed to reveal a little-known talent. Mine: a world-class reader of Doctor Seuss.

Laura revealed that she was a college cheerleader and stood up in the restaurant to strutt her stuff.  The words to the cheer went like this:  Norfolk!  Norfolk! We don't smoke, we don't drink, norfolk, norfolk.

Mike,

Coincidently, I just heard that same saying today from a co-worker who is a Virginia Tech grad. I was talking about Ohio's next game and he chimed in with that.

Our injuries at DB concern me more than Tettleton.  Tettleton's injury doesn't sound season ending, and he is tough.  Not concerned about the offense, we will move the ball and aren't turnover prone.  I am scared they might stick around.

The comment was made that 9900 were at akron's first game. I was at the game and I can testify to the fact that only 5000 were there tops. If you saw the way they played you would know why. It is going to take more then bowden and amato to turn that program around.

Our first basketball game will outdraw that.

Greetings Bobcats!!! NSU fan here, looking forward to the game this weekend. We have a few buses of Spartan fans coming up, plus others that are driving on their own. We really don't know which team will show up this week. The team that laid down the first half against Howard, or the one that came back and nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. One of the biggest concerns is special teams, as you guys have already mentioned. We want to be a power run team, but being down last week made us air it out a bit more. Our starting RB is a redshirt freshman, who was recruited as a QB. Our QB is....well, let's just say WE don't know what we're going to get out of him from week to week. LOL Either way, can't wait to check out your stadium and gameday atmosphere.

hahahaha. The first time I heard "Norfolking way" was when we played Rutgers in 2007, though I'm sure someone used it before that. That team had Ray Rice. We've heard it all, and much worse. I think someone even mentioned the "We don't smoke, nor drink Norfolk, Norfolk," chant.

Welcom to Athens.....
I watched your game vs Howard this weekend.  Your right.. Jeckle and Hyde kind a game.   No offense but I kind a hope your first half team shows up this weekend....   That second half team scares me..  Let that team finish the rest of the season after our game.

You'll wonder where in the heck your driving to but then once you pop up over the hill you'll realize why people love this campus..  My kids were sold at first sight...

I wouldn't brag about our gameday atmosphere, but with the Bobcats undefeated there should be a special buzz to the game this Saturday.  I hope you enjoy your time in Athens, it is definitely a campus easy to fall in love with!

Let me say it another way, if TT is much less than 100%, anything can happen to our offense.  A beat up TT who according to Frank "couldn't throw at the end of the last game" doesn't sound real good to me. I hope he only has to play a half or so.

I perused the Norfolk State message board and I have to say they are one of the most level headed fanbases I've come across.  There is a thread regarding the Howard player that was made eligible through a loophole midway through their game Saturday and the overwhelming response was "we still should have beaten them and have no one to blame but ourselves."   Most places can't admit that without any controversies involved.  I can tell you this board wouldn't have handled it so well.  We'd have about ten conspiracy threads in response.

Keep in mind also, that Norfolk State went into Milan Puskar Stadium last year and led the Mountaineers at half, 12-10.  (Granted they were outscored in the 2nd half 45-0, but hey Clemson didnt fare well against WVU either)  My point being, they won't come to Peden and be intimidated.  They're an athletic team that will try to run the ball early.  I'm going to echo what was said throughout this thread.  Get an early lead and force them to go to the air and we should be fine.

With Boykin out, we could see extended action for Daz Patterson. He showed flashes vs. Marshall and the coaches weren't afraid to put him in for key 4th quarter plays. I think he could be a home run threat like Harden and Garrett.

????

We give up nearly nothing on the ground, and our best three corners are out for the season...

We give up over 400 yards passing to Marshall... and you think our BEST gameplan involves forcing them to throw?

And while we're at it, TT and BB are both dinged up.

Just making sure I can still read, because this sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

I'm thinking this game is going to be awfully close.

I hope I'm wrong, but Norfolk is a very good team, and they would love to change what the SI story is about.

I think Norfolk State's win over Liberty speaks volumes.  That's a good road win over a decent team.

I wasn't frustrated until the sentence "win over Liberty speaks volumes" came.  Everyone else made the reasonable statements about trap game, looking past them, etc...Then you came in and laid the hammer down.

Norfolk is not a good team, they are a team Ohio should beat by 30. Forcing them to throw it means we are up by 3-4 scores and they can no longer rely on the run game. Not to mention their QB isn't very good by admittance of their own fans.

Nicely put - same as I was "sold" in the Spring of 1977. I hope we have the same type of game - uncertain  but steady start (NS visitors get tentatively excited) - then domination and destruction through the last 2 1/2 Qtrs.....

Speaking of Liberty (now coached by Turner Gill), the BEST thing about the UB/Kent game the other night was that I got to read this on twitter: "I always thought it was unfair that Turner Gill got demoted to Kansas" (I forget the author).

You realize that Cato leads the nation in passing yards, right?  Cato had 400 yards passing but he needed to throw a ridiculous 65 times to do it. And their fans then complained that the reason they lost was because they couldn't run.   Yes, taking the run away from a balanced offense, which is what Norfolk State wants to be is the way to go.

Derrius may not have a lot of time under his belt but he can play.  I'm not saying it should still be 33 but OUrs is the kind of offense that can be easily directed at low risk throws.  This could be the absolute perfect opportunity to get him the time and success he needs to build a solid base confidence in his game.

When did Tettleton go from "may not play" to "not playing"?
