Solution for the reentry problem: don't miss the halftime show, don't miss even a single snap of the game, don't leave. If you need a drink to make it through the game (I'm not judging, we've all been there), do what OHIO students (and recent alumni) have been doing for generations: sneak it in (this advice works equally well for Peden and for the dorms). If you're afraid you're going to be stopped and searched...well, find a buxom bobcat to help you out.

I'm there for the football game.  The 110 is great, but I don't schedule my day around their performance.  It is faster for me to go outside and fire up the grill than it is to stand in line to purchase hot dogs for my kids.  I set my phone for 20 minutes and make it back for the start of the 3rd.  I'm not a smoker, but that is most of the crowd going out at halftime.  In the OZone it's cool to drink in the stands, but in Section 105, you stick out like some crazy fan standing up on a defensive 3rd down if you're trying to secretly drink.

I'm sorry, but re-entry procedures shouldn't be a priorty. Upgrading concessions and stadium sound and bathrooms, yes, but allowing re-entry is letting concession money walk out the door.

Most pro stadiums do not allow re-entry except in cases of medical emergency... Not sure if most colleges are the same.

WVU recently stopped allowing re-entry. It was (allegedly) done as a way to reduce alcohol related incidents within the stadium, and came in conjunction with initiating alcohol sales within the stadium. IIRC, the thinking was that this would alleviate the "need" for people to get bombed before the game and it eliminates the possibility that they'll go into the parking lot and get loaded at the half. The program was initially successful at reducing alcohol related incidents (and raised their concessions revenues significantly), but I'm not sure what the longer term consequences have been.

If you don't sell beer, people get hammered and sneak it in...  It may not be allowed, but this is done by students.  It isn't hard either...
If you sell beer, people get loaded so they don't have to buy as much at halftime to stay hammered.
Re-entry is just another avenue to stay intoxicated.

Even if you sell alcohol, I would imagine students continue to sneak it to avoid high prices and so they don't have to miss the band.

I don't disagree, and I don't actually think that we have the problem with drunk fans that NFL venues (or WVU) has. I'm not advocating selling alcohol at Peden either, mainly because I think it unlikely in the near-to-medium term. I think that allowing reentry IS letting concessions revenue (for food) walk out the door.

As for the alcohol sales, I don't think you do that with the thought that you're going to make sales to students (you continue with the prefunctory efforts to keep them from sneaking it in, but thats about it). You target that at the successful, income possessing alumni. Sell it on the tower side for $5, $8, whatever price, and include some microbrew options (JackieO's? Great Lakes?), get another couple thousand dollars in revenues per home game. To be clear, I do not expect alcohol sales at Peden and don't think it would be a major money maker in any case, not the way I've laid it out. Just musing out loud here.

If you really want to make concessions at Peden memorable, you outsource different concessions around Peden to different local favorites.  One stand is Goodfellas Pizza, another is O'Bettys etc...  JackieO's and Great Lakes selling beer.

That could help build a very special (local) football enviornment and I really think it'd be pretty easy to do.  Any smart local entrepreneur would jump into this head first.  They could make a ton of money without too much extra effort (with proper cooperation from Ohio athletics) and push their brands.

Plus the fans benefit.

You're basically describing a mall food court... except the stands are all over the place, right?

The issue I see is the revenue leaves the Athletic Dept budget and goes to the local community.

I'm totally fine with that, if it helps with Town and Gown relations, but I would like to see the money go back into the Athletic Budget.

Perhaps we can rent each stand for X dollars per game, and that way the variability of the revenue is no longer an issue, and you no longer have the costs involved related to food preparation/storage/distribution.

Works for me.

Go Bobcats!  SELL ME AN $8 BEER!!  I'll only drink 2 maximum, anyway, since I'm old now.

As well two sides to that "coin". If the fee to sell is to high then not profitable for outside vendor - one of the main reason's food at most sporting/entertainment venues sucks.........as well as service........

I think it simply comes down to infrastructure. The folks working concessions are reasonably hard-working and friendly. They're not trying to make a line 30 deep. But, they're handcuffed with 1920's storage rooms and concourses that are barely 10 feet wide. I don't blame the people, I blame the stadium!

I thought a sign of maturity was that we no longer blamed inanimate objects for negative outcomes!

Just sayin'
