Never thought I'd see this happen to our football program in my lifetime.

I wouldn't be so sure.  I suspect we'll get passed up by some other teams and remain stuck at 26.  This was not a good win.

People keep saying this, but we climbed to #26 last week after what many fans on this board considered to be another bad win. At the end of the day, it's about winning and I think it will be tough for voters to ignore 7-0, at least in the AP Poll.  Enjoy the win...we don't control the conference schedule and the caliber of opponent we play.

While the score will hurt us, the SI article will garner us a few votes in itself.

Really?! At what point are people on this board going to just enjoy the ride? Either Texas A&M or Louisiana Tech are going to lose today -- that alone is going to open the door to #25 for us.

Sometimes I feel like people on BA are afraid of a Top 25 ranking. Is there some kind of superstition that I don't know about?

Look, I know that we did not have convincing wins over UMass, Buffalo or Akron. But we won. We were the better team on the field for those games. That's all that matters. It's "just the MAC," but it is still a HUGE accomplishment to go 7-0.

Go OHIO!

I agree it was a very ugly win, as were the prior 2 games. I understand the injuries have hurt. But ... the last 3 games we've allowed an average of 31 points per game, almost 1500 yards (close to 500/game) against teams that have a cumulative record of 2 - 17 (both wins were over Morgan State by Akron and Buffalo).  That isn't going to impress many people in my opinion. One can only hope we have some (injured) guys back for Miami and more each week thereafter

I suppose that in all fairness I should recognize that 'Kron has taken giant steps towards respectability under Bowden but to play such a close game on your home turf against a 20.5 point underdog really. really worries me.

Those guys better study the hell out of every millimeter of film they have on the Foreskins and come out ready to play on the 27th.

What more do you want? Our defense is depleted...we have a QB banged up...and a starting TE that is done for the year.

OHIO is 7-0 and getting national attention every week.

We are knocking on the TOP 25 door.

Again...what more do you want?

To not be within one possession of Buffalo, UMass and Akron at the end of the game.

If that's asking too much of the 26th ranked team in the nation, I don't know what to tell you.

You guys win..I give up.
I'll just drink a beer and enjoy the fact that OHIO is 7-0. Hopefully, there are some more Bobcats fans out there doing the same thing.

Everyone who has played UMass, Buffalo and Akron has been the better team in every game (excluding Morgan State).

Hey, I'm sure all Ohio fans/alumni are excited about the 7-0 record. But anyone who watches/attends the games sees that we're very fortunate (i.e. lucky) to be where we are. Thankfully our schedule has worked in our favor with so many weak teams so far. I can tell you that Frank Solich isn't content with the recent wins and how we've executed.

You are right, but I think I look at who've we've beaten and how narrowly we beat them by and it makes me a little nervous about where we are in the grand scheme of things.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take 7-0 any day but I also look at who've we've beaten lately and how they've done since.  For example, look at what UMass. has done since Ohio beat them-they got smacked by Western Michigan last week 52-14.  Right now, Northern Illinois is clobbering Buffalo 42-3.  To be honest, the way we're playing right now, I think Northern Illinois would have their way with us. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Not good wins>good loses.

I will bet you 1 million trillion dollars we are ranked next week.  Do not care if we deserve it.

We may squeak into the top 25 this week, but being idle next week may allow someone to jump us.

Where was Texas Tech sitting?  They're DESTROYING West Virginia right now.

Don't get me wrong.  7-0 is a fine start but I don't think this squad is playing their best football.  It reminds me of the last basketball season when we were all hyped up over an 11-0 run and then the wheels fell off.

I don't want to see the wheels fall off.

These last three opponents are teams we should have blown out by scores of 48-14 but we've let them hang around by getting too cute.  Last week it was passing on the gimme field goal.  This week it was putting in your subs while the outcome was still in doubt.

I desperately want to see these guys beat the living snot out of somebody other than Norfolk State.  Fiami would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

There is absolutely NOTHING to celebrate today with regard to this team. Another ugly win, at home, against one of the worst teams in the country.

P.S. NIU is beating Buffalo 42-3.

What QB is banged up? Not TT.  Anyone at the game, or who watched today could clearly see he was 100%. All you had to do was see his more aggressive running; not tentative like a few games back. Losing Jordan Thompson hurt but as the announcers stated today Troy Hill may be a better receiver given his height (and I agree with that -- 5 receptions today and a great TD he pulled in) so I don't see us losing anything at TE. Both Thompson and Hill had strengths in different areas IMO.

Injuries? Other teams have them too. The game goes on. Buffalo was without their top RB against us and it went down to the wire.

I already stated the facts of the last 3 games ... 31 ppg given up, 500 yards/game given up by D against rather weak opponents. Take Buffalo as an example .. close to the end we win by 6. NIU is blowing them out today 42 -3 with almost all of the 4th quarter to go.

I think those teams (Buffalo, Akron, UMass) all had some of their best games when they played us. They played UP to our level. As a poster stated earlier -- we have been playing DOWN to some of our weaker opponents levels. That is concerning, I agree. We have the tougher half of our MAC schedule coming after the bye next week. I hope the coaches and players will figure out how to come out on the field with their BEST effort each week -- regardless of the opponent.

Having said that, we are 7-0 and most casual football fans (heck, most AP voters) are going to look no further than that.

I can't stand WVU and I hope this blunts the Geno Smith for Heisman talk or that's who the Browns should be drafting with the No.1 pick talk I hear on sports talk radio.  As usual, WVU is overrated.

Ohio 79, Baylor 62, Iowa State 54, TCU 50, Michigan State 49, Arizona State 39, Washington 39, North Carolina State 17, Nebraska 5, Arizona 4, Duke 3, Tennessee 3, Texas Tech 2, Tulsa 2, Penn State 1, Northwestern 1

TCU at Baylor

Michigan State lost to Iowa

Iowa State lost a close one to KSU - very respectable

Arizona State beat Colorado (1-5)

USC at Washington tonight

NC state has a bye

So maybe the winner of TCU vs Baylor can jump us, but after that I
think we should be okay - my guess is #25

We've reached 7 wins with probably 75% of our starting roster.  I'll take it; it's too long of a season not to.  We do need to play better, but this staff has my confidence that they'll figure something out and we'll beat Miami.

#22 plays #23 tonight, one of them will lose. The loser will not  stay ranked higher than a 7-0 team, regardless of margin of victory vs weaker opponents. The voters only really care about how you win when they're looking at who should be #1 vs who should be #2, when you get down towards 25 nobody gives a rip.
