Does that mean they will actually build a Tim Horton's in Athens? Not that I am craving it, but it just seems weird that a sponsor doesn't even have a presence in the area.

Awesome!

So let's take part in that 24-hour basketball tipoff next season. Play the 8AM game and give free coffee and Timbits to everyone

In related news, Peden Stadium's field will be extended to 110 yards and from here on out we are known as the Ohio Roughriders.

And every last one of our 17 players can be running full tilt at the snap

I absolutely love Tim Hortons! I wish they had some in Athens.

Being from Buffalo, there is literally one every other block there it seems. Used to go there everyday before school for a hot chocolate and a donut.

So it;s the MAC in general, plus an additional deal for us and a couple more schools?

That's what I took from it. Official Corporate Partner of the MAC AND Official Coffee for us, Miami and CMU.  Tim Horton's was already the Official Coffee of Toledo, BGSU and Buffalo.

I don't understand why they would go ahead and sign with us in addition to the MAC when there are no Tim Hortons down here in Athens.  Maybe they see Ohio as representing the entire state?

Why can't we have smaller company instead of a major corporate one that is the "Coffee of" other schools.  Maybe we can get Jolly Pirates to take the reign of Ohio U.  And if you are from the Newark area, you know damn well that is some good coffee and donuts than these big corporate names.  Also, get the smaller local businesses of Athens to partner with Ohio U like have Court Pizza or another local joint be the "Pizza of Ohio U" and so on and so on.  I am tired of these big names saying they are the whatever of Ohio U when they are the whatever for other schools, especially that crappy school up here in Central Ohio where they think they own the State of Ohio.  I have to admit I was for this with Tim Hortons until I saw they are already partnered with Ohio State.

Was that very poor sarcasm? If so, my overreaction should be tempered.

That school up north is not Al Qaeda.

Are you serious that Ohio should turn down a sponsorship opportunity because they also sponsor that school up north?

Should Central Michigan have refused the sponsorship because they also sponsor Michigan? And Michigan State?

What about our radio contract. It's through a corporation that has contracts with other schools. Guess what other schools they broadcast?

Sometimes I think my wife is absurd and unreasonable to think that Ohio fan needs to get over himself. Right now, not so much.

I think DFC and Big Pete need to calm down a little here.  I was simply stating that there is nothing wrong with maybe reaching out to smaller businesses around the Athens area to have them sponsor Ohio.  Excuse me, Ohio U.  If Hortons wants to sponsor us, so be it, if a radio broadcast wants to sponsor us, so be it.  But nothing wrong with trying to see if these smaller shops want someway get with the athletic program and sponsor or advertise.  Maybe they do, I am not sure but, if not, why not?  I am trying to think outside the box.  Plus, anything to do with OSU makes me upset and if you lived 30 minutes from that, you would agree.  All you hear is OSU this and OSU that.  Did I call them Al Queada?  Not that I remember but nothing gets by Big Pete.

I think the efforts with small businesses are very visible at OHIO games.  Don Wood, the Local Citizens Bank branches, one of the real estate companies.  We may not be big time, but most of those businesses realize the best way to reach the largest possible audience in the region is to make your presence felt at an OHIO Football game. At the same time... we're not in a position to turn down sponsorship opportunities, and we sure as hell can't turn anyone down just because they sponsor the evil empire.  That would leave us with nothing BUT the local small businesses.  Nationwide is on Board, even though they are a cowtown institution.  Wendy's (at least locally) is on board. another cowtown institution.  Winning is good. New sponsorship is good, more attendance is good.  Bobcat club is great. All these things get us closer to being self-sustaining.
