1. There are some really uptight people on this thread.

2. LOVED the OU / OH Yeah cheer on Saturday. Have never been a big fan of the cheer myself but the way you guys used it to get the stadium to interact with each other was brilliant, and it was the best and most fitting the cheer has ever been.

3. Don't overthink it. You're getting a lot of opinions ("it has to be done every game during pregame, and at the start of the 1st and 3rd quarters, and let's make sure it's when TV is back from commercials, and don't disturb the offense, and blah, blah, blah"). Organic cheers are the ones that survive. Finding 2 or 3 appropriate times a game to do it is great, driving it into the ground will make everyone like it about as much as the wave.

4. The OH-IO ship has sailed. That's OSU's cheer. We're clever enough to come up with something that can be our own.

5. For those aching to have OHIO incorporated in a cheer, you're aware of the O *clap, clap, clap* H *clap, clap, clap* etc. cheer, right? I know this will be shocking to 99% of you but instead of shouting O!!!!! at the end of that, you're actually supposed to say "OHIO!!!!" (which if you think about it makes more sense, since we're cheering for the school OHIO, not the letter O).

Agree with all of that except #5. I've also had a quibble with that one (maybe because I've always said "O.") Yes, OHIO makes sense, but so does the letter O, since that stands for Ohio. And if you listen to any crowd doing that chant, the final sound certainly sounds like one syllable (the letter O) versus three syllables.

The 110 has been saying OHIO at the end for as long as I've been in the band, and I'm sure it's been that way a while.

I was in the 110 too. And I said O. I don't recall any lessons on the matter. But if there was one, I missed it.

I'm telling you guys now, "OU Oh Yeah" is putting the last nail in the coffin to being referred to locally as "OHIO", and perhaps nationally.

No, it's not. You forget there are more chants, some that say Ohio.

Sounds to me like you owe some belated laps for being wrong then.

It's the same chant as the conversion into the Diamond OHIO during pregame... So unless you predate 1967, I'm having a hard time believing that you said O at the end of that.

Yes, this is correct.  That's the way it was done when I was in school back in the days of Rev. Cutler.  I don't know exactly when the OHIO at the end morphed into OHHHHHHHHHH.  I still say it the old-fashioned way, and I've noticed that some other folks who graduated in the 1960s and '70s do the same.  Perhaps, the Ozone could encourage folks to go back to that way of doing it, which would help the branding and help balance the OU-OH Yeah initiative.

Branding is merely repetition of a title. Enjoy being lousy, just a party-school "OU" when you could be OHIO.

Well, it's at least better than doing the A&M cheer and adding "U." on the end.  That was the worst idea ever.

+1...x 8 billion

I understand why you say that, but do you understand how mad that made OSU fans?

But, why did some fans do it at basketball games this past season when OSU was not in house?  Double stupid.

I always thought the band said hiOOOOOOOOO. I remember because it reminded me of Phil Hartman's Ed McMahon impression. That's how I do it now.

Mid 80s actually. And as I said, I never had a lesson on the matter, and did, in fact, say "O," so I'll accept the laps. Maybe I'm just stubborn, but I don't really see the significance between the two. Most of the crowd can't really distinguish the difference in sound, and either one represents us.

Plus, I can imagine how people will respond if a group of "cheer police" begin trying to make people say Ohio instead of O. The whole thing comes off a bit ridiculous, don't you think?

I was giving you a hard time more than anything. Hence the big smiley when I requested laps.

The Brownie Explosion coffee is kicking in...

When the offense comes on to the field (with Blankenship): GO-O-O-O ... BEAU-HIO!

I just remember being told my freshman year that it was OHIO by my section leaders, so you could be right in that no one really knows the true answer, haha.  And I must agree about the cheer police...a tad silly.

Okay, this thread is really starting to annoy me. I appreciate all our fans, and all the support they give the OZone, but why is it that we try to do something good and people still complain? We did something that's never been done to that magnitude before, something PRETTY MUCH EVERYBODY admitted was amazing, and yet, there are still people complaining and whining that it's "not Ohio." You're right, it's not Ohio, we have other cheer for that which have been mentioned. This is something that can unify the stadium (which it did) and bring together the Ohio University community as a whole. Please, stop complaining, and lets all actually just enjoy something special which has been brought to this great university. Can't we all just get along?

Bottom Line: Saturday's cheer was GREAT. The best cheer I've ever seen in Peden Stadium or any MAC stadium. We are Ohio and we are OU...why can't we be both?

As long as this university exists, students and locals will always refer to it as OU. And that's OK. As long as they're supporting the program, why do we care about what our own fans call us?

I don't mind being called "OU". As long as its no "Ohio U"...I'm happy.

You share some responsibility in this? +1. Absolute friggin home run. Nailed it. Peden was ROCKIN'. I've never experienced the two sides of the stadium (which do feel a bit stand-offish) come together in unison so quickly, efficiently and emotionally.

Whoever put this together gets my nomination for Dan Lowe OZoner of the year.

Keep up the good work.

Bump

So what's the plan for Saturday. We need a big round of this before game start.................

I think right after the redchickens come onto the field, just after their fight song dies down.
