Penalties have been a problem the last half of season. In the first six games we had 26 penalties for 225 yds, or 4.3 penalties and 37.5 yds per game. We were 5-1 at that point. In the last five games we've had 37 penalties for 325 yds, or 7.4 penalties and 65 yds per game. We're 3-2 over that span.

That's because the Zips can't draw flies even when they're winning. Shame too, great location right off the freeway but adjacent to downtown, fantastic stadium - probably the best in the MAC. In-laws live in the 'burbs and this is usually a no brainer for the wife and I but alas, we're out of town for the holiday.

Agree about the stadium. This will be the 5th or 6th trip.

"But adjacent to downtown." Not sure what that means but but normally means a negative. The development in downtown is just short of amazing. Main Street has been totally redone, lots of new apartments west and slightly south of campus, and new bars and restaurants are slowly being opened.

Means exactly what it says. "*GREAT LOCATION*"...right off the freeway but near the city center, unlike the Rubber Bowl. Akron is a great city. Not sure what your takeaway was. The "but" was indicative that often something that close to an exit isn't necessarily near the Central Business District of any given city.

Great stadium.

I've always wondered who is up in those suites?

The annual debt load on that stadium - about $5 million.

MAC caliber stands, Big 10 press tower. And who is in the suites? I can tell you from personal experience, no one.

A few years ago I recall Lebron was building part of his iPromise stuff there in a vacant level.

Pretty wild they built all this stuff.

Amenities:

Capacity of 30,000, official sellout is 27,881
Club Seats: 522 (individual, partially-covered chairback seats).
Loge Seats: 152 (open-air, but covered - 38 boxes, four seats per box).
Suites: Total of 17 - 16 private suites with 16 seats per suite; one 52-seat "Presidential Suite" for the University.
Three elevators with an additional service elevator.
State-of-the-art video board with scoreboard and dynamic sound system. Also there are ribbon boards to compliment the main video board on both sides of the stadium.
Number of Rest Rooms: 21 (heated, ADA compliant, baby-changing stations) - 11 on the west side and 10 on the east side.
Number of Full-Service Concession Locations: 10 - 5 on each side with a food court area.
Number of Merchandise Locations: 2 - Full Team Shop on the west side and one merchandise location on the east side.
Number of Ticket/Will Call Locations: 3 - Full Ticket Office and auxiliary location on the west; 1 auxiliary location on the east.
Press Tower Levels:
Level 1: Concourse (rest rooms, concessions, souvenirs, tickets) and House of LaRose Lobby (elevator entrance).
Levels 2-4: up to 80,000 square feet of academic space to be used six days a week by the University and athletics. Levels 3 and 4 have already been programmed for the Sport Science and Wellness Education Department, which began conducting classes in January 2010.

Level 6: Suites.
Level 7: Montrose Auto Group Press Level.

I remember after the ISU game TA was so proud of the virtually penalty-free game, and said it was a key to our victory. What happened?

Akron won the MACCG back in 2005 and Akron is like the bottom feeder in the MAC.

I legit don't think we'll win the conference in my lifetime.

Hey, we may get a pointless bowl game win and may have a pointless ten win season.
All the players can feel good about their accomplishments and stuff.

Do our players even know the last time we won the conference?

Moving forward 1968 should be on the player's helmets and uniforms until we win the conference.

I think "and" would have been the more appropriate word in this case since being near downtown is an additional plus to being near Route 8.

But is generally used to introduce a phrase or clause contrasting with what has already been mentioned. (with contrasting being the operative word).

Regardless, having a nice on campus stadium is a real plus compared to the WPA project out by the airport and shared with the Akron City Series teams.

Stadium is in what is now a very dangerous area of town. Lots of gunplay on almost a nightly basis.

One of my favorite Bobcat sports memories was sitting in the visiting AD's booth at InfoCision Stadium several years ago, with the Ohio coaches in the booth to our left and the Akron VIP booth to the right. There was only one VIP - Gerry Faust - and he spent most of the game with his head in his hands. (Ohio won 30-3.) In the coaches booth, Tim Albin was literally bouncing off walls and beating on the glass when we had execution issues on offense. I've never heard that level of swearing anywhere.

Have you ever been to an actual football practice at the collegiate or NFL level? Let alone an actual game. Could be that you will hear an occasional word or two, you are not familiar with.

Once I was watching practice with Jim Grobe. We were standing on the west sideline. On the field the various units were going through drills. One player was running laps.

I asked Jim what misdeed brought on those laps. He smiled and waited till the player was within earshot and then said, "He said the wrong word." The player's sheepish look was priceless.

Someone on our sideline cussed out whoever committed the late hit out of bounds loud and clear on the CMU ESPNU feed.

"What are you doing?!! Stupid (effin) idiot!"

It could, if they could figure out how to build a program around it. First step is hiring a coach and actually keeping him.

Yes. Can we also agree that a nice stadium is not what attracts fans to football games?

Maybe they could work on a Ted Lasso situation with the mens soccer team.
