I doubt much of that comes from the university that’s not paid back by donors but I may be wrong

It’s a waste of money anyway and shows the state of the new college athletics landscape.

It's not so much WHERE the money comes from as what it's used for. It's appalling that these donors didn't give that $77 million to programs that help the needy in the state.

I would agree with this idea. A little proportionality would be nice! Maybe a few million for the coach, and $50 million for job training programs to lift the poor out of poverty, and the remaining millions for your favorite charity.

I really don't care in the least where these donors spend their money. What I do care about is whether it is tax deductible. To the extent that it is tax deductible, it forces government to pay for part of it.

The team is 6-4 and not a hint of scandal. Is the football program that important to pay 77M to get rid of the coach? Not to mention what you have to pay the new guy. If I had 10B I wouldn’t pony up for this. Any donor that would is a lunatic. If I were an alum they would never get another penny from me.

You don't offer the man the contract they did with the buyout they did unless they knew they could pay their way out of it.

The bigger question is: who do they get next? Because they're also going to have to pay THAT coach's buyout to get him to leave the current school, PLUS his new salary, PLUS new assistants salaries'.

Dan Lanning at Oregon is being mentioned, but Oregon put a hefty buyout on his contract after they lost two head coaches in a row to other schools (Taggart and Cristobal).

Mike Elko is the former DC at Texas A&M and has completely turned Duke around. He might be the cheapest option.

Until we know more about them, the only thing we do know is that they gave $77 million to get a football coach fired. That money would have helped a lot of people who need it badly.

They already have the top or one of the top NIL programs in the nation. Remember the name calling Saban did because he was losing kids to A&M on their way to the #1 recruiting class in 2022.
