Sorry this isn't aimed at everyone but come on people... the lack of outrage on this board is sad. That was a horrible loss, especially the way it happened. To those who replied in the open letter to Coach Solich and TT thread, I agree that without their efforts, especially Frank, we wouldn't even be in a situation where we could be pissed about dropping from the rankings. I mean that unto itself is amazing for Bobcat football. And yes we still have a shot at a great record and perhaps one of the best years ever at the school. But why settle with just being happy at that? We had a once in a lifetime chance at a truly magical year. One that with upcoming changes to the BCS probably may never happen again.

The bottom line is that a somewhat questionable decision was made to take one more shot at a TD instead kicking a gimme and going to OT.  (I am not a coach and I don't have a playbook so I can't fully second guess but as I said in the stands in Oxford, I kick there 1000 times.) TT then makes a huge mental error in not getting rid of it. A terrible decision. I am beyond upset and all of you should be too. That doesn't take away from the fact that without Frank we aren't in this situation and without TT, probably don't even get down the field. At the same time, show from passion people!

I have heard many of you b#$ch and moan for years about tOSU on this board. If this happened to them, their fans would be burning down Columbus. I am not saying that is the right thing to do, nor do I want the truly fanatical approach that Buckeye fans have. I am just angry that we, as Bobcat fans, can't learn to expect more, take part in more and give more. We have had great crowds this year and recently yes but not at the level of commitment of those at other schools. I mean they are giving away free tickets to BSU and Kent for crying out loud. We were a top 25 team. Do you think Texas does that?

I am prOUd of our school and all that Coach Solich, his staff and players, and the athletic department folks have done to bring Ohio football to the level that it is. Horrible decisions happen, as do bad losses. I am just mad that we haven't gotten past our simply "happy to be not horrible" mentality as a fan base. Personally, I am sick as to what might have been. Sorry had to vent.

I know the tickets are for away games. How many free tickets did Texas give out for its Big 12 road schedule or any other of the Top 25 schools?

We just blew a huge opportunity. We may have not remained undefeated all season, but should  have not lost to Miami.

I think I saw one poster say it was good we aren't in the top 25 in more. I wonder how much these people really want the program to succeed. 

Fans should be very disappointed the next couple of weeks. Hopefully the team won't and can still manage a 1 loss season.

This isn't a "happy to be horrible" mentality, as you put it.  This is showing a level of maturity that you'll never find at a Big Tedozen school, or a Big Twelv school or an SEC school.  As you said, going for a TD was "questionable" -- which means it could've been right or it could've been wrong.  Some (like me) think it was the right thing to do.  You're inside the ten, you've got nine seconds left -- time for one more play -- and you're on the road, which usually means go for a win first instead of OT.  Yes, it didn't work, but that doesn't make it a wrong call.  As for the execution, yes T2 made a really bad decision.  But figuratively hanging him from a goalpost -- which would happen at most of the AQ schools -- isn't the solution.  Like you, I was really pissed at his performance; my wife and son have told me they've never heard me carrying on like I did after last night's game.  But you know, he's 20 or 21, human and is entitled to make mistakes.  He's also our best chance for taking care of last year's unfinished business this year and even next.  I'm sure he's feeling worse about yesterday than we ever could, so why rip him a second a**hole here?  Would it do him any good?  I know it wouldn't do me any good.  So why be one of those friggin morons that show up on others' websites, sports talk shows or in the Dispatch?  I understand your need to vent.  But I think the posters on this site tend to vent in more constructive ways than publicly ripping players.  We're still in the MAC race; yesterday wasn't the end of everything.

As for giving away free tickets, why not?  If you're not selling them anyway, why not encourage people to show up for a mid-week night road game in November and a game the day after Thanksgiving that'll likely be in the snow?  If we have a hundred or so people show up because of it, great.  That may be ten percent of the crowd.  AQ schools don't give away tix because they don't have to -- they have a large enough alumni base and/or alumni who are more willing to travel to such games (of course, they don't play such games -- they play on Saturdays, generally).  I'd like to see them maybe use some of the allotment to send the 110 to the games, if for no other reason than to play in the stands.  That would be really cool.

I was with a dozen others who were all at their 1st Ohio football game in 3 decades (all either alums or parents of Alums who live near Oxford).

One, my brother and also alum, said after the last play - "That was unacceptable, just plain unacceptable". He nailed it.

That was one of the top blunders in the history of the program - Especially since it happened at Fiami........... 

 

I don't think there was a huddle.  We were out of timeouts and T2 just ran up and clocked the ball.  The play was signalled in from the sideline. 

"Unacceptable" is an objective statement based on the facts of the instance. Nobody said anything about firing anybody (at least not Frank).

What I'm going to miss is the hoopla talk of BCS possibilities, rankings, media buzz, etc..  Considering the BSC stuff was probably a pipe dream, this team still has every other goal out in front of them.  We can still get the buzz and ranking back with a flawless finish (4-0) and probably still get the exact same bowl game we would've got had we won Saturday.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as bumped as I've ever been as an OHIO fan, just trying to get back to even-keel as we start another work week.  But I must admit, the hype of being undefeated, ranked, etc... is what was making this all too fun.  Hate that we lost all that stuff and was hoping it would come down to @Kent State and Detriot.  Yet still, the realistic goals are all still there.

Regarding running one more play with 9 seconds left -- I think you could poll all 124 FBS football coaches, and maybe three or four would tell you they'd kick in that situation.  Maybe.  It could be zero.

Tettleton made a mistake, he knows it.  The guy has earned the right to make some mistakes.  I think a supportive fan base in this situation is better than an outraged one.

The top 25 rankings and BCS hoopla -- I don't know.  That was never what it was about for me personally.  If Ohio wins out, probably Miami drops another one to Kent and that would put the Bobcats in the MAC championship game.  Win there and it's back in the top 25, but more importantly, win there and you're 12-1 with a conference championship, and that is a great, great achievement.

But first -- beat EMU.  The best news is we only have to wait a few more days for the next game.

Bingo!  We aren't those fans and I am d%$# proud of it.  The people you see showing restraint here are the same ones who have been patient with this program for years and kept supporting it with season tickets, gifts to the OBC, etc.  We have yet to attract, hopefully never will, the fans who have invested nothing but a Saturday afternoon in front of the TV and are usually the same ones going bananas in the papers and on message boards about "their" team.

It'll be OK, I promise. We've survived much worse.

There were some tough plays at the end of that game.  Tough to watch for sure.  But I believe in Solich and his staff's passion and commitment, and Tettleton and his fellow players' passion and commitment.  Burning couches and ripping on people on talk radio and the internets just ain't for me.

Actually a grounding penalty would have ended the game, per the 10 sec run-off rule that the NCAA has.  Any play had to be a 1 step or 3 step drop to the corner of the endzone, where ball is either caught up high, or a back shoulder throw, or incomplete.

I could not agree more. The loss at Miami falls not only on Tettleton, but on the coaching staff, Solich, the o coordinator especially. THEY HAVE TO REMIND TETTLETON THEY HAVE NO TIMEOUTS LEFT.  Just an awful way for undefeated season to end.
