There is a reality that OU will miss a bowl game....  Wouldn't that be an absolute shame?!?!?!?

I don't mean to sound snarky, but no. I don't think it would be a shame for this team to miss a bowl opportunity. These last few games we have not earned the right to be in a bowl game, and I absolutely do not want to see us in a bowl game only to get embarrassed like we did last night.

Step off from that ledge my friend.  Shame on you. To talk as if this team has been here before many times.  We should not go to a bowl, because we are better than what?  Yes, a MAC Championship is what we really really need.  However, winning two consecutive bowl games is something we've never done before and needs to keep happening for us to get to the next level.  Shame on you.  We don't deserve it????  This is our winningest group of seniors in the program's history.  And you are saying to take away their bowl game, because you feel embarrassed by losing to a good Bowling Green team.

You sound like an OSUck fan.  Be better than that.

You're way off. I'm not on any kind of ledge. I'm simply stating that, as of now, this time doesn't deserve a bowl game. That aren't playing to that level. They don't get bowl consideration just because they're a winning group of seniors. They have to earn it, continuously. Right now, today, they don't deserve it. And don't misunderstand. I didn't say I was embarrassed. I'm saying the team embarrassed themselves last night, and my guess is, every single player on that team would agree.

I've been behind them for a long time, and I will continue to be behind them. But I'm not going to talk bowl games when this team is not ready for that. And if we manage to stumble to an 8-4 finish and still get a bowl game, it will be anti-climatic in the least.

Do you understand that ever since we started going to bowl games we've become relevant?  It's not a coincidence.  And I don't care what you think of this team right now.  They've busted their butts to get to 8-2 and have gotten us much closer to making Ohio University a household name.  It doesn't matter what our record is.  They've done enough to get to a bowl and deserve it. It brings more attention to better recruits and gives OUr university more exposure. Be happy.

Believe me, I don't care what you think either. And unless you're employed in some speaking capacity for the whole team, your opinion is no better than mine. It seems I have to repeat myself: I am not on a ledge. I am not overly emotional about this team. Not. at. all. My only point is the team is not playing well. Not well enough to talk about bowl possibilities. Maybe they'll turn that around before the end of the season. I will be pulling for them. I have full confidence in the players. I realize many of them are out with injury. I have full confidence in the coaches. They have earned the right to be trusted.

None of that changes the observation that the team is not playing well. If you don' t like that, fine.

1. No defending the punting.....
2. Aside from the punting, I thought it actually was a pretty even football game...
3. Many posters have gone off on the defense. I'm not one of them. I thought they actually held up pretty well last night.
4. The two offensive drives that we scored on were beauties and textbook...
5. Moral of the story, the BG punting game put us in lousy field position all night.
6. I also don't buy into the lack of "effort" BS either. Take away the punting gifts to BG and that could have easily been an OHIO 14-7 win and the masses would be hurmphing about what a "great" effort we gave.

I agree with your points, but I want to point out the only thing different about the two drives - they were at the beginning of the two halves, when Ohio was freshest. In my opinion other than the punting, the big difference was that Ohio was playing the third game in 12 days, and they just weren't completely recovered, so they got beaten in the trenches as the game wore on. It was a lack of effort, it was just tired legs.

They will get normal rest from here on out. This was a problem that has concerned me from the time the schedule was announced, and my worst fears materialized. I think the mid-week games provide a great recruiting tool, but I wish the MAC office would try to make sure that if you have teams playing 3 games in 12 days, both teams are the same.
It's water under the bridge, now. Now it's time to take it to Ball State and Kent. There's nothing to lose at this point.

I agree about the 3 games in 12 days but it came as a result of having 14 days off before Miami. A game Ohio lost. That was the damaging game. If Ohio had won that one, they could have afforded a loss to BG. IMO, BG will lose to Kent St. and Ohio was always going to have to beat Kent St. to win the East.

I agree, Ted. The Miami game was a disappointment.

I would also add that, for whatever reason, it's a lot easier to see "tired" in your foe than your own team. Others saw the same thing, but they put it in different words, talking about a lack of energy or a lack of effort, but I think my description is more accurate. I think they wanted it, but kind of hit the wall.
