THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.  BEAT BALL STATE.

Does anyone have any memory of the last game at all?  I don't.

Seeming bad news:  From the way that Tremayne Scott walked out for his Sr. Day introduction, it doesn't look like he'll be back anytime soon.  Darn.

From what I recall this was one of those "buffalo" like games.  We just could not seem to get things going last year.  If I recall, This was also one of those game with quick turnaround.   During the game it always felt we would pull away but it just never happened.    Sorry but with my failing memory this is the best I can do..

I think Monroe was referencing the last game, as in the BG game, not Ball State from last year, as if to say, let the past be the past. I could be wrong.

Never a good year when you lose to the RedChickenHearted.

However, if Ohio can keep it to two MAC loses this season, Miami and BG, that is better than 2011 results of losing to BSU at home on HOMECOMING and the Bulls away.  So win these final two and the OHIO program has made a year over year improvement in the non-conference results and close losses to better opponents than 2011.

Apparently Boykin was hurt in the game, per Arkley. He says that makes 13 Bobcats out for the season, which I think includes Tremayne Scott:

Ryan Boykin - RB
Matt Pritchard - LG
Sam Johnson - RG
John Tanner - TE
Jordan Thompson - TE
Landon Smith - WR
Mario Dovell - WR
Sebastian Smith - WR
Tremayne Scott -DE
Xavier Hughes - S
Jamil Shaw -CB
Travis Carrie - CB
Josiah Yazdani - K

If he isn't counting Scott, I must have missed someone. Also, two others are not playing for non-injury reasons, Mike Lucas - LG, and Octavius Leftwich - CB.

When you breakdown the number of starters and second teamers lost for the season it becomes even more impressive that we have been able to achieve an 8-2 record.
With 2 games left the obvious question is whether the troops can rally enough effort, toughness, & determination to finish strong.
The satisfaction and sense of accomplishment will be greater in winning these last 2 regular season games considering this injury situation than if there were no injuries.
It will be interesting to see how we play in ALL phases of the game Wed.

I know the players will give their all for four quarters.  That is all I ask.  For me that equates to finishing strong .  This is a Solich team.  Effort will be there, toughness will reflect their coach. It will be interesting if the fans can finish strong.  Will there be a meltdow n every time there is adversity.  Do the fans need a big win every week to be behind the team?  If coach finishes 9-3, will a now spoiled group of Ohio fans decide they can do better.  I know the team will finish strong, no question in my mind.  Will the results of their hard work and efforts satisfy the fans who now think they know sooo much about winning?  My quetion is how will the fans finish?

I hear you and generally agree, but I don't think the responses on BA.com have been too bad. People are openly questioning some aspects of the team (punting, for example), but that's to be expected on a message board. I've seen a few over-the-top postings about assistant coaches, but those are relatively few. All in all, I think the fan base is still solidly behind this coaching staff and this team. Not real sure what you're getting at.

Any time a team has 2 punts block, a failed punt for a safety, and a failed punt for a failed 4th down, all in the same game, you can expect to see fans having some specific thoughts about that. You can also expect National Media to have a few comments, as well. Here's something by ESPN on the Bobcat punts. I don't think the comments were bad at all, to be honest. Most were trying to suggest solutions (different formation, tighter spacing, quicker punts, faster snap). I have no comment on what the answer is, but I sure hope they find one. Maybe they need to use Vick as the punter, and make the defenses respect the pass option.... (just kidding)

As for fan support, bcat2, if you noticed, it has become very quiet here. I think a lot have moved to the basketball forum, which is something that normally happens this time of year..

I have gotten quiet because insanity is the doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I don't want to be institutionalized.

The punt scheme was discussed after the first week of games and it still has not been fixed. We all just were comfortable with Frank getting it fixed or seeing something we didn't see.

Fix the punting, stop give 15 yards on WRs when is 3rd and 3, two easy fixes that should have us at 10-0 instead of 8-2....

Screw-ups in the kicking game are real game-changers because they mean points for the opposition (see yesterday's Florida game), or create field position problems (BG started three drives on our side of the 50 because of the punting problems), or keep our points off the board.  So far, we've had four punts and two FGs blocked this season, and haven't gotten to the opposition's kicker once.  That's helped keep some games closer than they should've been and directly resulted in last week's loss. I couldn't understand why we weren't rushing BG's punter last week -- not a case of not getting to him; we were setting up a return instead of rushing.  The guy averages 50 yds a kick and can easily hit it 70 or 80.  On several occasions we could've had decent field position, but wound up inside our 30.

Yeah, giving up big plays on 3rd downs is getting annoying.  You can go with the bend don't break and we'll give up 20-24 points to anyone and we'll win by outscoring.  To me, that's slow death. I want our defense to attack more, to be able at key points to take control of the game (see lack of that re BG).  Passive is killing.  I can't recall yet when we blitzed and were hurt by doing so.  Let the 'Cats loose a little.

I’m not ready for hoops at all (yet). It’s really just I’m depressed about our situation. 13 players with season ending surgery, the worst punting unit I can ever remember, no pass rush, QB not as effective, offensive line starting to look suspect and other MAC teams looking bigger and more athletic…..tough to handle man. What can I say about these things? Nothing.
All I can do is lend my support. I will be down at Great American Ball Park Wednesday Night for the Alumni Event and watch the game on the big screen. Ken Broo and Thom Brennaman will be in attendance so that will be cool. Broo gives OHIO (calls them America’s Team) updates on his Sunday Morning Show on 700 WLW. Always good to hear him talk up OHIO even when most of his audience probably doesn’t care.
Start with a payback mentality and take it BSU!

Even with 11 guys out we could have won the game if we didn't have the terrible punting. We could have won the Miami game if we were willing to go to overtime. San Diego had an OU moment today when they only had to kick a field goal and they Phillip Rivers threw a pick six when he was trying to throw it away. My point is I still think it was a dumb move against Miami when even pro teams lose trying to do the same thing.

Key to winning for the rest of the season....if we can keep everything else up (especially low turnovers) is pocket protection.  TT reasonably comfortable in the pocket and we roll.

That and a more aggressive approach on defense.

Seems low.  I would have expected more like the 7 LC mentioned earlier (about what Sagarin would predict).

I do think Ohio will win, though.

I was really looking forward to this trip 3 weeks ago.  I am still going to Kent next week, but I am bailing on the trip to Muncie now.  I cannot justify 1/2 day out of the office and a return home at 4:00 AM to watch a Wednesday night game that is likely to end in further frustration.  I thought I'd see 11 games live this year, but it will have to just be 10.  The 12 day stretch deflated me as a fan a little bit.  I hope the team isn't as weak as me.

Looks like we have to deal with BSU intro of new Black Uni's and a new replay board.   Hope they don't get as hyped up as we did when we came out and put it to Marshall last year.    '

I like our chances on this one.  If our D plays as good as they did last week and we can get any kind of passing game beyond a bubble to work then I think we should be able to put up big big numbers.

This is STILL a VERY VERY good Bobcats team. 8-2..  I have to keep reminding myself that we are 8-2 which is darn good.

We have a great opportunity to put up some nice style points over the next 2 weeks.  MAC Championship is out (??) so let's ride a nice wave into post season and next year

Go Bobcats.
