I want to start by saying I love TT. But it seems like he has lost his focus. Between taking sacks in which he should have thrown ball away, running out of bounds for an 8 yard loss and not throwing it away, sometimes visibly upset at sidelines, etc. I have also noticed that he is going down very easy sometimes with a lot of those happening because he runs or trips over another Ohio player.

I thought our QB situation was settled through next year and then Vick would simply step in as a junior. After seeing TT benched late I think its very obvious something is up big time.

What's most disturbing is TT seems to have lost that competitive fire! I hope this all gets worked out because next year could be solid.

Thoughts?

Arckley's post game interview on the situation is telling.

Ridiculous to even discuss.  Tyler is an absolute gem to have as a mid-major Quarterback and way down the list of reasons for our descent to mediocrity.  He not only is our starter next year but one of the best mid-major QBs in the nation going in.

Tettleton does not look happy with the play calling.  Just my hunch.  It drive me crazy as well.  But, what do I know?

Sending in Vick at that point in the 4th quarter was just bizarre.  We then run 3 predictable plays.  Punt.  Game over.

Uhg.

Somebody stole this program's mojo.

Big time.

Solich said Tettleton suffered an injury earlier in the game that he thought was bothering Tyler, but Tyler refused to comment on why he wasn't in the game for that series, referring the question to Solich.

Of course it was a small sample size, but Vick looked pretty bad in the few plays he had.

I realize Tettleton has not looked like his usual self the last few games, but I don't think there's any chance of a QB competition next year.

TT could be playing better football and he needs to be held accountable so that he cam improve and reach his full potential. I love having him, now the coaches must fully develop him. If he does not comply, then they should make a change.

I wonder how other Ohio players would be judged if they

(1) Frequently made mental errors, some that cost us games/points

(2) Were openly upset about play calling WHILE THEY'RE ON THE FIELD. Sometimes throwing little temper tantrums.

(3) Made sarcastic/insinuating remarks when asked by the media about decisions made during the game BY THE HEAD COACH.

This is about as useful as having a discussion about whether DJ Cooper should be the starting PG this year because of some poor shot selections last year.  I'm confident Vick will be fine in two years, but there is no reason outside of injury that Tyler should be on the bench.  This is just crazy talk.

I know this is going to sound like an oxymoronic statement, so stick with me.....

I cant help but feel as if Vick is the best choice to start right now but TT is our guy, no doubt about it, next year.....

TT looks like that ace baseball pitcher with that dreaded "dead arm" diagnosis like Johnny Cueto had for the Reds this year.....TT just doesnt have his stuff right now.....yank him, sit him, skip a start or two. Rest his brain along with his body.

Come back next year....or maybe in the Dollar General/Autozone/Kmart/Kwik-E-Mart Bowl bid that we get on some Tuesday afternoon in Minot ND.........

I'm sticking with TT.  He's had a rough year with his own injury and also the Oline's kind of surprising struggles with sacks the last few games.  He had a tough end of the game at Miami.  But I think TT is money.

PTgrad, you couldn't be more spot on.  Vick is healthy and out to prove something.  At this point TT looks like he could careless about winning.  Whether it be injury related or whatever, throwing mini-tantrums a la Jay Cutler has me ripe and quite frankly pissed off.  Stop acting like a diva out there; the guy had one great year, followed up by in my opinion a year to forgot (other than the Penn State game).

Put Vick in against Kent and see what the kid can do against solid MAC competition.  This might not be the best example, but I'm throwing it out there anyways.  Growing up in Mass. I have been a Patriots fan since I can remember.  They have had sustained success for the last 10+ years.  If Tom Brady (who took us to the promise land and won 3 times) started openly whining about play calling and was throwing the ball as hard and accurate as a Tim Wakefield knuckleball, Ryan Mallet would be starting in a heartbeat.  What you did last year, doesn't matter.  You set some school records?  Doesn't matter.  The only thing that matters is what can you bring to the table on this Saturday (or Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday).  Forgot last year, the only thing that matters is next game.

Wrong. The play calling has been conservative and required him to throw repeated bubble screens, all while the pocket broke down before he could take a three step drop. He was pissed about the play calling because he is a competitor, not a baby. All he wanted to do was throw the ball downfield, which is exactly what needed to happen if the team was going to win. He lost all his receivers at one time or another this season, too. Tettleton is not Colt McCoy and Vick is not Andrew Luck. This is a ridiculous thread.

Am I watching different Bobcat games or going insane or something?  I can't believe the comments I am reading!  Lost focus?  Doesnt have his stuff?  A YEAR TO FORGET?!

16 touchdowns to 2 interceptions, 4 rushing TDs and a receiving TD to boot.  2,600 all-purpose yards...despite missing 1+ games and battling injury at times.  With all do respect to Cleve Bryant, this guy is the best Quarterback we have ever had.

I know, not everything shows up in the stat sheet, but again I don't see it.  He had 2 bad sacks (when the line collpased) causing poor clock management and cost us some points...OK, but otherwise he is as mentally focused and prepared for the game as anybody.  Don't let 2 plays overshadow a tremendous player.  How many plays have completely broken down only for him to step up and make a big time play?  Or are we throwing those out the window?

Temper tantrums and sarcastic remarks?  Jay Cutler?  Hardly...To call his body language a temper tantrum is a huge stretch...And he deferred a question about a coaching decision to the coach.  Do you people honestly think you wouldn't be the least bit upset if you got pulled for a series in that situation, with the game still winnable and a track record to this point that TT has?  Personally I commend him for not making as big of a deal about it as he could have.  To me, it would be like the Packers pulling Aaron Rodgers in a still-winnable game for a series.  Yeah, I think he has earned that level of commitment at this point.  And upset with the play calling?  Gee, that sounds like every poster on this board...so I think we have TT's support there.

Let's also not forget that by all accounts Tyler is a fantastic guy and very team-oriented.  If people have noticed otherwise, I am completely in the dark.  I know we are a depressed fan base...but show this guy some grace and commitment, he's earned it.

100 % behind TT.  The guy wants to win badly, will always support him.  Vick is good, can't wait to see him start, but it will be when TT graduates.  I love his fire and the faith he has in his teammates!

"The Sack" is going to define his season this year, if not his career.

Maybe not for the avid OU Football fan, but when you're trying to build a program and a fan-base - showing your QB giving away the game in one of the poorest displays of clock management and in-game IQ is going to lead to questions like this.

edit: Especially when the team collapses in the following weeks.

The question is whose team will this be next year? If it's Solich's team, T^2 needs to play the game Solich's way:  conservative, based on execution, minimal improvisation. If T^2 wants it to be his team, he needs to tell the coaches, "If you want me to be your QB, I'm going to play the game my way," and either the coaches let him or they start someone else. I feel like this year--especially the second half of the season--that's been the tension on the offensive side of the ball: we're hesitant, because we don't know if we're supposed to just execute execute execute, or if we're supposed to ball.

Defense is an entirely different beast, and I just REALLY hope Trae Clark comes back to us next year eligible, and is as much of a beast as he looked like he could be, because I don't know what we're going to do on the interior line.

Very good points. In less than two seasons TT is the all-time Ohio QB.  He is dynamic.  He has come a long way from Norman, OK.  He has done an outstanding job of directing the Solich/Albin/Gdowski offense.  He has had fantastic success with coach Albin's plays.  What none of us see is what Mr. Vick is doing to earn his oportunities.  There was that one game that went well.  Many hate it when Beau gives up snaps to Bryan or now Daz. I think the coaches know what they are doing and if they think it is the right time to give DV a series I am OK with it.

I agree that TT has to be considered the starter.

But all positions should be open for competition from all members of the team.  If the best players are all true freshmen, then they should start.  And, this is so regardless of the prior year's record.

Why would we start less than our best players?

Something is definately not right on the inside.  In today's Athens Messenger, Arkley ask Tettleton if he "could offer up an explanation for the late fade"...."Honestly, I have no idea.  I don't know,"  "Ask coach Solich or coach Albin, because I have no idea".....That's from what should be the leadership, and IMO, shows that he's taking NO accountability for the struggles.  This is a big negative.

Not sure what you/others want. TT was 22-30, for over 230. He was TT. His offense put up almost 500 yards and had over 32 minutes time of posession.  That the D allowed 52 pts, 588 yards in 27:35 is not on TT.  I don't expect him to take blame nor would I want him pointing fingers at others.  No one seems able to give any credit to BGU or BSU for being very good and at this time just better than Ohio's injury depleted team.  No one needs to fall on swords.  No one needs to take the blame.  What needs to happen is we need to let the coaches/players focus on Kent.  The offense will represent.  I will be lighting a candle/praying for the defense.
