The two ESPN guys this week both have us in the Pizza Bowl. One things we play Illinois, and the other Iowa.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections

Scout.com has us in the GoDaddy.com Bowl vs. La-Lafeyette.

We would kick the Illini 's arse....again.

Two things that are a total waste of time:

1. Bowl projections in September.
2. NCAA "bracketology" in November

I agree but for me, I use it as sort of a guide as to which teams are doing well in the minor conferences such as the Sun Belt or Conf. USA that I don't follow on a daily basis. It's also fun if you're having a great season as you watch the week by week progression of your team rising in the bowl projections and what could be out there for us should we continue winning.

I really want us to get out of the three contracted bowls for the MAC this year and get in as an at-large for a higher profile bowl. A higher profile opponent with a higher bowl payout would be really nice this year.

With all that said: BEAT MARSHALL!

I'm bewildered by the fact that, unless I missed something going through the list (twice), the other MAC teams in bowl games on Matt's chart are Northern Illinois, Toledo and ... Central Michigan. Does this seem odd to anyone else?

UofL will be ranked above Ohio as Big East champ, and OU will not sniff top 16. You won't crack top 25 til you are 7-0 or 8-0, and would finish maybe #18 if you go undefeated, which is a big IF.

This weekend is what MU and OU's entire seasons hinge on. If MU wins i could see us going 10-2 or so and seeing the top 25 again. If we lose, we go 8-4 probably. For you, you may still go 11-1 if you win, but even then may not be ranked until the last game or the conference championship.

OU actually fell in the polls this weekend from what i have been reading.

Do you have to TRY to be this ignorant? REALLY? You think Marshall, who has a relatively weak schedule, and comes from a very weak C-USA can go 10-2 and be ranked top 25? Nice dream. That being said, you would have to win ALL of the rest of your games to make this happen. Looking at y'alls schedule, I just don't see this happening.

You do have to show us some respect, though. Starting the season 3-0 is pretty impressive!

After Week 5, OCF, channeling The Optimist, says Rose Bowl against Michigan.  Brady Hoke's worst nightmare, getting beat by two "Ohios" in one season.

The MAC could be sending a team to the new Heart of Dallas Bowl... Jan. 1st in the old Cotton Bowl against a Big 12 team.  The B1G has the tie-in, but will have fewer bowl eligible teams this year... so the MAC is the alternative tie-in

With our luck, it will be someone outside of the MAC Top 3 and someone like Kent St. will go to the Cotton Bowl while we play the Sun Belt.

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I'll ask again.  If Ohio is the top team in the conference can they get invited to a better bowl game?  Or are they obligated to accept this year's tie-in game, letting a lower conference eligible team go to a better bowl game?

I think technically, a BCS bowl game is the only contractual reason that a top MAC team can opt out of one of the three tie-in bowls (Go-Daddy, Pizza Pizza, Famous Potato).  It's not like we could tell Go-Daddy bowl "No..we got a better offer from Dallas" if they want us.  However, there has been room to negotiate in the past.  The Bowl Tie-Ins get to choose which team they want.  This year, Pizza Pizza gets first pick, then Go-Daddy and finally Idaho.  There is no obligation that Pizza Pizza has to take the winner of the MAC.  They can choose whoever they want.  Same with the other bowls.  There might be some wiggle room for the MAC to negotiate the tie-in bowls in choosing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best MAC teams in order to place #1 team in higher payout bowl.

The MAC could pull some strings, especially if they could promise a 9+ win Toledo team to Detroit and an 8+ win NIU to Mobile.

This may have been answered already but does anyone know which bowl gets which team this year.

I've often thought the Go Daddy and Pizza Pizza alternate each year on taking the Overall MAC Champion.

Does anyone know for sure?

Almost. They alternate first pick. Doesn't have to be the champion, so even though Pizza picks first this year, they could decide to take Toledo if they lost the championship game, as they'd likely draw better to Detroit.

Wow, if this season ends how many of us hope...well, let's just say that would be a MAJOR let-down. Imagine going 13-0 and our fate is a middling Sun Belt school. Ughhh...

But, hey...I know, I know...one game at a time!!

Well, "middling" means "average"'; Considering that some might suggest the relative "upstart" Sun Belt is at least on par with the MAC, that's what MAC teams have to look forward to. The biggest issue is brand identity. Sadly, the mostly unaware casual observer would be more impressed if we played and defeated [fill in school name of dreg from Big This-or-That, SEC or Pac 12 that will not even be in a bowl because it genuinely is awful] ... than if we played and defeated any of a handful of Sun Belt teams that would hand those dregs their head.

The least-appealing prospect I can think of come "bowl season" is a game somewhere -- anywhere -- where, when fans cheer, you can see their breath, and when they clap it is muted by their gloves. (And it's only slightly more appealing when the only thing preventing that scenario is that the game is being played inside a building.)

As far as BCS goes, it now looks more likely we'd pass up the Big 10 champ not the Big East champ.

As always, undefeated is the biggest obstacle.  Penn State is really helping us more than anyone ever dreamed after Virginia... The computer points we get if they beat OSU will be massive.

Not that it matters, but say we and Penn State both win this weekend, does Penn State jump in front of us in the AP Poll?

Regardless of our SOS, there is no WAY AP Voters put 2-loss Penn State ahead of 8-0 Ohio, especially since one of those two losses is to Ohio.

But, of course now that I've said that, I'll probably be biting my tongue next week.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did.  Oregon jumped Boise the year that BSU went undefeated and beat them in the opener.
