JSF...I agree, they are NOW.  But not too long ago we were about the same.  It is amazing what some really good coaches and a committment from the top can do.

They, like Marshall and Temple, think they are too good for the conference on a long term basis.

They are.

"They" singular (UC)? Or "they" plural (UC, Marshall, Temple)?

They singular. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

They, however, is plural, despite common recent misuse.

However, you silly swabbie, when referring to a team the common practice is to refer to the aggregate as "they" so go back to oil tending.

Read the context of my statement, you infantry grunt, and you'll see that there was confusion about whether "they" was  being used to refer to one team or two, if JSF had used the grammatically correct "its" to refer to a single team the meaning would have been clear to even one whose brains were slightly scrambled in the foxholes.  (For you folks that don't know these are friendly insults.)

  "they was  being used"

Is that Icelandic hillbilly grammar (of course, using my skillfull use of editing that would not have been found about some sooty boat foundering off the coast of Topeka, or where it may have been beached).

Plus, we used sandbags and not foxholes.

As one of the mis-users of the term "they", I think we can all agree that UC is the only one of the three "theys" that really are ahead of us now!  Thanks for the grammar lesson...I think.

Yes, Mr. Lava Cake Man, it is good English grammar.  I actually checked it out with the last person to teach the grammar class in the OU English Department (my wife) before I posted it.  I don't recall the technical term but "they" in this context is not being used as a standard "they" but as a representation of the concept of "they" so it is in this one instance singular.  It was not singular as used by JSF.  I'm sure that this is a real tough concept for a infantry guy.
