According to Bleacher Report & through CBS Sports projections, The Military Bowl is where we'll finish the season on a high note.

It is going to be really close.  Kent State qualifies as the best team that NIU defeated.  They should get a hefty computer boost from that.  It may be enough to jump Michigan and Boise State who were not that far ahead of them in points in the Standings.  They should jump Texas and Kent State who lost and were not nearly as far ahead of them as UCLA.  I think under normal circumstances they would pass UCLA.  But it would only take a handful of Oklahoma voters and voters who think NIU would be uncompetitive in the BCS to be a spot or two more kind to UCLA than they otherwise would be.

You're right.  I think there are a lot of voters who have a pro-AQ bias.  And some of the more objective ones might look at the loss to Iowa -- which had a losing record -- and the win over Kansas -- the AQ version of "Little Sisters of the Poor" -- and not think NIU is worthy.

SJS fan here looking forward to a matchup with the Bobcats on December 27th. It should be a great game. I have not yet seen your team play, so I'm looking forward to the matchup in DC.

I wouldn't count on it yet...a lot probably depends on whether NIU secures the BCS berth. Just because Bleacher Report is saying that's where we are going doesn't mean much. I could see us in DC, St. Pete, or even at the Liberty or Independence Bowls. We'll see...

Whoever is paired with San Jose State likely will find the Spartans a tough and hungry opponent.

I watched parts of a couple of their games (10 or 10:30 kickoffs here in the East had me tuning out after half-time).

The Spartans are on the rise in their third year under Mike MacIntyre (previously at Duke where he was named FBS Asst Coach of Year).  His first year at SJS was a dismal 1-12. Then improvement: 5-7.  Then this year's breakout at 10-2.

The only losses: 20-17 at Stanford and 49-27 to 10-2  Utah State.

The wins include a 4-pt win at 9-3 San Diego State, a shutout at Navy, a 6-pt win over BYU and a 9-pt win over La Tech.

SJS defense has been tough, yielding an average of 21.5.

One common opponent with Ohio.  New Mexico State.  Spartans prevailed 47-7 at NMS.

This was the Spartans' first winning season since 9-4 in 2006 - in which they beat New Mexico in the New Mexico Bowl.

It would give us another shot at a ranked team this season.  SJS is #24 in both polls this week.

With that being the case, and Northern Illinois supposedly in the Orange Bowl, you would think that puts some combination of BG, Toledo and Kent State in the GoDaddy, Pizza and Potato bowls, confirming that Ohio would go to the Military Bowl.

If NIU is going to Orange and Ball State is going Beef O"Brady's, I predict us to Military, BGSU to Tater, Toledo to Pizza and Kent to GoDaddy.

It's being reported that only 2 bowl-eligible teams will stay home, CMU and La Tech (who apparently refused a bid).

EDIT: Now being reported MTSU didn't make it so who knows?

I saw a Tweet that said the Sun Belt was going to have coaches teleconference to vote on whether to send Middle Tennessee or Western Kentucky to the Pizza Pizza Bowl. I assume the other would be left out, but then again, who knows the validity of this.

This is logical.  Now that NIU is in the Orange I'd say Kent State in the GoDaddy is a virtual certainty.  Ball to the Beef O' Whatever Bowl is highly probable.  The other possibility is I'd have to wonder if the Pizaa Bowl takes BGSU Toledo has been there so often and BGSU is almost as close to Detroit which would leave Toledo going West to the Potato.

If it comes down to that, MTSU will likely stay home.  They're leaving for CUSA so I doubt the schools staying in the league will want them as a rep.  Sort of like when Richmond left the Colonial for the A10 in b-ball a few years ago.  As I recall, they were barred from the conference's championship tourney, so they couldn't rep the conference in the NCAA tourney.

After further thought, what really makes sense is that if I am the Potato Bowl, I am lobbying the MAC to get Kent.  Why, because they already know that Utah State will be there again and Utah State will finish the season ranked in the Top 25.  Further, there is a real chance that Kent will finish in the Top 25, at least in some of the Polls.  Therefore, the Potato Bowl has the potential to have two Top 25 teams playing each other this year.

La Tech AD says he didn't turn down bid. Independence Bowl chose Ohio instead.

No offense to the good people in Shreveport, but I would rather go to D.C.
