I used to like Herbstreit despite the fact he went the THE Ohio $tate.  Wow, what a hater.  Louisville and Wisconsin don't belong either.  It's been that way.  The BCS created a championship at the expense of the other bowls.  Deal with it and Go Huskies!

Sure.. but the president of ESPN attended OHIO

No he didn't.

History shows the non-automatic qualifiers are 5 -1 . Most of these teams play the BCS teams on their field when they do schedule them during the season. Go NIU.....represent!

Herbie sold out !

Four "non-AQ" teams have appeared in the six following BCS games:

  1. Somebody with video editing skills, please put together a montage of Herbie, Palmer and the other guy talking about how NIU should not be there and overlay the audio with babies crying.
  2. Post to YouTube.
  3. Watch the view count rise beyond the "Call Me Maybe" parodies.

I remember hearing a lot of the same things they said tonight when Boise was picked to play Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

And Hawaii was obviously going to lose that game.  They had Colt Brennan and no defense.

At this rate, if the Huskies manage to keep it reasonably close the talking heads will be befuddled. These guys are all the same, always hitching their wagon to the cool teams. This is all too familair for me, a few years ago when I was coaching high school sports for a small team the opposing coaches were always complimenatry when we lost a close one. However, the few times we pulled the upset, they often went ballistic, one time not allowing their AD to let the officials in their locker room to shower.

I would leave to see some of these talking heads coach in the MAC where you always play the big boys at their place and fight tooth and nail to get the recruits they don't want. With the pride cometh the fall, and I hope the Seminoles are listening and believing everything the talking heads are spewing.

Hey, who cares what a few talking heads say?  The Huskies more than earned their way into the BCS elite party...and the system actually worked--they're in!

The Huskies will bring it.  I hope the guys play with a chip on their shoulder and are squared away on their coaching situation so that's not an issue.

Make no mistake, Northern can beat Florida State.

I like Herby, but he didn't really sound intelligent when talking about NIU.  All he talked about was the fact that they lost to Iowa... never mind the fact that they haven't lost since.  Never mind that FSU has lost to teams "beneath them."

It's sad when Mark May is the guy who makes the most sense on the show by saying they deserve it because the rules say they do.  I also like when he held up Ohio State's bowl shirt... going to jump over to bucknuts to see if they saw that one.

Herbie blows.

NIU in the BCS is fine.  Oklahoma should be in too.  At the expense of Wisconsin or Louisville.

Herbie basically showed his a$$ in that interview.

He really needs to be taken down a notch.....I imagine he didn't make any friends in Iowa City either.

He lost a lot of friends -- and made some enemies -- here over his Tattoogate views.  That's why he's living in Nashville.

I think he lost a lot of fans last night with the way he handled this. One point interesting point he made is how he said this team wasn't even talked about until the last few weeks. There's a neat gadget here that let's you see how the coaches voted and the history of the rankings throughout the year. NIU really did come out of nowhere from a poll perspective....

Both.  Not that it matters.

He actually had a few valid points.  Oklahoma probably does belong in the BCS.  So does Georgia.  But, where he went way wrong is that NIU belongs too.

He should be pissed that Wisconsin and Louisville, and hell, even FSU made the BCS.  There were more deserving teams.  He just doesn't get that NIU is one of them . . .

Didn't someone say Ohio would never make the BCS if we ran the table?  Turns out it is even possible with 1 loss.

It's really sad at all the hate for N. Illinois making a BCS game.

Everyone keeps using the excuse that they lost to a terrible Iowa team and almost lost to a bad Kansas team. Yet they conveniently ignore, the Iowa game was their FIRST game and both Iowa and Kansas put up some good fights against some good teams. They totally discount the wins against any MAC opponent, even the likes of Toledo, who beat then #21 Cincy or Kent who beat then #15 Rutgers or who were BOTH ranked themselves at one point(Kent still is).

It's funny how I never saw near the whining when a mediocre 8-4 UConn team went to a BCS games a couple years ago.

Unfortunately, that hate will most likely NOT go away even if NIU wins because these delusional people will use the excuse that there was no motivation to win or whatever is convenient. Look at Boise St. They have spent a decade trying to become one of the big boys and still are viewed as an outsider.

It's all about keeping it(ie. the money) in house, amongst the big boys, and no amount of justification will change people's view. This is why we don't have a legit playoff(not the 4 team in-house one they agreed to) in major college football. That would mean possibly having more than one "token" outsider involved every year.

It really is disgusting all the negative comments about NIU. Most of it is from the BCS schools fans that feel the MAC is not worthy. ESPN crew aren't helping with all of their bull$hit commentary.

I hope the tables turn and all the negativity excites people to root for the underdog.

Bring home the trophy Huskies!

Herbie kept asking, "who decided only 2 teams from a conference could make the BCS?" - the true answer is the commissioners from the BCS Conferences - ala Big 10, Big 12, PAC - all of whom were afraid that a year like this (ALA, GA and FLA all legit BCS teams) would happen and thus siphon off a possible extra setting for themselves.  They also had to protect "they go anyway circumstances" such as Louisville and Fla. St. to accommodate their money and ego grab.  They extended the token branch to the non-BCS conferences to cover their power play.

Well know they and Herbie can eat it.  They all have been feasting on the system since it all began.  So now they can all sit down and shut-up.  If the BCS commissioners had previously had the guts to tell each other, "your conference winner goes, BUT they have to finish in the top 16" then they could gripe now, but they only looked to protect themselves.  I love it when hypocrites and those trying to rig the system get theirs!  Go Huskies!

Right on, bro.  These ESPN commentators are BCS lackies of the worst sort.  Mays seemed to be the only one that got it last night.  And, at least Holtz said as a MAC alumnus he was happy that a MAC team made it.  He must have been personally upset that it wasn't his alma mater, Kent, but he sucked it up in the name of conference unity.   This rule is there for only one reason, which I heard a commentator on XM Radio's College Sports channel say this afternoon, to prevent Congressional Committees from investigating the BCS for restraint of trade and other monopolistic practices.  So, it's the height of hypocrisy to criticize the system when the BCS Cartel finally has to deal with the results of those rules.  Perhaps, hypocrisy is the wrong word because these idiot commentators actually were not party to setting up the BCS rules; however, you'd think they'd have a clue about what was actually going on.

On question that occurred to me last night: If Ohio had run the table and was in the Orange Bowl would Kirkem To the Curbstreet have gone into the same tirade.  I'm not sure.  I'm curious what others think.  In that case Ohio would have been "part of the conversation" for a number of weeks as our stock rose each week.  We had beaten PSU in the first week rather than losing to an Iowa State.  Not, sure, though that that would have made much of a difference to Kirkem and his ilk.

Well, that's enough of a rant for now . . .  but this "NIU hate" is enough to drive me crazy.  It really makes my blood boil.
