This would be a great year for us to have the bricks game on Black Friday in Cowtown, still have 6 home games, and we could be looking at a BCS bid or MAC East Title on the line.

I actually really like that idea! Would still have 6 home games and go on short road trip to Columbus. I have no doubts that Ohio would draw much better than BG did this past season at Crew Stadium.

A Columbus game would be a novelty, but I'd be shocked if it drew more than about 5-7,000 people. Better off playing the game in Athens and at least getting 13-15,000. A Columbus game, IMO, would be an embarrassment and disappointment. The net gain (some curious alumni in Columbus, many of which haven't attended a game in decades) would be far smaller than the net loss (local, southeast Ohio fans). Don't do it!!

If it's a Saturday game in Crew when O$U is outta town we could maybe fill Crew Stadium.  Alumni who have high school age kids will be at their kids' football games on Friday nights.  Problem with Crew is that it seats only 20,000.  We can get more than that in Peden, even if it's a Nov MACtion game.

I'm not sure bg was satisfied with the turnout they had for the "black friday bash" this year. I'm sure they had hoped for a much larger crowd then showed up whith all the grads that live in columbus. Much better crowd then they would have had on campus but still small.

Number of times we have played each West team from 07-13 -

4- EMU
3- CMU, Ball State
2- Toledo
1- NIU, WMU

This would piss me off to no end if I was any other team.  There is only 8 games in the season, this makes a massive difference.  We've been very very fortunate and continue to be.  It's just not fair.  I understand the strategy to maximize bowl bids I suppose, but it's wrong.  They need to come up with a rotation schedule.

So I'm guessing by reading through this thread that there isn't any actual rotation or system to pick opponents from the West?   Anybody with firm insight on this?    Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, would have thought there was some formula for rotating schedule similar to the NFL, but then I remembered it is the MAC.

the problem with evenly rotating the West teams is the inclusion of the 13th member, it throws off the symmetry. As a result, some East teams have to play 3 West teams/yr. Check out Buffalo's crossover-

2012- NIU, WMU, Toledo
2011- NIU, BSU, EMU
2010- NIU, BSU, EMU
2009- WMU, CMU

Not to take pity on the Bulls but thats ruff. 2012 was especially brutal, on top of those 3 from the West they didn't get to play Akron so their East schedule was Kent, BGSU, OU, Fiami and UMass. Add in an OOC of SEC,FCS, BEx2 and 4-8 is almost impressive.

I would love to see us stay at 12 teams with 8 conf games. That would give everyone 3 cross over games and you would go no more than 1 year without playing a West team.

Maybe the MAC is greasing the skids to get the best MAC teams ranked, by them having fewer losses due to playing fewer tough conference games.  NIU had games against the 3 worst East teams this year, and it wasn't much different last year.

I'm not really sure this has to do with bowl bids. It hasn't been that long ago that CMU and Ball State were at the top of the MAC. Toledo is always going to be low in our rotation, because BG and Toledo have an agreement to play each other every year to continue their rivalry game, even though they are in different divisions. Could NIU be on the lower end because of further travel costs?

I agree there should be a regular rotation to play each team equally, with the exception of Toledo to preserve their rivalry.

Man, today really helped.

It's good to see the volume of posts here today...was dead here for about 3 weeks,  And it's good to see the passion, the emotion (someone get the Doc 2-sixpacks and a couple  bourbon, please    ).

And, starting tomorrow, it is time to get fired up for some Louisville!
