Auburn fires Chizik for winning 63% of his games and 3 consecutive bowl games, including the BCS national championship.  This season he was terrible, but on the whole... really?  Who are you going to hire at Auburn that is going to beat that?

Who will be smart enough to hire Darrell Hazell?

Purdue?  Kentucky?  Boston College?

Purdue would be smart to go with Hazell or Cliff Kingsbury from Texas A & M.

Or Dave Doeren from NIU.

It was announced about a week ago that Auburn is under NCAA investigation . . . possible sanctions, penalties, etc., in the works.  I suspect that the firing had more to do with that than the current season w/l record.  I wouldn't be surprised if Chizik is being fingered in the investigation and Auburn is being pro-active rather than reactive the way a certain school "up north" of Athens was a few years ago.  Just a guess.

63% of his games is a very misleading stat. Take out his one season with Cam Newton and he's under 30%.

I think the conference will loose the following coaches: Kent, NIU, EMU, & WMU. 2 will receive bigger pay checks, and 2 smaller.

If the Auburn sanctions are tied to the money laundering scheme that was being run too pay players then Auburn could be facing Penn State like sanctions.  I remember people asking a couple of years ago why the FBI was investigating Newton. They were not, he just happened too part of wire taped conversations. His dad was just trying to shake down the wrong guy at the wrong time. Also for those who don't think Urban Meyer has cheated answer this. Who was the head coach at Florida when Newton came there? Are we supposed to believe other schools were being shaken down for money for him to play but Florida wasn't? A&M will be facing more sanctions in a few years also, unless of course Meyer suddenly needs to spend more time with his family again.

Maybe that's why Cam left Florida, he wanted a better deal;-)

But seriously if you think that no school has players receiving improper benefits or no show summer jobs, you are kidding yourself.

I lived in Montgomery, Alabama for 9 years. Regardless of possible NCAA sanctions or past National Championships, the fact of life is that if you go 0-8 in the SEC and get blown out by Alabama two years in a row then you are out of a job.

Looks like you can add South Florida to the list of lookers.  Skip Holtz is apparently done there.

What a way to start your coaching career, your first game is coaching a Non-AQ team in the Orange Bowl!  Where do you go from there?

Hopefully further than Jeff Quinn went after coaching Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl.

Gene Chizik was a combined 8-27 at both Auburn and Iowa State without the help of not Cam Newton...but former OC Gus Mahlzahn, who is now the head coach at Arkansas State.

Got a job opening in the SEC? Look no further than him. Especially if they win a bowl game.

Given the Wisconsin news and the Orange Bowl bid, Dave Doeren may be wishing he waited.
