We've had several players charged with assault over the years, and not all end up off the team. The most memorable case was Steve Hookfin, who was
acquitted at trial and went on to become the school's all-time leading rusher at the time. He's now a respected high school head football coach. Another case that drew a lot of attention was that of Paul Johnson. He was convicted of assault at The Pub, sentenced to 10 days of jail and originally wasn't suspended for a game. He eventually was suspended and was finishing out his eligibility the next season
when he was injured. Johnson is now offensive line coach at the University of Charleston. Still another was when running backs
Brad Young and Chris Hutchinson got into some trouble. Young returned to play, but Hutchinson did not.
Anyway, the point is, being charged of assault doesn't always (sometimes, not always) make you the idiot you appear to be in the initial reports and sometimes one can still go on lead a productive life. We'll have to see once the case goes through the system.
