There are some very telling statments in that article these three among them:

1. The reins for the multipurpose center were recently passed from Athletics to Student Affairs.

2. “They designed (Ping) in such a way to keep Athletics out of the building,” he said. “There was such tension between Recreation and Athletics that the people that designed the Ping Center made sure Athletics couldn’t be in there.”

3.  Ohio Athletics declined to comment on any matter involving the multipurpose center.

I saw that too and immediately thought "What the hell?" Why would rec even need the building? Isnt that what Ping is for? This is needed if we want to be competitive in Football, Baseball and Track

Ugh, Ping Center is such a disaster. Beautiful facility, but they woefully underestimated its usage. I've heard so many anecdotes about the planning of that building, none of them good.

By all means this is an Athletics building.  It will just be operated by the recreation office.  I think this a good thing for a few reasons:

- No added expenses for athletics.
- Keeps the haters on campus quiet.
- Athletics will have plenty of time to utilize the facility.

It is kind of interesting (to put it mildly) that there is tension like this between the athletic department and campus rec. It would make sense to me if Boeh was still the AD but I feel like Schauss has been a great bridge builder/rebuilder in his time here and would have gone out of his way to work that out. 

From an outsider's perspective it seems like things are more in lock-step at other universities between their equivalent of these two parties.  

I notice that a lot of the club sport teams at other schools are allowed to use the university's athletic logo in competition and that did not seem to be the case when I was a student (although that may have since changed as I have seen the arched OHIO/attack cat on the hockey team's uniforms).

If that's true, it's extremely disappointing, and would probably have affected my donation level. I hope it is not as bad as it sounds.

Heard yesterday that construction of the indoor practice pavillion will start Wednesday May 8 and the estimated completion date appears to be December 31.

They have been remodeling Old Baker center into the new Scripps building for over a year now, and they still haven't started on the interior other than gutting it out...

The student side is already pretty large, foot-print wise, and not very steep. I feel like any expansion (which I wouldn't predict happening any time soon!) wouldn't entail moving "out" so much as rebuilding it more vertically, or with a second level.

If a second level is going to be built it makes sense to just tear the first level down and rebuild the whole side. The pitch of he stands could be improved to match the corner seats and without that needless causeway in front of the first row behind the benchbacks. All the plumbing and electrical infrastructure is there along that side to be reconfigured. A new locker room that matches the design of the Carin Center could be built adjacent to the new student stands to fill Peden in more. Improve the acoustics to make the stadium louder.

The student side is identical to the Tower side - at least as far as steepness and pitch of the stands. 100% identical.

The one difference is the student side has all the infrastructure (restrooms, concessions, storage, etc.) on the end farthest from the field. The same infrastructure is on the end closest to the field on the Tower side. Never been sure why that is - but it makes the student side seem bigger and less cramped, IMO.

First expansion is 6-8,000 seats by integrating the curves (half circle) into the two main grandstands.  Bring those sections closer to complete the bowl.  Place could get awfully loud with 30k in it then.

The growth has mainly been concentrated in a fuller student section so I would increase it with the idea of getting over 10,000 students for big games. A huge student section would entice more students to Peden Stadium.
